this must be drawn
Bwahaha... Update: Apparently it wasn't a typo at all. She actually meant to say Mario Cat, referring to the new cat costumes in the game. hehe. I thought she was trying to say Mario Kart. Well this funny misunderstanding turned out to be fun to draw nonetheless. I need to find this Mario Cat game.
Octo-bear take II.
Revisited this... "Shirokuma of the Sea". Such a majestic beast deserved more than a quick pass. Well, I also just felt like drawing some of my favorite sea creatures. Although, I forgot to put the derpy box-fish. hmm.
Did you know that sharks will go into a sleep like state, or tonic immobility, when flipped upside down? Just learned that a few weeks ago. Wow. Some orcas have actually learned to flip rays (shark cousins) and sharks so they eat 'em proper. I put my pancake and eggs to sleep before I eat them too.
So there: in honor of Shark Week, that shark is not suffering or dead - just asleep.
It spins a web of nuts. That doesn't even makes sense.
Spider Squirrel doing push-ups 50-ft up the palm tree.
We all know this dance.
People rushing, always rushing, towards something that they're afraid to miss out on. Nevermind the elbows to the eyes and the toes to be stepped on. If they stop pushing others around and instead made way for the their neighbors, maybe the ones who actually are in need - if they start stepping back, saying, "Oh hey... you go on ahead. I can wait," - we, all of us, may never get what we really want, but at least the line to get there wouldn't be so uncomfortable. We might actually find that it's quite pleasant, waiting in line, if we're all in it together.
I've been meaning to migrate my old photo blog into tumbler, and I'm happy I finally did it! (http://boxybryfly.tumblr.com/) Armed with a new lens, an oiled up bike, and new, secret, Wacom tech, I am ready to attack the free world once again! After lunch. And maybe when it's not too hot to bike around in full gear. >_> <_<
More birds in a basket, etc.
1) My spirit animal in the morning. We both wake up with our hair up. That and I like grey. 2) A collared dove? They love to sit in the tiny seed boat. Sometimes, I notice a finch sitting up on the hummingbird feeder while the doves eat below. Is it possible that the finch is keeping watch for the dove?
Also: The finches used to prefer the millet seeds, leaving the sunflower seeds for the big birds like the dove and the occasional western scrub jay. But after running out of millet seeds, they started to eat the sunflower seeds more, and now eat the sunflower seeds first and leave the millet seeds alone. Did they acquire this behavior from the big birds?
Another thing I’m curious about: after setting up my seed buffet, more and more types appear to visit - finches, jays, and doves. Squirrels too! I can understand finches communicating to each other, but how do other species find my buffet? Merely by seeing other birds flock? Inter-species collaboration?
3) Not a hummingbird. 5) Fly trapped 6) Basil growing nicely 7) Imagine if every Starbucks cup was re-purposed as a planter.
Squid Marks
How it really happens.

A Bee in a Boba Shop I saw someone sitting in front of me looking super serious with whatever she was doing.
I saw a not so serious bee not so seriously flying into a boba shop.
This piece is borne of that moment.
The Witcher. Geralt of Rivia.
Lunchbreak sketch. No avoiding it. Everytime the books mentioned him pirouetting out of danger, I was envisioning this.
(If you parry with a pirouette, is it now a parruoette? What if you're a parrot?)

Octopolis
Finished the cover for the first issue of Octopolis.
Octopolis - The world is ruined by the 'Rising' but one girl could care less. Deposited from the past into this hodge-podge world of tentacles and tantrums, she meets an unlikely friend in a tiny Newsiepus. Will this friendship last? What happens when she starts to pine for takoyaki? Find out in... OCTOPOLIS!
Coming out: Tentacularly Tentative
Sneak previews to come!
disclaimer: There isn't really a comic. I just ended up drawing a cover. But now that I did... maybe I will make it into one. Maybe. Can I make it into a shirt first? I like making things into t-shirts. Oh you've noticed? Good eye, Tuck!
"Bwaaaah~!"
Work, work, work. I needed a break from drawing other people's stuff. I saw this while looking through my old, unfinished art. A little too late (or early) for the month of OCTOBEAR but hey... I think it's perfect for a summer tee, yah?
I'd wear it. >_>

Weathered it down a bit.
Now I'm trying to remember if there were a lot of dead leaves inside the buildings of The Last of Us. Would clickers get drawn to other clickers stepping on the leaves? Imagine stealth elements that incorporate the environment for TLOS. I guess you might as well have Joel say "metal gear" over and over.
"clickerrr.." (in raspy metal gear voice)
Anyway, I like this. I am trying to take more time with my concepts nowadays. My past industry jobs usually had me crank out pieces within a day or two, and it's a hard habit to break.
This infected is similar to the previous one where it starts to melt towards the end of its cycle (melted infected). Since he was a particularly rotund host, you can see it's taking a while and other colonies have started to sprout on his head, like the clickers. Most of his internal organs, useless to the fungus, have been turned to liquid, slushing around in his neck and belly as he walks.
Shoot the legs to make it explode, collapsing the abomination on itself.
It looks like it can float on water... probably paddle too. Hehe.
If they make a level where you have to evade these things while swimming/assisting Ellie through spore-filled water, through a dark tunnel, I would probably drop-kick my PS3(PS4?) from my balcony.
**update: touched up: http://boxyheadbry.tumblr.com/post/63306041902/rotund-infected-2
Phew~ I needed this. Been drawing too many serious and gruesome things, my eyes were popping.
Glad to be back to the tentacles. ~~(╹◡╹)~~
Color treat of the previous post.
This particular type of infected starts disintegrating and coalesces into a slime pool after its cycle. Kind of like the inky cap mushrooms. They get bloated though and are apt to explode when punctured.
Maybe there will be a half dripping version that walks. That'd be great to see I think.
One of the guy's interchangeable drill bit hands were taken off since it looked like forearm bones. I still think it was cool that he chopped off his own hand for fear of infection.
Just having fun making concept sketches for the world of The Last of Us.
Big guns.
A simpler view of this girl: http://boxyheadbry.tumblr.com/post/62406638167/kaprrsschhh-partly-inspired-by-the-last-of-us
with some costume edits, to make sure it doesn't fall apart when she's jumping around like that. >_>
Stayed away from the shiny this time around though.
A continuation of a series that I originally started as oil paintings, that were in turn inspired by the book Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I’ve always loved doors, doorways, and the hallways in between, and that story had some special doors in it. Aren’t books doors?
Portals, windows, and moongates that lead to places other than here are fascinating. Even now when I go between two posts on the sidewalk, the ones holding up a sign, I imagine that I somehow crossover to a world different from where I once was, but still very similar.
One of these days I’ll come across a paper airplane under those posts.
I am having too much fun making infected. o_o
Took the earlier Infected concept (http://boxyheadbry.tumblr.com/post/62144282387/i-had-to-how-can-i-love-the-last-of-us-and-not) and placed it in a more realistic setting.
Kaprrsschhh~.
Partly inspired by The Last of Us, and partly just wanted to draw something technical and shiny. Bzzattt!
I had to. How can I love The Last of Us and not do an Infected? I call this one granny.
The other guy wasn't supposed to be Joel actually, but I guess it turned out looking like him. It was just a piece inspired by another game that dealt with a similar zombie apocalyptic theme. Maybe he's opening a jar of jam?
Came across an old piece that I never finished. It had an all-out-epic battle going on, but I think I'll trim it down to three key players for now. It's fun to revisit and refurbish old ideas. :]
Still have a ways to go!
[close-up] - I was seriously cursing out loud as I was putting that poor guy in that situation. He's pretty screwed.
But his brother(?) is screaming "Nuuuuuuuu! Broooottthhherrr!"
But he has no legs. How does he hope to save him? How did he even launch himself in the air? Through brotherly love that's what. True bro-mance.
Breaking away from the sword and sorcery with a little sci-fi to soothe the soul. [:
Drawing drawing drawing. Catching up on some drawing. Recently been inspired by some games - namely The Last of Us, and my replaying of Guild Wars 2. I don't usually draw from games, so I suppose that should be a testament to how much I loved those games. Sadly there are no octopuseseseses (yet).
The last piece was just me breaking away from all the costume shmostume, industry type art for a bit. Just a bunch of peeps up to something.
Ta da!
