Long time no see Tumblr. Quick guide on coloring deeper skin tones
I'm sorry to ask- But You're Really Good At Drawing Art- do you have any tips on drawing big people? i really want to figure it out to properly draw some ocs-
thank you very much, and i’d love to share!
the way i see it, the best way to go about it is to imagine the person you’re drawing being divided into blocks like those little wooden posing figures
i don’t usually plan out a whole character this way, though a good amount of people probably do, but it’s the easiest way to remember where everything goes, anatomy-wise
all you have to do to get varied body types is change the sizes of the blocks, this goes for any body type your going for not just fat ones
And, of course it’s good to remember where fat or muscle collects on a body like the chest, stomach, biceps, thighs, neck and cheeks (this isn’t any kind of Strict Guideline tho, it’s art do whatever you want)
the most important thing is Use Reference, really look at bodies to figure out how they work, if this doesn’t help as much as it should, making your own observations will most likely help you figure out your Own way of doing it
i WAS gonna link some tutorials that helped me when i was still figuring this stuff out but i can’t find Either of them to save my Life so, hope this helps some
My first anatomy tutorial! How I connect arms to the torso. Simplified the muscles for better comprehension
PS. Pectoral is misspelled as “pectorial” in the picture! Don’t make that mistake haha

Male Anatomy
Artist: Brandon McKinney
I taught myself to paint because I don’t have the patience for crisp lineart and now you know how to paint too
i’m still learning anatomy myself so i wouldn’t use this as more than just a general tip but…. I am fascinated by speculative monster anatomy and this is something i discovered years ago and thought i would impart amongst my fellow monster enthusiasts :)
mind you, the second set of pectorals can look kind of funky so i understand aesthetically why people would prefer not to draw them but! if you are someone interested in anatomy, i think this is a thing people dont really think about when giving their OCs wings/extra limbs and i think it’s kind of neat!
morty how the heck do you draw top heavy bodies (kinda like kuins) because its hell 2 me
OK SO THIS IS LATE AND IM BAD AT EXPLAINING SO I JUST SCREENSHOT’D MY PROCESS
FIRST, GET YOURSELF SOME MOOD MUSIC
BASE SKETCH: I don’t usually draw what’s in red there, but this is your basic inverted triangle shape. Basically, as long as you make sure the shoulders create an exaggerated silhouette that highlights the waist, you’re doing the top heavy thing right. Generally, you don’t wanna shrink the waist too much or else it looks REALLY weird, so if you want to exaggerate the shape more, try to focus more on the arms and shoulders. Keep the hips narrow.
LINING SHIT. Add some core muscles to actually support all that up top. I like making the pecs particularly pointy just to drive home the triangle thing.
It’s ya boi
Some advice for if you’re having trouble drawing hands proportionally, for basic pictures–
Put your own hand on your face, with the heel of your palm on your chin. Pay attention to the overall width, and where your fingertips and knuckles are. Then draw a rough outline of the hand over the face you’re drawing, and match the proportions to yours. You can adjust up or down a bit from there if you feel the need, but that should be a good base visual.
