Neku Sakuraba from TWEWY is a Margay! (Leopardus wiedii)

A unique species of cat with a solitary nature and incredible night vision, the margay is wholly adaptated for true aboreal life-- they have incredible joint flexibility in the hind legs, and are able to run headfirst down trees like squirrels! The margay is the first neotropical predator recorded as using mimicry, with calls able to closely imitate the vocalisation produced by their preferred prey-- in the original obeservation, specifically the sounds of a juvenile tamarin.

To be honest I’m more interested in the fact that Neku Sakuraba and Roxas has the same Japanese voice actor in Dream Drop Distance.

I did a bunch of sprite edits for an au I'm working on but I was waiting til I did some writing for it to actually post but I'm taking forever to do so lol....

so anyways it's a simple roleswap au! the swaps being neku<>josh beat<>shiki and rhyme<>eri (and ofc the rest of the cast I haven't drawn yet... minamimoto and hanekoma swap will be real... )

the general premise is that all of their personalities and entrance fees are the same, their characters just would be written differently in accordance to their roles and positions in the story

I'll post the full sprites when I get the writing done <3

So I thought about a JoshNeku Au and it goes a little like this .

Both have been bullied.

Both become childhood friends.

We know Joshua was able to see the game but what if Neku was similar as in able to go between the UG and RG (sorta like a ghost).

Neku also has a thing with the nosies for he can communicate them by understanding their feelings and at times they even help him but there still that tried to attack them so he focus on what routes he takes to avoid that kind of noises,same with the reapers ( has a progfox as a little buddy named Haruya and Joshua loves it too).

Neku has very sensitive hearing so that why he wear headphones ( gift from Joshua) or try not to go out where the crowd can be to much unfortunately not often and Joshua tries.

Spent most of time where the Mr.CAT mural that Joshua show to Neku because is mostly isolated and quiet , a perfect hangout.

Never told each other about the game until they found out they both had known about the game, even Joshua later took Neku to Mr.H (will know he is CAT later) .

Joshua goes with his plan on becoming composer ( keep it a secret from Neku) his fee is Neku memories of him( like beat) but because of some twisted rules he was unable to get his fee back even if he now composers ( did it as player not reaper so that why).

Neku in grief of his close forgotten friend but it gets worse cause his dad eventually died of illness and far later his mom died in an accident so he now lives with his uncle who isn’t caring.

Still goes to wildcat on his hard and badest days because he feels calm and safe there but Hanekoma can’t tell Neku the truth of what happened to Joshua because the risk of breaking rules.

Neku now rumor as the ghost of Shibuya ( though no one knows is him)

Neku has a plush of his dream eater cat partner from kingdom hearts drop distance because yes!

Shiki now becomes Joshua proxy for the game, Eri becoming her 1st week partner (erishiki if you want)

Neku meets the two and as the weeks goes on he tries to help a little but careful to not get caught.

Oh and finally Neku has a Cat Fox Hybrid Noise form but we’ll get to that later.

so i remembered the wicked twisters were actually still alive(minus shoka and neku) during the long game, so danny might actually not notice rindo, fret and nagi. but he'll still totally notice beat, neku, shiki, shoka, and probably rhyme as dead-adjacent. right?

so i have a headcanon/au thing about neku while he was in shinjuku. he was able to use any psych, to the surprise of the people in charge, which, alongside surviving a whole month, gained him the reputation of a legendary player. but what if the pins just don't exist in shinjuku? the noise there aren't stable enough to drop any. no pins, no psychs.

so how was he supposed to defend himself against the Static Noise(they're made up of static and are pretty mindless)? he had no psychs, and not even a player pin. instead, he's able to use the powers of any psych he'd ever used before without pins. the powers are part of him, and this ability even follows him into the shibuya ug.

now how would this be integrated into a dp and twewy crossover?

this man has died twice, and was forced into an erased city. it still exists obviously so it had to have gone somewhere that isn't connected to earth.

it got plopped in its own negative space in the infinite realms, full of the shades of its citizens and one twice dead guy, filling him with ectoplasm. except, the city is in its own space, disconnected enough to not truly be part of the infinite realms.

neku and shinjuku are still connected to earth enough they can come back. but he was still twice dead in the ghost zone.

neku comes back to shibuya a halfa.

he's had three years to adjust to powers, so no one notices, not even him. he's never gone invisible or intangible because he never really needed to(and if it ever happened on accident, he just chocked it up to shinjuku being weird), and there are psychs that let you hover. he's basically been in purgatory, why wouldn't he come back strange? danny notices.

neku has an existential crisis over still being dead, if only halfway.

i wonder if anyone has ever made a danny phantom and the world ends with you crossover?

both series focus around death and how it affects people(moreso fanon in dp's case but i digress), so i think the concept of the infinite realms and the underground and real ground, plus the implied other layers(grounds?), could fit together nicely. infinite realms are called that for a reason after all, and a big reason why danny phantom (the concept) can crossover with so much other media.

and yes, obviously shibuya and illinois(?) are really seriously far apart, so how could the characters possibly interact? simple; the fentons go yokai hunting for the summer.

jack and maddie for some reason deduce yokai are real(debatable) and must be from the ghost zone. so they go on a vacation to japan to hunt them down, dragging their kids with them because it is a vacation after all.

through whatever circumstances, danny and jazz meet and interact with the twewy characters. danny definitely notes them as "dead-adjacent", while jazz clocks them as all needing serious therapy, which like "Yeah! We know! Our trauma is Special™!". but she has experience with dealing with her brother and his "death trauma"(which he vehemently denies having). also i think it would be funny if danny was able to bounce back and forth between the rg and ug, actively bullying reapers.

ellie could come too! she'd probably love making joshua's life hell (you go girl)

whether or not the drs fenton find actual yokai? who knows. danny probably.
