Hi Fer! I simply love your blog and tutorials so much, but I was wondering on how you draw masculine bodies? My drawings have been female and slender men, and when I try... it just doesn't look right. So any tips can be really helpful because I want to try and draw different body shapes. easiest thing is probably to widen the shoulders and up the muscle mass! it really helps to study anatomy so you know which areas to exaggerate. a more muscular/masculine person will have a more defined sternocleidomastoid (in blue) and bigger traps (green); basically a thicker neck. playing with the shoulder to hip ratio will help as well. i guess if you want a super manly man just make him look like a dorito

a friend of mine was having trouble with a character of hers, he was middle-aged but looked too young, so she came to me for help. i'm something of a middle-aged-man-fan so i whipped up this quick thing to help her out. it might be useful to somebody out there so i'll share it here too!

Reminder braids are not a universal hairstyle between tribes! I’m coming from the perspective of Great Plains tribes. I just thought I might share what braided hair means to my community and people. I see people trying to make ocs or redesigns of characters who are native but don’t actually represent us too good. Reminder to always research a tribe before making a character learn their protocols and at least try to learn something new! 🌸💖🍇

Hello! Do you have any tips for drawing cows? I really struggle with stylizing them and I love how you draw them

sorry this took so long to reply to but i finally got around to cows again.

western cattle are very much an arrangement of rectangles. their topline is straight and angular contrasted by their flabby skin and wrinkles, then you see them from the front or back and they’re round?? the best way to learn to draw animals is life sketches, I go to our annual agriculture show to see cows. They’re also shaved for the show ring there so i get a clear image of them.

looking at skeletals and anatomy drawings is also helps a lot, i recommend Hermann Dittrich’s lithographs and Jack Hamm’s ‘how to draw animals’

when you can visualize the shapes you can start to play with them and stylize

cows and horses are not closely related and their skeletons are very different, especially their hindquarters. i’m not sure what other specific tips i have i hope these help

ok heres a small thing for drawing freckles bc i keep seeing artists just putting dots wherever they Feel Like It and as a freckly boy i feel Personally Attacked

try to avoid putting frecks on places that clothes would go a lot

dont space them evenly 

dont draw freckles on a Fresh Born Baby

draw all your poc characters in black and white, without greytones, and check if they’re still recognizable as poc.

if they look completely fucking indistinguishable from your white characters then u should work that
