Some tips for hobbying while being cheap and neurodivergent:
If you, like me, pick up cool rocks and want to show them off and have cool terrain at the same time: glue them into cool piles on a piece of cardboard to make landmarks. People have been stacking large rocks in piles for millennia to mark trails and denote distances. And now everyone can see your cool rocks on the tabletop!
Do you ever worry about mixing up too much Green Stuff or Milliput? Have a leftover epoxy putty project. Don’t rush it, it’s just where you put all the leftover stuff. It doesn’t look like much now, but one day I’ll have a four armed, two headed Chaos Giant because I keep mixing up a little too much putty!
Do you ever want to do make statues for your terrain, but you don’t want to sacrifice a whole mini to make one? Glue extra horns and weapons onto Knights and Warriors style army men from the dollar stores! You’ll have some convincing statues after just a prime and a dry brush or two!
Skullvane Manse! This is the third of my big trio of Warhammer Fantasy Battles big towers. This came with an option to make the tower into an observatory and at the time I thought that was less cool, but these days I think the observatory sounds pretty rad and I still have the dome so I might be due to make one sticking out of a mountain or something!
The Dreadstone Blight! I put this one on a base which I carved deep drainage ditches into. I was going to fill it in with a clear resin or something to simulate water but I decided the elevation didn’t make a whole lot of sense. I’ll revisit it someday.
Your Warhammer collection is awesome.
Thanks! I’ve been at it since the mid 90’s! I appreciate all the likes and reblogs!
The Witchfate Tor! I painted this a long time ago around whenever it came out. It’s due for some touch ups! The “statues” are game pieces from a TSR Hobbies board game called “Dragonstrike” that I bought at a surplus store called Ax Man. Back then I was a smoker with a Redbull habit. Nothing some steady dry brushing and spot detailing couldn’t fix!
I also have the ruined version, the Dreadstone Blight, and another tower whose name escapes me. Not the Deathknell Watch, the other one with the asymmetrical construction that could double as an observatory. Let me know if you know the name!
I try to post something every day. I have a lot of stuff to show everybody. Here’s today’s! This Orc Warboss that I converted/kitbashed after listening to the Misfits a lot about 10 years ago or so. I named him Grimghost the Black and his lore is that he’s the leader of a warband from Sylvania called Da Grave Eatas! The ghouls eat the corpses and the boys eat the ghouls! One day I’ll make a regiment for him.
Cold One knights join the company. I bought these second hand and touched up the paint. Just the standard bearer left (that needs painting from scratch).
I batch painted ten more orc big’uns while listening to a podcast about a lady driving a semi looking for a serial killer. Can recommend “Alice isn’t Dead.” Anyway, I’ve got 25 of them now led by Warboss Gorgut from Lair of the Orclord from Warhammer Quest!
Orc Bosses!
I have used contrast paint for once in my life and it's alright. Next time I'll do gray tones first, make some shadows.
Maybe I can mimic tie-dye with these things.
In regards of the Trump government scraping all trans inclusion in its queer information portion of its websites I have made this thing. Spread the word. Don't let them pretend we never existed.
P.S: Don't like! Reblog! <3
Here is the Age of Sigmar Loonshrine I painted a while ago and the Idol of Gork and Mork for size comparison!
I’m calling it finished for now… Idol of Gork and Mork from the Storm of Chaos campaign, updated in 2025
Idol of Gork and Mork! Scratch built from foam board, garden rocks, those cheap bead necklace things that Jack Skelington dog tags from Spencer’s gifts come on, and Games Workshop skulls.
I originally made this for the Storm of Chaos campain for Warhammer Fantasy Battles sixth edition in the early 2000’s. I added the bad moon later and combined it with some stone pillars I made as my first attempt with using foam board insulation for builds.
I’m going to be doing some updates to it! Adding more Shields and Totems!
My Blood Bowl teams! The Reikland Reavers in Blue and White and Gold, The Orcland Raiders in Oakland Raiders colors, and The Norsca Rampagers in Minnesota Golden Gopher colors!
I painted this mini at least 15 years ago, maybe closer to 20 and today I found out on Tumblr that it’s from an Angus McBride painting!!!
I have the mini of that ogre somewhere!
Angus McBride
Some miscellaneous minis that I’ve painted!
Some work in progress shots of my Mordheim board! It’s set in a nearby Orc Fort!
SPRUE FORTRESS FOR TEH WARHAMMERS, SPRUES FOR TEH SPRUE GOD
I made some huts and some towers from take out containers, popsicle sticks, paper towels, school glue, and leftover bits for my Mordheim board!
I KNOW HOW MY FILTHY MUTANT ABILITIES UPSET YOU, SCHMIDT. DON’T WORRY–
–YOU WILL DIE PURE. NO MAGNETISM
JUST FISTS.
I painted this unit of 30 black orcs as the Krimson Killaz from the 8th edition rulebook/Total War: Warhammer games!
Eeza Ugezod’s Mother Crushers. Black orc regiment of renown from the 1980’s! I’m pretty stoked to have and to have painted 25 of these guys!
I love when Grimgor Ironhide checked the hubris of both Valten (and Karl Franz) and Archaon the Everchosen at the conclusion of the Storm of Chaos (global) campaign for Warhammer Fantasy Battles 6th Edition. Just smacked both of them around to prove a point and then left. What was that point? That both of them had made a terrible error not considering Grimgor and his ‘Ardboyz as the main threat.
Also Vardek Crom trying to take his army through Sylvania was equally a dumb idea.
Here are some very old paint jobs from when I played in that campaign!
by Ian Walker - Polygon, February 7, 2025
Artist Adam Huenecke recently used his love for both ’80s sitcoms and tabletop wargaming as inspiration for a series of figures imagining the eponymous Golden Girls as battle-hardened warriors in the service of Warhammer 40K’s grimdark Imperium of Man. And while not the most obvious peanut butter cup-style pairing, the results are incredible.
“I’m a massive Golden Girls fan, so I can think of no better leadership for my Adeptus Sororitas,” Huenecke said via Instagram caption on Jan. 26. “I’ve been working through this concept for years and I’m excited to finally have it accomplished.”
Speaking to Polygon, Huenecke said the crossover was a natural result of being a lifelong fan of The Golden Girls and miniature painting. His dream was helped along by a digital sculptor at tabletop company Black Site Studios, who modeled the figures’ custom heads. Black Site Studios has since made the heads available as digital models for a small fee.
“Once I had the head sculpts, I printed out a bunch of reference pictures to try to do their faces justice,” Huenecke told me through email. “I had to digitally sculpt Sophia’s purse (carried by the cherub), which I’m not very good at so it took forever. Otherwise, I had to modify the miniatures a little to fit some of the characteristics of each Girl: I made Dorothy a little taller, Sophia much shorter, etc.”
Due to the Golden Girls dressing as nuns at various points in the series, Huenecke figured Warhammer 40K’s pseudo-religious Sisters of Battle were a “natural fit,” and went about choosing models he felt matched their unique characteristics. Sophia “runs the show,” much like a senior officer known as a Cannoness, Dorothy is modeled after the discipline-focused Dogmata due to students nicknaming her “Attila the Sub” when she teaches high school, Rose’s love for telling stories about her hometown St. Olaf made her a perfect fit for the inspirational Dialogus, and Blanche became a whip-wielding Repential Superior thanks to her often-physical guidance.
“It turns out there is a considerable crossover in the fandoms,” Huenecke said when asked about the feedback he’s received. “People were happy to see the loving detail put into some of their favorite characters. The Golden Girls holds up over time; their humor is based on brilliant timing and great writing, and their values are surprisingly progressive, even by today’s standards. I think that resonates with a lot of gamers who have revisited the series. And honestly, if you aren’t a fan of the Golden Girls, you’re probably not any fun to spend several hours pushing toy soldiers around with.”
I made some frenzied (savage) orc chariots for Warhammer the Old World! This particular guy seen before I put him on the chariot has huge Bat Boy from Weekly World News energy and I love him!
Khorne Juggernaut!! From 2023 or 2024!
