i like how kaz is kinda a 4 time divorcee (big boss, ocelot, venom, nameless wife.) messiest bitch to ever live.
actually i DO want to talk about catherine miller. here is what we know about catherine: she was Kaz’s daughter, she was a child during MG2 (in 1999) and it is implied in the MGS4 database that she lived with him during MGS1 (in 2005) my guess from her dialogue is that she was 5-8 years old in MG2, putting her birth year around 1991-1994.
but who was her mom? hell, considering kaz was infertile, who was her biological dad? what made him decide to raise her? was he raising her alone or was there a shared custody agreement with her mom? (endlessly fascinated by Kaz Divorce Arc but that’s for another post) did she have a good childhood? was she loved? considering she was living with kaz in 2005 was she the one to find his body? how did she react? (she was only a child) where did she go after? did she ever discover anything about her dad’s past? were there always agents watching her? did she ever meet solid snake? did she ever meet his daughter? did she get to grow up?
i know she was an afterthought character probably meant to be retconned out but i wish i could get my hands on the forbidden catherine lore, if it even existed.

In 1998, Konami released two games that Hideo Kojima worked on, one of which was Metal Gear Solid 1, arguably his most famous project.
answer below the cut!
Hideo Kojima worked on all 3 of the Tokimeki Memorial visual novels, the second of which was released in 1998.
For those who don’t know, Tokimemo was a massively popular dating sim series (in Japan, the definition of dating sim is very different from the modern western deifinition of “romance visual novels.” They have a focus on strategy and stat-building. There aren’t really any popular games in the west that are like this afaik.) Kojima worked on a series of 3 visual novels, which came out in the years between the first and second main entries. I think they were pretty well recieved. I can’t find much about them because they are untranslated but I’m pretty sure they were typical romance visual novels, focusing on high school slice of life. Pretty different from the rest of his works, huh?
I guess we know why MGS is so romantic now
kojima otasune tweets: they’re basically married :) like johnlock :)
kojima bosselot tweets: [the horniest yaoi you have ever seen a 50something ostensibly heterosexual man retweet]
i actually debated between calling him “heterosexual” and “allegedly heterosexual” and decided to be a good girl who doesn’t speculate about celebrities’ sexualities, but you’re right, considering his Mads Mikkelsen Feelings and such. i edited the og post to add the word “allegedly”
