I started playing Baldur's Gate 3 a couple months before I ran away from my mother's house.

Looking back on my first playthrough now, I understand why my favorite characters resonated with me so much...

Astarion, who wanted freedom and choice, who wanted to escape the supervision of someone he had to call a Master and whose orders he had to follow.

Karlah, who also wanted freedom and the ability to simply live, without fear, without orders, without having to fight for her life every day, wanting simple closeness, simple... Touch and acceptance, recognition.

Recognition that they were both not monsters and deserved to live.

I didn't know then how close they really were to me.

These two.

Uh, I have nothing I just wanted to imagine Astarion and Karlach's parents lol

Anyways-

Astarion has two dads

Karlach's dad is a human (in my head anyways) and her mom the tiefling, the worked on boots (I haven't played her romance route yet but we're getting there even if it takes 5 years lol)

Finally completed Karlach's piece a few months late, but definitely proud of this one! 🔥 Just left with Laezel's and Wyll's piece after this!

So, I played BG3 when it was in pre-release for Mac, and I wasn’t very well-versed in all the characters. I was only aware of the four main (Gale, Astarion, Shadowheart and Lae’zel). I don’t even know if Karlach was around when I first started playing.

But when it fully re-leased and I could play it for real, I decided to just recreate my pre-release Tav for my full game…

Y’know.

A barbarian tiefling with an undercut on one side and red skin.

Who, I originally drew as having one horn half chipped off.

Y’know.

Exactly like Karlach?

And then when I encountered Karlach and realised, oh damn, she’d be fun to date?

I couldn’t.

Because I travel with my most important people and having two barbarian teiflings seemed like a waste.

So, I had to silently suffer as I made it through the acts, and ended up making an entire new character with the same actions as my original, just to seduce Karlach and have her on my team.

I'm proud to reveal that the Baldur's Gate stickers are for sale on my shop (please don't laugh at it, I'm still new at Big Cartel). I have about 20 stickers for each companion at the moment!

astarion: this is my partner Durge, and that’s their girlfriend Shadowheart, and that’s Shadowheart’s girlfriend Karlach, and that’s Karlach’s girlfriend Minthara, and thats Minthara’s boyfriend Wyll, and thats Wyll’s girlfriend Lae’zel, and thats Lae’zel’s boyfriend Gale, and that’s Gale’s boyfriend Halsin

and they’re all just some big polycule that has no actual label but they all kiss sometimes

anyway i think all the companions and tav/durge in bg3 should kiss one another

It is Wyll and Karlach having a drink at the reunion party, particularly when Wyll asks with awe if you can smell forest, after their long demon hunting spree in hell. Karlach is looking at Wyll wistfully twirling some blades of grass in her fingers.

This is dedicated to Black creators for making your art, despite the fandom racism stacked against you (not just this! In every one). Thank you for bringing pieces of your heart to this place, you deserve the carefree indulgence of fandoms, and they’re better for having you in it. <3

okay, no shade, but youre missing out on SO much good characters moments if your girlbossify the bg3 women too much. i get it, they're big, strong, badass, but they are, like all bg3 companions, incredibly cringe in their own ways that i think we could stand to appreciate more.

lae'zel throws the worlds biggest meltdown anytime you do anything not directly related to the githyanki creche, only to almost get her shit immediately rocked. lae'zel on modern day stan twitter would be a shitshow and you cant convince me otherwise. and thats before we even mention her fighting you in act two and then immediately crying about it. babygirl its okay, we were only playing. AND TRYING TO KISS HER IN PUBLIC?? she acts big and bad in act 1, fighting rough with you the entire time, but as soon as you ask her for a little kiss? immediate embarrassment. she could absolutely wreck my shit, but shes still a meow meow.

shadowheart is just fantasy catholic. she gets mad if you pick up a statue of selûne bc shes just that catholic. dyes her hair white in a desperate emo crisis of faith moment. recites smut in public. makes jokes that land incredibly flat. is acting way cooler and more chill than she actually is to hide the fact that shes scared. SHE CHOSE THE NAME SHADOWHEART. need i say more?

karlach may be cringe but she is free, i will give her this. she gets the zoomies. she almost blows up a firework shop with her in it because shes so excited. she has a teddy bear called clive. she hasnt read a book since secondary school. she does a little dancy dance if you leave her alone for too long. her inner monologue is just about how horny she is for most people. bisexual failgirl. i love her.

and then the biggest cringefail of them all, minthara. the fact that she absolutely cannot see that every companion at camp actually does grow to really like, love, and respect her bc shes expecting treachery (bc thats what SHE would have done) is as sad as it is just a liiiiittle bit funny. darling. my wife. people like and care about you. not to mention the fact that shes been poisoning you the entire time shes been travelling with you???? cant communicate for the life of her. regularly threatens to kill you but then gets mad if you die. emotionally stunted loserbabe. we will have a july wedding........

what im SAYING isnt that the girls ARENT badass and compotent and cool, what im SAYING is that the lads shouldnt have a monopoly on complexity and depth. you get me?

I‘m sooo normal (feral) about them

The thing that Baldur's Gate got right is that each companion is both extremely cool, tempered with an appropriate dose of cringe.

Gale is a powerful wizard. He uses the phrase 'pish posh' unironically.

Lae'zel is a badass. She asks you to fight her and then gets emotional because you're fighting even though that was her idea.

Karlach. Badass. But we've all seen her idle dance moves.

Wyll is this swashbuckling vigilante and he has a pose he does whenever he says his own superhero name.

Shadowheart. Dark backstory, still striving so hard for the light. Makes a joke about poisonous flowers that falls incredibly flat.

Astarion. Capable rogue and a dangerous vampire. He practises his one-liners ahead of time. Within earshot of the people he wants to use them on.
