The way you draw hair is so GORGEOUS!! It is okay to ask how you do it??

omg thank you :'D !! and ofc! here's how i like do it

whenever i draw hair i like to think about volume first and shape design second. usually when i make a sketch this is how i go about doing it:

The Way You Draw Hair Is So GORGEOUS!! It Is Okay To Ask How You Do It??

^ i basically lay down quick shapes of what i want before going in with cleaner lines

first i choose a direction that the hair is supposed to swoop towards, then draw overlapping and twisting chunks/strands of hair (with varied size, thickness etc to make it look less stiff)

The Way You Draw Hair Is So GORGEOUS!! It Is Okay To Ask How You Do It??

this applies to other types of hair as well :)

The Way You Draw Hair Is So GORGEOUS!! It Is Okay To Ask How You Do It??

i guess to put it more plainly - i like to layer hair a little bit to make it look more visually interesting... but i do tend to go overboard sometimes, so i erase or start over a lot ^__^"

here's a recording i managed to take while sketching, hopefully it clears up what i've written so far LMAO

Hi!! I absolutely love your colors and wanted to ask how you color skin tone :0!! I love how you shade it sm and would love to know how you do it!!! ❤️

HIII i thought i'd make this little tutorial to illustrate my thought process c:

we're starting off with grayscale because i place form sculpting and values above colors...

Hi!! I Absolutely Love Your Colors And Wanted To Ask How You Color Skin Tone :0!! I Love How You Shade
Hi!! I Absolutely Love Your Colors And Wanted To Ask How You Color Skin Tone :0!! I Love How You Shade

that's basically it! though, when dealing with different skin tones (both realistic and fantasy-based) i usually make the first layer of shadows a little more colourful to make the transition a bit more visually interesting/appealing

here's some more examples:

Hi!! I Absolutely Love Your Colors And Wanted To Ask How You Color Skin Tone :0!! I Love How You Shade

hope this was clear! i mentioned some tips in a post here too :]

I have to draw a lot of gold and metal for my work, but wasn't happy with any of the metal tutorials i could find around. I prefer really specific instruction, so after some research i put together what i think works as a generalist's guide/tutorial. Not perfectly accurate, but i hope it's helpful!

Hi! I've always seen you around the sonic community and I decided to see your other art and I am in love! especially with Faust! He's living in my mind rent free!

Hope you don't mind me asking, what's the secret behind how you draw paws? they look so meaty (at least Starline and Faust's) and I love it!

Hello!! Thanks to Twitter's 'For You' page I've been coming across A LOT of sonic stuff, it's quite tragic and I'm sorry /j

I'm very glad you are liking with little horrible bat man! <3 (This is not really /J, he is kind of a mix of the worst kind of people except covered in loser and gay energy) Hope you are ready to see more~ Now! Today has been an exceptionally good day so let me use my energy to whip you some simple tutorials!

There's two main ways I draw paws! I think I've given Starline both of these kinds, meanwhile Faust almost exclusively is drawn with the second method.

First, the more soft, cute type!

Hi! I've Always Seen You Around The Sonic Community And I Decided To See Your Other Art And I Am In Love!

And then this type when I want it to be sexy or uncanny or scary (or all of the above)

Hi! I've Always Seen You Around The Sonic Community And I Decided To See Your Other Art And I Am In Love!

Those are a bit wonky here and there, but it's a bit late right now and my wife will get mad if i let my soup get cold~ Hope those help!! If they're too small you should be able to 'right click and open the image in a new tab~

Thanks a lot for the message =D <3 Love getting those

Hope This Isn't Too Annoying But You Do Have Any Tips For Drawing Teeth? I L O V E The Way You Draw Them

I've seen some amazing tutorials for teeth which explain much more about how teeth fit in the skill, which is very useful! But this is a very quick explanation of how I do Teeth! I don't often outline teeth too hard, unless I'm doing tusks, since the gums and teeth edges suggest pretty well without em!

Your art is amazing in all aspects! It's very inspiring! My sister and I both adore your Morrowind drawings especially.

However one thing about your art which has left me in awe is how 3 dimensional it is. "It's like you can hold them" as my sister says.

I've been trying to improve this aspect of my drawing but it's very overwhelming. I don't know what to do and what to learn. Any tips or advice in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Like what do I even learn? Anatomy? Perspective? Shape design?

Thank you very much💖

AHHHH this is such a kind thing to say, thank you so much ;; ❤️ i don't know what to say,, but i'll try my best to explain how i go about drawing!!

from my perspective, what really helps develop a sense of structure and three-dimensionality is breaking shapes down to simplified forms, take this maav sketch as an example:

Your Art Is Amazing In All Aspects! It's Very Inspiring! My Sister And I Both Adore Your Morrowind Drawings
Your Art Is Amazing In All Aspects! It's Very Inspiring! My Sister And I Both Adore Your Morrowind Drawings

breaking down objects into cylinder-like and rouded shapes provides a good visualization of volume and how an object moves and rotates in a three dimensional space! so yes, you were right!! structurization and perspective are crucial to learn along with anatomy. here's how i like to do it:

Your Art Is Amazing In All Aspects! It's Very Inspiring! My Sister And I Both Adore Your Morrowind Drawings

making grid-like structure studies like these helps me with shading and rendering later - think of it as some kind of a preview which shows you where exactly will the volumes intersect, curve, bend etc i hope i was able to answer your question and best of luck in your drawing!! much love :) 💖💖

When it comes to textured hair there’s many styles, here some I’ve seen at powwows. Braided locs have to be my favorite style so far 💖

Reminder braids are not a universal hairstyle between tribes! I’m coming from the perspective of Great Plains tribes. I just thought I might share what braided hair means to my community and people. I see people trying to make ocs or redesigns of characters who are native but don’t actually represent us too good. Reminder to always research a tribe before making a character learn their protocols and at least try to learn something new! 🌸💖🍇

E.J Sue’s “Mechaforce” Is One Of The Few “How To Draw” Books I Would Point Newbies Looking

E.J Sue’s “Mechaforce” is one of the few “How to Draw” books I would point newbies looking to get into drawing robots to. It emphasises knowing the basics (Very difficult to draw a robot properly if you can’t use perspective) and fundamental shapes and even arm techniques, and gives a neat insight into how mechanical forms work in art.

These are just a few of the examples from the anatomy section of the book. It’s currently on sale on Amazon and worth checking out, though I will note it is not a “be all end all” resource, thankfully you can fill in your knowledge gaps elsewhere.

I forgot I have to be active here so here’s my Twitter tutorial on how to draw folds I made a while back to help a friend!

A piece of cloth teaching you how to draw cloth folds of different material. Each picture depicts two arms in the same material - one thin arm and one fat arm.
THICK clothes only have a few folds! Sometimes a bump is all it takes to suggest a fold for THICK stuff. Examples are sweaters, hoodies, wool, fleece, and denim
THIN clothes have a lot of folds and bumps! Thin stuff usually has more lines that wrap around what's underneath. Examples are rayon, cotton, and crepe
SMOOTH stuff have "squiggly" folds. Smooth cloth folds tend to "loop" back to where they start. Examples are silk, velvet, Satin, Bamboo cotton, and most luxurious stuff
SOFT clothes have round folds. Unlike smooth stuff, soft stuff doesn't have many "squiggles" or solid lines in between. Examples are down jackets, fur, fleece, washed linen, and polyester
STIFF clothes have angular folds! Most folds tend to look triangular - assuming they even fold at all! Examples are raincoats, New denim, canvas, and suits
PS I have avoided talking about loose vs tight clothing since whatever is loose on one person (A shows a thin arm in a baggy yellow sleeve) might not be as loose on a different person (B depicts the same sleeve which comfortably fits around the fat arm). However it's still important to learn about these type of things.
Person asks, "So uh... what happens if the clothes are Smooth and Thin, or Thick and Soft?" The answer is DO BOTH! Top right shows a full woman in a dress that has a Smooth skirt and a Stiff top half. Even though it's one dress, one part is more Smooth while the other part is more Stiff. There are more examples but don't forget to study hard and have fun!

Horns and Antlers

took a while, but i'm mostly back on my feet and have energy again.

I received an ask a while ago about how to add horns and antlers onto a humanoid, so here are my thoughts on that:

Horns And Antlers

(image description: a stock image of the human skull from four angles, front, back, side, and three quarters. Next to it, the same image faded and traced over in blue, with red circles all around the top front portion of the skull. A note on the image says, "there are lots of places you can anchor horns or antlers". end description.)

Here I have marked out some common placements for horns/antlers, and I will show them each in more detail below. The four main areas are: the brow, the center forehead, the top, and the sides of the skull.

As a general rule, horns and antler anchor directly to the skull, but they do not emerge from the skin as solid bone. There is typically a covering layer of some sort, like a keratin sheath, that starts where the horn or antler emerges from the skin. This makes horns and antlers look a bit funny when you remove the skin, because the actual bone base is thinner than the covering layer.

Horns And Antlers
Horns And Antlers
Horns And Antlers
Horns And Antlers

(Image description: same as before, with the four angles of the human skull next to traced versions of it. This time, each of the four images shows the skull with simple horns added and the skull altered to accommodate them in the four basic horn positions. Brow, sides, top, and center forehead. end description.)

Depending on the size of the horns or antlers, you may want to add more bone to the skull, or even thicken the neck bones. Bigger neck and shoulder muscles will also be important to keep the head upright with the additional weight. For horns at the brow and forehead, I've made the brow bone bigger, and for horns at the top and sides, I've made the skull a bit wider and thicker in those areas. It isn't a huge difference, and may not even be very visible on a skin layer, but it's important to be aware of.

And now I also have four sketches of how each horn/antler location would look on a person with the skin and hair in place.

Horns And Antlers

(image description: four simple sketches of people from the shoulders up, in basic shaded colors. From the top left, clockwise:

A man with a mohawk and short beard, frowning. He has curved horns over his brow. A woman with long braided hair and a neutral expression. She has a single horn in the center of her forehead. A man with a beard and long unkempt hair, looking tired but happy. He has moose-like antlers on the sides of his head. An androgynous person with short hair, smiling. They have pronghorn antlers at the top of their head. end description.)

It's very easy on the sides and top of the head to cover the base of the horns/antlers by layering the hair around them. But any horns on the forehead area will be harder to cover this way. I've put thicker skin where the horns and antlers emerge, which has made the brow very heavy on the first two sketches. To balance that out, I also made their nose bridges a bit bigger and more connected to the forehead.

So I hope that helps! Horns and antlers are very fun, and they come in so many shapes.
