Funny How A Mass Arrest Goes Completely Under The Radar When It's Mostly Teens, Right?

Okay so I've noticed people critiquing the Spanish in Miguel O'hara fanfics and the British Black sling for Hobie. I'm not sure what to do for the British sling for the fanfic I want to post about because I'm black/native and live in the South and have only met 2 British people in my life and they are both white. I've tried to find British sling generators and they suck so I what imma do is just study some black British. YouTubers and see if I can get get down the lingo enough to make it sound natural.

Now for Miguel I actually might have an ace in the hole since my familie's business recently got large Spanish speaking clientele due to me changing our menu to Spanish. And I have spanish speaking friends and family. Irish on the other hand I have an abundance of friends and teachers of Irish descent to can get info from since oddly most of my white friends are of Irish descent.

For the record: I know very little Spanish and can understand and read it way more than I can speak it....But I've learned some things and I want to see if I'm right.

1. Every country has a different dialect. For example Venezuelan and Spain Spanish sounds different from for example Domincan and Mexican Spanish.

2. Spain Spanish is considered 'proper' Spanish and if not favored amongst other Spanish speaking communities. Spaniards are like the British of Spanish essentially. (My black people out there already know since it's like Proper or British English vs the different varieties of Aave)

3. If you have to use a translator DO NOT USE GOOGLE TRANSLATE. Google translate is apparently painfully proper and sometimes does not make since when translated from proper/aave English. Find a different translator as Spanish speaking readers can tell immediately.

4. Miguel is Irish/ Mexican. Irish people actually have their own different dialects that differs in every region. They have different languages spoken in Ireland as well.

5. I'm assuming mixed people of Irish/Mexican descent would appreciate them both featured in fanfics. Maybe?

6. I think for my black people out there that live in America at least if we struggle with black British sling we could lean on black aave in different states that sound similar to it. I feel like Baltimore aave might work. I grew up in Detriot and in the current southern state I'm in and it sounds similar depending on the pronunciation of words. (Btw white people out there who don't have many black friends or people that's live around you, aave or african amercan vernacular English sounds different in every state. For example look up Louisiana aave and New York aave and you will understand) I feel like for black writers our normal aave but just stronger could work as well for Hobie.

So as a takeaway, if you want your fics to read a bit easier for your black, British, and Spanish speaking readers, ya might want to do a bit of research. Or maybe make your own universe version of that charecter. I thought about making a Southern Hobie Brown since I have a friend I want to base him off as he reminds me of Hobie so freaking much. From the dark liner and choker to the constantly critiquing the government and authoritarian figures and not like consistency in certain areas on his life. So yeah that's what I got.

The 'I got to travel to another world and got an existential crisis / trust issues' duo.

Theoretically I don’t object to the idea of Harley Quinn moving away from The Joker’s influence and having that reflected in her costume, but that’s… not what her character designers have done. They’ve dropped the clown theme for a design based on a skimpy cheerleading uniform in the same colors as her traditional costume. If Harley’s costume change is supposed to reflect a new idependence, it shouldn’t be based on her old costume at all and should be something new and cool to represent self-reinvention, not just “we didn’t think the clown theme was sexy enough to sell to a modern audience”.

HOWEVER. You know what would be fun? If Harley decided to out-clown the Joker and steal his theme from him. Commit to the act in a way he never could and actually take up classes on clowning and physical comedy. Become Dr. Harley Quinn, the DCU’s leading expert on being a clown. When people think “the clown from Gotham” they don’t think of The Joker at all. That would be sweet, sweet revenge that I would love to read.

A response to the “Athena is a victim blamer and hates women” crowd

The idea that Athena punishes victims of rape is very popular in today’s culture because of how famous Ovid’s retelling of the Medusa myth has gotten. It hurts me that people think that Athena hates assault victims because of 1 (one) story written by a man who hated authority figures and wanted to slander the gods.

Before Ovid’s Metamorphoses (which is part of Roman mythology, not Greek mythology fyi), all of the mythology regarding Medusa said that she was born a monster. She wasn’t a beautiful woman who was assaulted and no one transformed her. She was a sister of Echidna, a monster born from a family of monsters. Ovid’s tale of Medusa is a fictional story that has no basis on greek culture and that he wrote to push a political narrative. If you want to learn how Athena acted in actual greek mythology, here are some stories for you:

- When Ajax The Lesser raped Cassandra at a temple of Athena, Athena punished him and the greeks who failed to chastise him by sending a storm that sank their fleet. Ajax was shipwrecked and drowned, while his people, the (historical) Opuntians, were told by Apollo that to appease the goddess they would have to send maidens to the Trojan land for the next 1000 years, when the maidens arrived there they became priestesses of Athena.

- In Hyginus’ Fabulae, when the princess Nyctimene was found crying in the woods because her own father had raped her, Athena transformed her into her sacred owl and appointed her as her animal companion.

- In Ovid’s Metamorphoses (I’m only using this as a source to show how selective people are), Coroneis, princess of Phokis, was chased down by Poseidon. She cried out to Athena and the goddess transformed her into a crow to save her from the rape.

- For Hera’s sake, Athena IS a victim of attempted rape. In mythology, Hephaestus tried to force himself on her and she fought him off. The myth explicitly says that she felt disgusted by this.

Besides Ovid’s Metamorphoses Book 4, in every other myth about Athena and rape she is completely against it, protects the woman in danger and punishes the rapist.

Also, let’s talk about how in ancient times the cult of Athena was a escapeway for women. “The cult of Athena provided women in ancient Greece not only with a purpose outside the home and childbearing but a significant role in the life of the city. In the Athenian culture, which regularly suppressed feminine energy, even while celebrating it through their patron deity, Athena’s cult was an opportunity for women to express themselves, be recognized, and contribute to the religious and cultural life of the city.” (World History Encyclopedia, Joshua J. Mark)

In the Parthenon, a famous temple of Athena, there was a statue of Pandora, the first of womankind, where she was honored. (Pausanias, Description of Greece 1. 24. 5)

It’s worth noting that 99% of the sources that we have about ancient greece were written by aristocratic men, we have little to no idea of how women viewed and worshipped the gods. To sum it up, before y’all call Athena an anti-feminist, a rape enabler, or a victim blamer PLEASE read actual mythology and put some respect on Athena Axiopoenus (the avenger against injustice)’s name <3

You See, I’m not Really From Here..

Request: reader falls into the DC universe and runs into the yan batboys +Bruce (separate). Reader tries to avoid being found but fails. Later on, reader and them fall in love and is about to get married. Reader finds out about there tendencies and made manages to escape back to the real world. Unknown to then she was carrying their child. 5years later they return to bring them back to the DC universe.

Ok so I’m going to put a small little story that would lead you up to meeting them and so a on. Anyways here you go!

You had no idea what was happening. All you knew was that you came home form work or school (if so college) and just wanted to get some rest. And just as you planned on laying down you found yourself… Falling. How you didn’t know but like any other person would. You started to scream.

And then there was this opening looking down you saw as if you had teleported? To some place but screamed more as you that the ground was coming closer. Just as you thought your life was going to end you felt someone latch onto you and then being placed done on solid grounds.

Peaking, you looked and saw that you didn’t fall to your death, horray! But now the next thing to worry about… Where were you?

“What were you trying to do, kill yourself? You’re lucky that I was around and egrabbed you before you fell. ”

Hearing an unknown voice, you spun yourself around and saw… What the-

“Uh… What’s going on here? This is a joke, right? If it is, it’s not funny.” you questioned the unknown somewhat familiar figure in front of you.

“What? -”

“And what’s with the whole costume thing. You trying to cosplay as ______ ( vigilante name) or something? Cause let me tell you, it looks really cool. ”

“Ma'am what are you talking about-”

“Oh come on you know! _____ real name ____? ”

After saying their name, they through you on to the ground a hand covering your mouth. “HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME! ” They growled looking around to see if this was some sort of trap.

“Get-get off me! ” swiping your hand at them, your hand glew a blue color and they flew back. Shocked you looked at you hand scared and confused and looked back towards the masked male. Seeing them groaning you panicked and took off. Hearing their shouts you just kept running. What was going on?

That was weeks ago. You found out that you somehow managed to get teleported into the DC universe and into Gotham City. Finding out you had a full on panic mode. Mostly having no idea how to return home or what you were going to do now. But luckily you had somehow managed to get a job (and got into a college in Gotham for the two younger ones) and found a place. You did a lot of research over your free time trying to find away to get back and what you were going to do with this new power you gained as well.

But one thing that’s stood in your head was

‘Holy shit- I really just meet ____! ’
