Info: Chicago is a magical place in the snow, but it becomes magical for the Severide family.
Relationship: Kelly Severide x wife reader
Kelly Severide sighed heavily as he looked outside the firehouse to see the snow falling heavily. It was always nice to see the snow cover the grounds, but as an emergency service worker, Kelly hated it. The roads always became slippy, regardless at how often they were cleared, which meant that multiple accidents were bound to happen. Severide had lost count at how many 51 had been called to today, but it was far from his mind with all the changes about to happen.
Kelly and Y/n were due to become parents in the next few weeks. The couple had hoped the snow would be gone before y/n’s due date, but it seemed unlikely the closer they got to the date. Kelly had told his wife to be careful with the change of weather, but y/n was always an anxious person when home alone, and with her leaving work to spend time relaxing before the baby, she often found herself walking to the firehouse to make dinner for the crew. Kelly would always scold her for walking to the house in the freezing temperatures, but y/n made the point of it being good for dilation.
Kelly smiled when he seen the familiar figure waddling up the driveway, a shopping bag in one hand. Seeing y/n’s slow steps, Kelly threw on his coat before walking down the driveway to meet her. Y/n smiled up at him as he took the bag from her, and rolled her eyes as Severide wrapped one arm around her waist, the other taking her hand along with the bags to help her walk.
“Kelly I’m fine walking on my own.” Y/n whined, shaking her head at her husbands antics. “I don’t want you to slip. It can harm the baby.” Kelly stated, shaking off her concerns as they made it inside the building. “I think the baby will be just fine with your genes.” Y/n remarked, allowing Kelly to take her coat and scarf, opting to keep on her hat. “Hi.” She smiled, pecking Kelly on the lips.
Kelly smiled as he moved to drape their coats over his chair before taking the bag once again as his wife mae her way into the canteen. Y/n smiled as she heard the firemen cheer when they seen her, Kelly just laughing as he moved to place the bag on the table.
“Hey, our chef is here.” Hermann stated, pointing at the very pregnant woman in front of them. “What we have today?” Mouch asked, looking over the couch to see her. “I was thinking some lamb stew, something easy.” Y/n shrugged, accepting the hug Stella gave her. “You didn’t have to come, we could of made something ourselves.” Stella scolded the woman, placing a hand on y/n’s very swollen stomach. “I like doing it. Nothing else to be doing with Kelly hiding all the babies stuff that needs to be built.” Y/n spared a glare to Kelly who put his hands up in surrender. “Forgive me for not wanting you straining yourself.” Kelly stated. “We haven’t even got the babies crib built yet.” Y/n remarked, causing everyone to chuckle.
Silence filled the room as the bell was heard, the woman’s voice coming through with the information needed. Y/n laughed lightly as the crew stepped into action, Kelly kissing the side of her head as he rushed by her. Tapping him on the arm, y/n watched the fire trucks drove off before moving to start prepping the food.
--
The house was smelling of fresh cooking when Kelly returned from their newest case. Rubbing his hand over his face he followed the rest of the firefighters into the canteen where they could see y/n finishing up sorting the plates and basket of rolls. Smiling slightly at her, he moved towards her to pull her into a hug, only for her to move away from him on the last second.
“Clean up first.” Y/n scrunched her nose as he looked at his sooty face. “Not even a hug.” Kelly mocked hurt. “No way are you touching me while your all dirt.” Y/n stated, causing Kelly to sigh jokingly. “Come on, dinners ready.”
Chuckling lightly Kelly moved away from his wife and quickly hit the showers. It wasn’t long before he returned, and y/n happily gave him a hug when he approached her. Rubbing his hand on her bump he gave her a quick kiss before moving to grab two plates. Following y/n to an empty chair, he dug into his food, very little conversation happening as each firefighter dug in.
The wind could be heard outside as y/n and Kelly made their way out to the front, Kelly helping y/n put on her coat before turning to grab his own. As he turned he seen y/n grimace slightly, hand her stomach, and he frowned as he walked towards her.
“You alright?” He asked, placing a hand on her back. “Yeah just baby kicking like crazy lately” Y/n sighed, rubbing her stomach lightly. “Do you want to sit down for a minute? I’ll just tell Boden I’m walking you home.” “No Kelly, I’m fine. Just give me a minute to catch my breath and then I can..” Kelly cut him off only to stop mid conversation. “You been getting these often?” Kelly asked, concerned for her and the babies wellbeing. “This morning but than they went away. I’m sure they’ll settle in a minute.” Y/n’s voiced pitched higher as she felt another strong kick, followed by the feeling of water on her legs. “I think your waters just broke.” Kelly spoke, panicking slightly at the puddle on the ground. “No, no, I’m sure it’s false labour.” Y/n spoke, trying to convince herself. “Waters don’t break at false labour babe.” Kelly stated, grabbing y/n’s arm to help her sit down. “We’re not ready, we haven’t even a crib for them.” Y/n stated, cringing as she felt another contraction. “Hey, hey, breath, it’s okay. We’ll get through this okay. Stella.” Kelly called out, crouching down to be at y/n’s eye level.
Hearing Kelly shout her first name, Kidd ran out, stopping as she seen Kelly crouching down in front of y/n. Y/n had her head on Kelly’s chest, trying to ignore the waves of pain. They weren’t that close at the minute, so Kelly knew they had time, but he wanted to get to the hospital before the bad night fall of snow began.
“We need to get y/n to the hospital.” Kelly stated, and Kidd nodded.
---
Kelly had stayed by y/n’s side throughout the journey to the hospital. Brett and Kidd both went with them with the weather conditions unknown. Every now and then they heard y/n cry out in pain, but Kelly kept holding her hands, allowing her to squeeze them as hard as she wanted. On arrival, y/n was brought straight to the maternity ward, where Maggie was waiting. Having been y/n’s nurse throughout the pregnancy, she wanted to be there to help y/n when needed.
The birth wasn’t quick, but it was smooth sailing, and Kelly felt like he had little time to think before Maggie shouted that they could see the head. When Kelly let go of y/n’s hand to grab himself a drink, y/n had taken to hitting his arm multiple times, causing him to give up and turn his full attention to her. His hand was numb by the end but he didn’t care so long as mother and baby were okay.
“It’s a healthy baby boy. Congratulations.” Maggie announced as cries were heard, and y/n struggled to catch her breath as she laughed lightly. “You did it y/n.” Kelly smiled down at her, tears evident in his eyes. “A baby boy.” Y/n cried, watching as the baby was wrapped in a blanket. “Would dad like to do the honours?” Maggie asked, offering the surgical scissors to Kelly. “Where do I?” “Just here where the clamp is.” Maggie coaxed his hand to the umbilical cord, helping him cut it.
Kelly smiled as he caught his first look at his son before grinning at y/n. Leaning down to kiss y/n’s head he moved her hair back from her forehead before the baby was hand to him. Y/n watched tiredly as the nurses worked to tidy her up.
“You just need two stitches.” Maggie noted, allowing the doctor in. “He’s perfect.” Kelly stated, bringing the baby over to his mother. “I never thought I could love any more than I do now.” Y/n spoke as Kelly placed the babe in her arms. “What are we calling him?” Maggie asked, moving to admire the baby. “Nicholous, Nickolous Kel Severide.” Y/n noted, Kelly nodded in agreement. “Perfect, just like his mother.” Kelly nodded, kissing y/n’s head as she looked down at the baby in her arms.
Jay took it slow as they drove around, listening the y/n as she leaned against the back seat, her eyes closed as she gave directions. Antonio sighed, grumbling as they came to a stop in front of an apartment building. Jay gave him a look as he opened the door to y/n, allowing her to stand still before walking to the entrance of what looked like an abandoned building. Jay grimaced as he looked around at the walls, following y/n as she muttered under her breath. He nearly bumped into her when she came to a stop.
“This was it.” Y/n explained nodding to the chipped door. “You sure?” Jay asked as Antonio eyed him. “Uhuh.” y/n nodded, flinching as Antonio grabbed her to move her away from the door. “Chicago pd.” Jay called out, knocking on the door.
They heard movement behind the door and Jay nodded at Antonio to kick the door down. Y/n watched as the two detectives rushed into the apartment, guns raised before a man came into figure, trying to climb out the window. Jay was quicker, grabbing him before he jumped, while Antonio moved to the bed where another girl lay, bounded up. She screamed as the blind was removed only for Antonio to flash his badge, silencing her. Y/n watched in amazement as Jay handcuffed the guy and brought him out. She shivered as he turned his face to her, and he snarled at her before Jay pulled him away from her. Antonio came out with the victim and turned to y/n, patting her on the shoulder before walking down the stairs.
Outside y/n seen a squad car pull up and a black jeep behind them. She stopped when she seen Kelly running out of the drivers seat, still in gear from their previous call. She allowed him to wrap his jacket and arms around her, before clinging to him as she cried. Kelly hushed her as he rocked her, kissing her forehead before looking at the squad car, glaring at the man in the back seat.
“Y/n, we may need to speak to you again. Catching him in the act is a near guarantee for time.” Jay stated, walking to the fireman and girl. “Does she need to do anything?” Kelly asked, rubbing y/n’s back gently. “A rape kit would be beneficial for evidence.” Jay stated, looking at y/n. “We can go to med now if you want. I can ask April to run it.” Kelly advised, looking down at y/n. “Do we have to do it now?” Y/n asked, looking from Kelly to Jay. “The longer you leave it the less likely the evidence will be accurate.” Jay explained, nodding his head. “Ok.” Y/n sighed, nodding at the two men. “Let’s go.” Kelly sighed, kissing head before guiding her to his car.
-------------
Kelly leaned against the wall outside the room where April had brought y/n. She had called for Natalie to do the examination, but had promised Kelly that she would stay by the young Caseys side for the duration of the exam. The fireman breathed heavily as he rubbed his forehead before looking up when he heard footsteps approach him.
“How is she?” Casey asked, stopping in front of Casey. “I don’t know Casey, scared of what’s to come, heartbroken that her brother didn’t believe her.” Kelly snapped at Casey, and Casey sighed before leaning on the wall beside Kelly. “I know, I feel bad. I took my frustrations out on her.” Casey sighed, head down in defeat. “How could I imply that she lied about being kidnapped, and raped. What kind of brother am I?” Casey exclaimed, throwing his arms out in frustration. “The type who made a mistake. But you’re here for her now. That’s what matters.” Kelly sighed, not wanting to argue with Casey. “Can we see her?” “April and Natalie are doing a rape kit on her. Than she should be good to go.” Kelly explained, and Casey nodded. “Thanks Kelly.” Casey stated. “For what?” Kelly asked, confused. “Believing her.”
Kelly didn’t have time to answer when the door to y/ns room opened and Natalie walked out, April following with a bag in hand. The doctor looked at the two firemen before nodding at them.
“You can go into her now. She’s a little fragile at the minute, these kits take a lot out of victims so be careful with her. She’s good to go when she’s ready.” Natalie explained. “Thanks.” Kelly smiled softly at the women before walking into the room, Casey following slowly behind.
Y/n was sat on the side of the bed, arms around herself as she looked out the window beside her. She turned slightly when she heard the door open, and looked down when she seen Matt behind Kelly. Kelly smiled softly as he moved to sit beside her, offering his hand to her.
“You ok?” He asked as y/n accepted his hand, rubbing his thumb against her knuckles. “I want this over with.” Y/n stated. “I know. And it will be, soon.” Kelly stated, bumping into her slightly. “I think I know what I want to do when I graduate.” Y/n stated, looking at Kelly. “What’s that?” Casey asked, moving his head to the side. “A detective. I want to help people find justice for the crimes against them.” Y/n explained and Casey nodded with a slight smile. “I think, you’ll make a great detective.” Casey nodded, frowning when y/n looked away from him. “I’m sorry I didn’t believe you. I had a bad case, I should of never took it out on you.” Casey explained, moving to be in front of his sister. “It hurt me when you said I was lying. I didn’t think you would say that to me.” Y/n explained, and Casey looked down. “I know I’m sorry. I should of known you would never make something like that up.” Casey stated, shifting in his feet. “Do you believe me now?” Y/n asked, afraid of the answer. “I think I always believed you, I just didn’t want it to be true so acted on impulse with denial.” Casey explained, placing a hand on y/n’s shoulder. “I think that would be an accurate assumption.” Y/n nodded, before moving to wrap her arms around Casey’s waist. “Come on, let’s head to the firehouse, we still have a shift to finish.” Casey smiled, wrapping his arms around y/n and kissing her head. “Can I stay there tonight?” Y/n asked. “Absolutely.” Casey nodded, moving to allow y/n to step up. “I’m sure the gang are looking to see you.” Kelly stated. “Yea, Kelly here left in such a rush didn’t even explain to them what was happening.” Casey exclaimed, nodding his head to Kelly. “I was more concerned about y/n.” Kelly defended himself. “Thanks Kelly. Where would I be without you?” Y/n smiled, leaning into Kelly’s side. “I wonder the same thing.” Case smiled, knowing that he would of never known his sister if it wasn’t for Kelly. “I’m just your night in shining armor.” Kelly joked, flexing his arm causing y/n to giggle and Casey to shake his head.
warnings: Brief mention of rape, kidnapping
Kelly sat in his office, going over some paperwork as he waited to hear the door to Casey’s office open up. It had been awhile since y/n had arrived to firehouse and seeing her distraught figure, Kelly worried about the girl. He knew that Casey wouldn’t deal with y/n calmly, but he also couldn’t overstep Casey when it came to parenting y/n. Sure he was partly a guardian for y/n, but Casey was her brother, she lived with her and he practically raised her. He moved to his office door when he heard Casey’s open, and frowned when he heard Casey snapping at y/n before y/n appeared out the door, her head hung low as she walked away. He glanced at Casey who shook his head before walking back into the office.
“What the hell happened? Why were you shouting at her?” Kelly asked Casey as he walked into Caseys office. “Making up a story about where she was. I don’t tolerate that.” Casey spoke out. “Well what she say?” “That she was kidnapped. Which is impossible cause she wouldn’t be here if she was.” Casey stated, causing Kelly’s mouth to fall open. “Casey I get we had a bad case, but don’t take it out on y/n. Why would she lie about something as serious as that. Get yourself together.” Kelly snapped before leaving to go find y/n.
Y/n sat outside the firehouse, her knees pulled up to her face as she wrapped her arms around them, crying into them. She tried to make herself small as she shivered in the cold, hoping to be invisible to passerby’s. Her luck ran out as she heard footsteps approach her, and she flinched as she seen them stop in front of her, before a blanket was felt being wrapped around her.
“Thanks.” She muttered, looking up to see Kelly in front of her with a smile. “Well, can’t have my mini mi getting sick from the cold. It’s freezing out here.” Kelly remarked, zipping up his jacket before moving to sit beside y/n. “You want to tell me what’s going on?” He asked, bumping shoulders with y/n to get her to look up. “You wouldn’t believe me.” She mumbled, pulling the blanket closer to her body. “I’ll believe you any day.” Kelly stated, rubbing his hands together before placing them in his pockets. “Your cold.” Y/n remarked, changing subject. “The jacket will keep me warm.” Kelly stated, “Casey told me you were kidnapped? What happened?” He asked, trying to pry details off her. “I was walking to my friend’s house, we were meant to have a sleepover. Casey let me head over on my own.” Y/n explained before looking down to take a deep breath. “Y/n,” Kelly spoke, placing a hand on y/n’s knee before moving away when she flinched. “Sorry.” Y/n apologized, seeing the hurt on Kelly’s face. “It’s ok.” Kelly smiled in comfort. “I took the short cut, down an alley way. There’s never anyone there so I walked quickly to get out of it. This car drove by, I didn’t think anything of it until he stopped just in front of me. I hesitated to walk by when I see he wasn’t moving or getting out, before deciding to go quicker by him. But just as quickly as I passed him the door opened, and I was grabbed from behind.” Y/n stopped as tears built up, and Kelly frowned as he seen y/n so upset, “They put their hand over my mouth, refusing to let me move my head before throwing me into the car. I tried to fight him but he pushed me over to get in beside me before blindfolding me. He had a gun Kelly, I had to do what he told me to.” Y/n cried, bringing her hands up to her face as she sobbed. “Please y/n, tell me he didn’t.” Kelly begged, watching the young girl sob beside him. “He drove somewhere before bringing me to some stairs. I think it was some abandoned apartment because it smelt musty. He brought me to a bed and tied me to the ends.” Y/n moved to show Kelly her wrists, and Kelly moved to grab them lightly. “The next I knew he was on top of me, and all I could smell was his stale breath before it was over.” Y/n cried out, watching as Kelly traced the marks on her wrists. “Y/n, how did you?” Kelly asked, not wanting to finish the sentence. “I waited till I thought he was asleep. When he..” Y/n stopped short, not wanting to say it, and Kelly nodded, knowing what she meant, “the ties must of became loose. I slid my wrists out of them and waited, before I took a chance.” “Y/n.” Kelly sighed, not sure what to say. “See nobody believes me.” Y/n cried, moving away from kelly as she wrapped her arms around herself. “Hey, hey y/n, it’s okay. I believe you.” Kelly spoke, moving to put a hand on y/n’s shoulder. “Your just saying that.” Y/n breathed. “No y/n, I do. I just don’t know what to say to help you.” Kelly explained, rubbing her shoulder gently. “Just being here helps.” Y/n sniffed, rubbing her nose in the blanket around her. “Come on out of the cold, I’ll get you a hot chocolate and we can call Jay to come so you can give a statement.” Kelly spoke, standing up and offering a hand to y/n. “Nobodies gonna believe me.” Y/n mumbled, allowing Kelly to pull her up. “I believe you, and I know Jay will take it seriously.” Kelly comforted her, wrapping an arm around her.
Y/n sighed and eased herself into Kelly’s side. Kelly rubbed a hand up and down y/n’s arm as they walked back into the warm building, guiding her into the canteen before heading to his office with the hot chocolate, and y/n lay on Kelly’s bed as he called Jay, sipping her hot chocolate as she stared into space.
---
It didn’t take long for Jay to show up to the firehouse with Antonio. The firefighters I the canteen looked at the two detectives in confusion as they made their way through the canteen and towards Kelly’s office. Dawson called out to her brother as she seen him go by, but he ignored her as Kelly opened the door, shaking Jays hand in thanks.
“I thought it would just be you.” Kelly spoke as he closed the door to his office. “It’s procedure to have two of us when taking a statement. Where’s Casey?” Jay asked, glancing at y/n who was curled up with her hands wrapped around the mug of hot chocolate. “In his office.” Kelly stated. “Can you get him? We can’t question her without him present.” Antonio explained. “no, please don’t.” Y/n begged, causing the three men to look at her. “I’m a legal guardian for her, can I sit in?” Kelly asked the two, and Antonio looked at jay who shrugged. “All you have to do is sit there. If you think the questioning gets too much for her, you tell us to stop.” Jay explained, looking at Kelly with a warning look.
Kelly nodded and looked at y/n before moving to sit beside her. He tapped her knees to tell her to sit up and took the mug from her hand to place it on the desk. Jay took the seat and moved it in front of y/n while Antonio leaned against the desk, allowing Jay to lead the questions. Kelly bit his lip to stop talking as he listened to y/n go in dept with the case.
“Do you know what he looked like?” Jay asked, looking at y/n as she wiggled in discomfort. “I didn’t get to see him.” Y/n looked down. “Your telling us for the duration of your escape, you didn’t see him at all.” Antonio remarked. “Well I wanted to get out, I didn’t think to look back, I just had to get away before he woke up.” Y/n explained, straightening her back. “And he didn’t follow you when you got out?” Antonio implied, and Kelly glared at him. “I heard a car but I just ran to hide so he didn’t see me.” Y/n explained, panicking slightly. “Antonio.” Kelly stated, and Jay held his hand up. “All part of the questioning Kelly.” Jay spoke, smiling at y/n with sympathy. “Do you know where he took you?” Antonio sighed, crossing his arms. “Some musty apartment. It had steps, multiple stairs.” Y/n explained and Jay sighed. “Y/n, you do realize that there is very little information to go on.” Jay explained, and y/n sighed. “You don’t believe me.” Y/n sighed, looking down as Kelly sighed in frustration. “In order to make a plausible case we need more information y/n, I’m sorry but we can’t help you if we’ve nothing to go on.” Jay explained, closing his notebook as he watched y/n. “So she just lives knowing her attacker is out there.” Kelly stated, not liking the answer. “There’s nothing we can do. She doesn’t have a description of anything vital.” Antonio explained as Jay stood up, moving for the door. “I remember the turns. I wasn’t set belted so I was thrown in all directions. It was a dark blue car with a broken brake light.” Y/n shouted quickly, causing Jay to stop in his place. “Do you know the redge?” Antonio asked. “No.” Y/n bit her lip. “If you know the direction I can bring you around the block.” Jay suggested. “Jay you know we…” “Take this as my break.” Jay said to Antonio before indicating for y/n to follow him. “Can you come with?” Y/n asked Kelly before the alarm went off. “I’ll be here when you get back.” Kelly said, kissing y/n’s head before rushing off. “Jay.” Antonio warned. “What’s the worse that can happen?” Jay asked, holding the door for y/n.
Y/n moved out to the front of the house and caught eyes with Casey who watched her walking out with Jay. He frowned as she got into Jays car, wondering what was going on.
Warnings: Kidnapping and Rape implied *no details*
Y/n Casey was raised by her aunt since she was born. Matt never knew his little sister existed till she was saved by Kelly in a house fire. Matt and his aunt had rarely seen each other, which meant that y/n had never met Casey, yet when Kelly seen the 5 year old girl, he instantly thought she looked a lot like the lieutenant. Y/n had clung to squads Captain after he had brought her to safety, and refused to leave Severide while Brett and Dawson tried to look her over. When it was time to take y/ to med for evaluation, Kelly winded up travelling with them at the back of the ambulance, with the young girl falling asleep on his chest on the way. The captain grew soft for the girl sleeping in his arms, and he knew he wouldn’t be able to leave this call behind. His thoughts were proven as his heart pulled at y/n’s screams as he went to leave her. She only let him leave when he gave her his beanie, with the promise of coming back after shift.
Thankfully young y/n had winded up with only small amounts of smoke inhalation, and was left in the hospital overnight before being discharged. Unfortunately, her aunt wasn’t so lucky, and she winded up dying three days later in the hospital. With no one else in the young girls life, y/n, had to be left to the system ,where she would either be adopted or fostered. Kelly had held her when he was told the news, and as he held her as she cried, something in him didn’t want her to be taken to the system, so he asked April to do some blood tests to see if there were any matches on the systems. Convincing the nurse was easy due to her having a soft place for kids, and after a quick run to the lab, they found out that the 5 year old was a match to Matt.
Matt was shocked when he was told he had a little sister, and went to confront his mother who admitted to having another baby after she murdered her husband. She had found out after being sentenced to prison and knew that prison was no place to raise a baby. Matt was hurt that his mother never told him or his sister, so decided to visit the young girl to know her. With him being a practical stranger to the young girl, he brought Kelly with him, who had been visiting the young girl on his own time.
"Kelly." The young girl shouted in delight, running over to the firefighter. "Hey, kid, how are you?" Kelly smiled, squatting down to allow y/n to run into his arms before picking her up, her legs wrapping around her waist as she perched on his front. She giggled before seeing the stranger who was standing beside him, shying into Kelly's shoulder slightly. "Y/n, this is Matt, he works with me." Kelly introduced Matt to the young girl and Matt smiled softly at the girl, "Matt, this is y/n." "Hi there." Matt smiled, waving slightly at the girl. "Y/n, Matt needs to talk to you about something important okay?" Kelly stated, looking down at the girl who kept her head on his shoulder. Y/n nodded and moved as Kelly sat down on her temporary bed before sitting on his lap, and Matt crouched in front of them. "Y/n I know you don't know me but I am your brother. My aunt, the woman who you believed is your mommy, took you in after you were born. I didn't know about you until now. And if it's okay, I would like to take you in and care for you." Matt tried to not overwhelm the 5 year old as she looked at him with confusion. "I have a brother?" Y/n asked innocently, looking at Matt before moving her head up to look at Kelly. "Yeah, and Matt wants you to go home with him. Are you okay with that?" Kelly spoke, nodding his head. "Will I see you again?" She whimpered, tears building in her eyes. "Sure will Kid. Can't get rid of me that easily." Kelly joked, poking her side so she would giggle. "You can see him whenever you like. And you can meet the rest of firehouse if you like." Matt explained, wanting the girl to be comfortable around him.
And with that, y/n moved in with her brother. It was rocky at first, with y/n being so shy around him and avoiding him whenever Kelly was around. Kelly had signed on as her second guardian, but slowly she warmed up to her brother and Casey quickly grew into the parenting roll. With the help of firehouse 51, the lieutenant managed to raise the young girl into the young woman she was today, though Casey and y/n’s relationship neve grew quite as close as Kelly and her, but Casey wasn’t okay with that as he knew Kelly would always watch out for the girl.
--
Kelly leaned against squads truck, watching for a certain 17 year old to come walking in with her brother. It was a weekend, and with Casey’s 24hr shift, the girl often came to hang out with the firehouse squad so she wasn’t alone all day. It wasn’t uncommon for y/n to wind up falling asleep in Kelly or Caseys office, but ultimately Casey allowed her the freedom to stay at their apartment on her own at night, provided she texted him when she arrived home. Generally the morning before their shift y/n would text Kelly, but having not heard from the Casey girl, Kelly was anxious to see her. Yet his attention was drawn to the truck that pulled up across from the road, only one head in view.
“Where’s y/n Casey?” Kelly called out to the Lieutenant as he walked across the road. “She’s not been home. Stayed with friends last night.” Casey stated, holding the strap of his bag over his shoulder. “You not collect her on the way? I haven’t heard from her all morning.” Kelly asked, crossing his arms over his chest as Casey stopped in front of him. “Geez Kelly, relax. She’ll be here soon. You worry too much.” Casey chuckled lightly as he hit Kelly’s shoulder in a joking way. "Well it isn’t like her to not text.” Kelly defended himself. “I appreciate your concern for her, but trust me, she’s fine. Time gets away from her when she’s with friends.” Casey smiled, placing a hand on Kelly’s shoulder before looking up as the bell went off before the two rushed off.
-----
The call had winded up with a bad outcome. An abandoned house where teens had parties had winded up catching on fire, and there had been multiple casualties, three had been found charred, with 8 winding up in hospital with serious injuries. Intelligence were treating this as a party gone wrong, with evidence of multiple flammable options being found after examining the scene. Each firefighter hung their heads as they arrived back to 51, and Boden called a meeting to check up on everyone.
Kelly and Casey opted to head outside to smoke a cigar after the case. It was midday when they were sitting on top of firehouse 51, and Kelly looked down the street to see a figure slowly walking towards them, arms folded as they hunched over themselves. Y/n was yet to turn up, so Kelly stood up, hoping to see y/n’s face. He hit Caseys chest when she recognized the girl, before moving to get down from the roof, meeting y/n halfway.
“Y/n where the hell were you?” Casey snapped before Kelly had a chance to open his mouth. “With friends.” Y/n muttered, avoiding the two men’s vision. “That was last night. You told me you’d be here by the time shift starts. Yet you rock up after lunch, what’s up with that?” Casey spoke harshly, and Kelly glared at him. Casey please.” The young girl pleaded, moving around them to head into the house. “No y/n, where were you?” Casey pushed, grabbing y/n’s arm harshly. “Hey, Casey, stop.” Kelly interfered when he seen y/n flinch away from her brother. “Get off me.” Y/n pleaded, pulling her arm away from her brother. “No, y/n, tell me where you were.” “I wasn’t at friends last night.” Y/n muttered, causing Kelly and Casey to look at her. “I’m sorry?” Casey questioned with a raised eyebrow. Y/n looked at Kelly slightly, and his eyes softened as he seen her broken sight. “Kelly, leave us be while I talk to my sister.” Casey stated to his fellow firefighter who took a glance between the siblings before leaning to Casey. “Go easy, listen to her before snapping.” Kelly warned Casey before moving to y/n, wrapping an arm over her shoulders and kissing her head before leaving the siblings be. “Kelly.” Y/n whispered. “My office y/n.” Casey spoke harshly, stepping out of the way for y/n to go first.
---------------------
“You gonna tell me where you were?” Casey asked his sister once he closed the door. “I dunno if I can.” Y/n muttered, causing Casey to sigh and rub his forehead. “Y/n I am tired okay. We’ve had a bad case and I am not in the mood for cat and mouse. SO just tell me where you are alright. It’s that easy.” Casey stated harshly, swinging his arm out, causing y/n to flinch. “no.” Y/n whimpered, flinching back at her brothers harsh movements. “Enough of the flinching. Where were you?” Casey snapped, rolling his eyes at his sisters antics. “Stop.” Y/n begged, tears welling up in her eyes. “I was kidnapped.” Y/n muttered, yet Casey heard it. “Don’t lie to me.” Casey snapped. “I’m not.” Y/n cried. “The truth y/n.” “I was kidnapped, I was raped Why won’t you believe me?” Y/n cried out, covering her face with her hands. “Cause if you were kidnapped, you wouldn’t be here.” Casey explained, moving closer to his sister. “Matt please..” Y/n begged, crying harder. “Get out of my sight. Come back when you choose to tell the truth instead of some sick lies.” Casey spoke, opening the door to his office. “I’m telling the truth.” “Do you have any idea how many people go through what your insinuating y/n. I can’t believe you would make that up.” Casey spoke abruptly, causing y/n to look down in tears. Casey please.” Y/n begged, wanting her brother. “Now y/n.” Casey finished, pointing out the door for y/n to leave.
Y/n hung her head as she walked out of the office, ignoring the looks of Cruz and Hermann as they walked by Casey’s office.

Y/n sighed as she stared down at the white stick in her hand. Another negative. Y/n and her husband Kelly had been trying to start a family, the next step in their relationship after marrying 4 years ago. They had meet via y/n's father Hermann, and they had instantly met it off. Y/n worked as a receptionist in the fire department and that was where Kelly first seen y/n. He had voiced his interest on the than 24 year old but had soon be shut down when Hermann told him that she was his daughter. It was actually y/n who started the relationship, by asking Kelly out for drinks, where Kelly than fell for her.
The two had dated for 4 years before Kelly popped the question. Now the two were ready to start the next chapter in their lives, but it was proving to be more difficult than they thought.
Y/n looked up at Kelly to see his eyes red as he tried not to cry. Wanting to comfort her husband, she pulled away from him before getting up and standing in front of him, pulling him into a hug. Kelly wrapped his arms around her waist as the two held each other, letting their frustrations out. Trying to get pregnant wasn’t easy, which felt ironic with all the time before marriage they tried to prevent an unplanned pregnancy. Kelly was always unsure of if he wanted kids, he didn’t exactly have a role model of a father to look up to, but that changed when y/n would often rope him into watching her siblings with her. Y/n had always smiled watching Kelly with her kid siblings, dreaming of the day they had their own.
“No luck.” Kelly voiced, eyeing his wife as she walked back out of the bathroom with the stick in hand.
“No.” Y/n spoke, tears filling her eyes as Kelly sighed in disappointment. “I’m sorry.” She stated, looking down as she sat beside him on the bed.
“Hey, why are you sorry. It’s not your fault.” Kelly stated, throwing an arm over her shoulder before kissing her head and leaning against her.
“But what if it is. What if I can’t have kids. Kelly all I’ve ever wanted was to be a mom but now..”
“Hey, it’ll happen. We’ll have our little one.” Kelly spoke, wrapping both arms around her, pulling her towards him.
Y/n sighed as she leaned on her husband’s chest.
“It’s been nearly a year Kel, maybe it’s not meant to be.” Y/n spoke, allowing a few tears to shed.
“I know.” Kelly sighed, bringing a hand up to wipe his eyes.
---
“Maybe we should explore other options, get help, support.” Kelly spoke after a few minutes of them being silent in each other’s presence.
“Like adoption?” Y/n asked as they pulled away, playing with Kelly’s hair.
“I was thinking of going to a fertility clinic. But if you want to go down adoption I’m all for that.” Kelly smiled weakly, kneading his thumb into y/n’s waist as he held them.
“I always wanted a child of my own, but I also always thought it would be easy to happen.” Y/n explained, looking Kelly in the eye.
“I know it’s not easy to go down that route, but we’re both exhausted y/n. We’ve been trying for so long, let’s take a break, spend time on us, organize a meeting with someone. See how it goes.” Kelly spoke, leaning his forehead on hers.
“Yea.” Y/n sighed, allowing Kelly to peck her lips.
“Come on, let’s head to work.” Kelly sighed, patting her sides before gently pushing her away from him as he stood up.
“Lonely bed tonight.” Y/n sighed in mock disappointment.
“Hey, at least your bed is comfy. Single beds are not great for a married man who’s used to his wife by his side.” Kelly smirked, pulling y/n to his side after grabbing his duffel bag.
“Seemed pretty comfy to me that one time.” Y/n smirked as she teased her husband with a wink.
“Behave.” Kelly scolded her, elbowing her away from him as they made their way to the front door.
Y/n stretched as she sat up from her desk two weeks later. Kelly and her were finishing work early to get out to meet the fertility clinic. The plan was to have their first consult, and the couple would go through an examination each to see where they were. They had chosen to keep their plans to themselves, not wanting Kelly’s co- workers to ask too many questions. There had been teasing among them when Kelly said they were leaving early, and Hermann had badgered his daughter, asking her what was going on. He had seen how tired the two were, and worried about the two, having started seeing Kelly as an extra son when he started dating his daughter.
------
“You’d tell me if there was something wrong, right?” He had asked y/n when she entered the kitchen for a coffee that morning.
“Dad, stop worrying. Everything is A okay.” Y/n smiled, kissing her father’s cheek.
“You look tired.” He noted, eyeing her weary eyes.
“I’m not a morning person, you should know that.” Y/n smirked over her mug before taking a sip of her coffee.
“Uhuh.” Hermann sighed, taking the mug from y/n to set it down before pulling her into a hug, y/n meeting Kelly’s eyes over her father’s shoulder.
Kelly meet y/n at the cock pit of 51, leaning against squad’s truck as he looked out. Y/n had laughed a little at the sight, remembering all the times they had spent kidding behind that truck when they first started dating. Kelly pulled her into a hug as she got in front of him, before taking her bag from her as they walked to y/n’s car. It was silent as they drove to the clinic. Y/n and Kelly had a habit of playing with their rings when they were nervous, and if anyone seen them copying each other in the waiting room, they surely would of laughed.
The meeting was short, with the nurse explaining what was going to happen and the steps that may be possible. She explained that with y/n being a young, healthy woman, IVF was a possible choice. The couple were soon brought to separate rooms for their physical, and then it was a waiting game. Y/n was a nervous wreck for the week long wait, and the duo became quiet around everyone, worrying them to no end. But than their meeting came around, and Kelly and y/n held hands as they waited in the office for their doctor to sit down, file in hand.
---
“Mr and Mrs Severide, how are you both feeling?” The doctor smiled at them, seeing how nervous they are.
“Anxious to know our results.” Y/n spoke, looking at Kelly before looking at the woman in front of them.
“Well I’m happy to confirm that I am happy with the way you both are. Kelly your sperm quantity and hormone levels are up to the standard for fertilization. Y/n, your egg quality and quantity seem normal for a woman your age, your hormone levels are good, ultrasound and x- ray came back clear. You are both healthy individuals. A perfect candidate for IVF treatment.” The doctor smiled and the couple looked at each other, a watery smile on their faces.
“If everything is how they are expected, why aren’t we able to conceive ourselves?” Y/n asked, disheartened at the news.
“Sometimes there is no explanation to why someone can’t conceive naturally. But there is no shame in not being able to. Y/n, you are a healthy individual, and sometimes the body just needs a helping hand, and that’s okay. There’s nothing wrong with you y/n, just because you struggle to conceive.” The doctor smiled sadly, and Kelly squeezed her hand with a soft smile.
“What happens now?” Kelly asked.
“I’m not going to lie. The next few weeks are going to be tough, there may be some disappointments along the way. Y/n will go through a series of treatments to prepare her body for the extraction of her eggs. From there we will fertilize them. Once we know how many fertilized, we can then go through the process of embedding the egg into y/n’s womb, from there it’s a waiting game.” The doctor explained, and y/n looked at Kelly.
“What are the chances of this working?” Y/n asked.
“Unfortunately I cannot give a definite answer to that. Everyone is different. And it’s important that you don’t compare yourself to other people’s experience. Focus on your own, how many rounds you do is up to you. We go at your pace.”
“Okay, when can we start?” Y/n breathed, and Kelly smiled as he wrapped an arm over her shoulder.
The following few months were tiring. Y/n would take her injections, but with her fear of needles, Kelly would help her with them. During work, y/n would go into Kelly’s office and he would keep her injections in a mini fridge in his office. The daily injections were daunting, but it became apart of their routine, and the results were what they thought of, even with the discomfort of y/n’s abdomen.
Y/n sighed and looked around to see the firemen that surrounded them before nodding her head for her dad to follow her, which he did. She didn’t say anything till they got to Kelly’s office, and she opened the door, letting her father in first before closing it behind them. Kelly looked up in confusion at the father daughter duo.
“Hey y/n, you ok?” Hermann asked his daughter one day as she held her stomach slightly.
“Yea dad I’m fine.” Y/n stated, getting a glass of water.
“Are you in pain, I can get Brett to look you over if you like.”
“No dad, it’s fine, stop worrying.” Y/n sighed, getting annoyed.
“What’s up with you lately? Your not yourself lately.”
“Dad..”
“No y/n, please talk to me. I’m your father, it’s my job to look out for you. Is there something going on between you and Kelly because..”
“Oh my God dad stop. Me and Kelly are fine. It’s just..”
“What is it?” Hermann asked softly, placing a hand on y/n’s shoulder.
---
“What’s going on?” Kelly asked, looking between the two.
“We have to tell him Kelly, he’s annoying me with his pestering.” Y/n sighed, looking at her husband while hearing Hermann mutter.
“Sorry for caring about my daughter.” Hermann muttered, and y/n smiled slightly as she kissed his cheek before sitting on Kelly’s bed.
“Come sit.” Y/n smiled, patting the space beside her.
“What you have to tell me?” Hermann asked softly, looking between his daughter and son in law.
“Y/n and I have some news. But don’t over react about it.” Kelly stated, and gave Hermann a look as he went to object.
“Fine.” Hermann said, shaking his head slightly.
“Kelly and I, we’re ready to take the next step in our relationship.” Y/n spoke, looking at her father as he made a look of slight disgust, “But it’s been hard.” She looked at Kelly to continue.
“We weren’t able to get pregnant naturally, so we decided to get some advice. We went through some tests and went through our options.” Kelly stated.
“We’re going through IVF at the minute.” Y/n spoke, and Hermann looked at y/n.
“Oh sweetie, why didn’t you tell me or your mum.” Hermann spoke, placing an arm around his daughter.
“It’s been hard dad. Every negative test made us feel like something was wrong. And it was so hard to accept that it wasn’t going to happen ourselves. I didn’t want to admit that.” Y/n spoke, and Hermann sighed, bringing y/n into a hug.
“So, what’s happening now?” Hermann asked, still holding his daughter in his arms.
“At the minute y/n’s taking injections, than when the course if finished hopefully, with some examinations, she’ll be ready for egg extraction. They’ll fertilize her eggs and then we find out how many eggs we have. Hopefully.” Kelly added at the end.
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Just being here is enough dad.” Y/n spoke, feeling Hermann kiss her head.
“I’m here for you, for both of you.” Hermann spoke, reaching over y/n’s head to put a hand on Kelly’s shoulder.
“Thanks Hermann.” Kelly smiled.
A few months later y/n had gone through her extraction and was on her way to the center. She had received a call yesterday that 4 out of 10 of her eggs had fertilized, and once she hit ovulation they would implant it in her uterus to see if it would stick. Kelly was beside her, holding her hand as they drove to the center. They had booked the two days off work so y/n had no stress.
Kelly sat in the waiting room while y/n went through her implantation. He couldn’t stop fiddling with his ring, even after the doctor told him he could go in. He tried not to laugh at y/n’s grogginess, seeing her sleepy state made her smile. He kissed her head before holding her hand, listening as the doctor explained how the next few weeks would go. There would be a 14 day wait before they would know if they fertilized embryo stuck. She advised them not to take an at home pregnancy test before sending them home, telling y/n to relax and not stress too much.
The 14 days flew by, and the day of the test came by, with y/n feeling anxious. She held a tight grip on Kelly’s hand as she got her blood drawn, and then the waiting begun. Squad were on call when y/n received the call, and her father was sitting beside her at her desk when her phone rang.
“Hello?” “It is.” “Okay.” “uhuh” “okay” “Thank you.”
“What is it?” Hermann asked her daughter, seeing the look on her face.
“It’s the clinic.” Y/n stated, and Hermann sat up straight as he looked around.
“I’m here for you.” He stated when he seen no one around, taking y/n’s hand and rubbing his thumb against her knuckles.
Y/n’s controlled voice did nothing to control Hermanns nerves. She tightened the grip on his hand as the call went on, and he dreaded the worse. During the call he had heard squad pulling back in, and Kelly soon arrived at the door. Seeing his father in law holding his wife’s hand, he raised a brow, but held his breath when he seen y/n on the phone.
Y/n looked down as she hung up the phone, before looking up, her eyes on Kelly. Kelly couldn’t read her face as she walked away from her father and towards him. Wrapping his arms around her, he kissed her cheek when he felt her shake.
“Shh.” He comforted her, thinking it was bad news as Hermann looked down.
“Better get used to being called daddy.” Y/n mumbled in his ear, and Kelly froze.
“Are you??” He asked, pulling away from her.
“Uhuh.” She smiled widely, nodding her head.
“Oh my God.” He laughed loudly, lifting her up as she squealed in excitement.
“I can’t believe it, it isn’t real.” Y/n spoke teary eyed, cupping Kelly’s face as tears built up in his own.
“This is amazing.” He laughed, allowing the tears to fall as y/n wiped them away with her thumbs. “I’m going to be a dad.”
“I’m going to be a mum.” She stated, “Your going to be a granddad.” Y/n spoke, turning to her father who watching the interaction between the two with tears in his eyes.
“I am so happy for you two.” Hermann spoke, standing up to congratulate the two.
“What’s all this?” Boden asked, seeing two of his firemen crying and his receptionist between them, also in a similar mess.
“I’m going to be a grandpa.” Hermann blurted out, and y/n giggled when he looked at her guilty.
“Congratulations.” Boden smirked, shaking hands with Kelly before hugging y/n.
“Thanks Boden.” Y/n smiled, moving to wrap an arm around Kelly’s waist.
“I’m so happy right now.” Y/n mumbled, leaning her head on her husbands chest as the two men let them be.
“I love you.” Kelly smiled.
“I love you too.” Y/n smiled, leaning up to kiss Kelly.
