Percival "Percy" Rodrigez has tried his hardest his whole life to be the best son he can be. He gets straight "A"s, he's on the honor roll, he never gets in any trouble, and never brought anyone over that his single mother would disapprove of. Sure, he didn't really have friends, but did he need them? He was happy…. Until his mother's whirlwind romance and subsequent marriage to Moral Nightengale, a fae hybrid and principal of the titular Summit Highschool. A school created to cater to and solely teach hybrid students of all types. From a half mermaid-half naga, to the half bird-person-half elf. They all roam the halls. And now Percy will as well. Now the first full-blooded anything in the school's history, Percy must come of age way out of his element. Hounded by wild, and off-the-wall characters like his lab partner Zipper, or the library assistant Jack, or head cheerleader Valentine - Percy is just hoping to make it to homecoming alive.

Finally got around to actually drawing his ref like I promised. Meet the reoccurring character; Jack Geller!
Jack (Elf/Aarakocra hybrid - Freshman - He/Him) is the student assistant to the librarian at school, using on of his class hours and his after school time to help out the old bird. Most of the teachers and staff of school know Jack as a wonderful, helpful boy. If a bit sarcastic and could do better in classes.
The students of Hybrid High know him better, however.
Jack, truly, is the guy people go to in order to get homework done for them. Essays, research, worksheets- whatever you want done. Pay him in cash or favors, and he will make sure it is done to a degree that won’t arouse suspicion that someone else is doing the work for them. He leaves his own work terribly average- as to not arouse suspicion that he’s actually the one doing everyone’s work. No adult is the wiser, just thinking Jack is a popular kid to talk to so many.
He also is the “bookie” of the school goers, keeping track of bets and rumors- divvying out rewards as needed to the students involved. He skims a percentage off the top, but that’s to be expected of a bookie.
Jack is a quiet rebel, going against the grain of what people expect the “perfect” son of a cop to be in a private manner. If he was loud about it, there would be trouble... So he’s quiet. Helps others be loud in their enjoyment of rebellion. He hangs out a lot at friend’s houses over his single father’s home. He seems to dread the days he does end up at home....
Jack is a sickly kid, getting terribly ill easily and needing to walk with a leg brace to keep his right leg more stable. He wears fashionable masks in order to keep germs away from his mouth, and teachers and staff all know to be careful with the weak boy.
He is friends with Zipper. Well... Kinda friends? They’re besties really, but sometimes they kiss. It’s not romantic at all. More something for fun and stress relief. They both understand neither wants to take it further than that.

New Hybrid High kids! Mostly minor
Basil (Chimera Hybrid - He/Him - Junior). This guy is introverted and quiet. He doesn’t really talk to others outside his best friend, Buck. He runs track, and met Buck there during try outs when Buck was a freshman. Buck was the only guy who didn’t stare for his weird anatomy- but rather for his great running skills! Basil got into anime because of Buck, and is looking into making his own cosplays. Basil has a.... very big crush on Buck. But he just can’t say anything! Buck obviously just thinks of him as a friend, and he wouldn’t want to ruin their friendship. (Buck hasn’t really thought of him that way before, but would 100% date Basil if Basil just said something first) His parents are both Hyrbids themselves, and the composition of species in his blood include cartoon, aasimar, centaur, and atlantean.
Just Kidding (Oni/Myconid Hybrid - She/Her - Senior). Zipper’s older foster sister. Just Kidding has been in two other foster homes before being shoved into this one. Because of this, Just Kidding doesn’t see this as a permanent home. Even if she loves her other foster siblings to bits, she knows she’ll probably just be shoved to another home. Or, soon enough, the streets once she turns 18. She knows the system and how it works, even if this foster home touts that she will not be pushed to the street and has a home there so long as she needs one. Just Kidding refuses to get close to anyone except her foster siblings. Even then, she keeps them at an arms length. It’s only a matter of time. Just Kidding is really into tech and mechanics, and is usually tinkering with something or covered in oil.

Some new Hybrid High Students! One background, one minor, and one major! From left to right we have:
Celeste Sylvester (Slime/Ghost hybrid - she/her - Freshman). A goopy, shy little lady who doesn't really talk much., other than ghostly little "oooo" noises. Very small, and squishable.
Ostif Deuentys (Scarecrow/Gorgon hybrid - he/him - Freshman). The class president of the newest class to enter the school. Ostif is very laid back, relaxed, and doesn't really show a lot of the gumption that one would expect from the class president. But, he has been the class president since elections were first held in middle school for these kids. And, he oddly seems to get things done. People want to follow him, since he's kind and a bit silly. Ex-boyfriend to Valentine
Garnet "Valentine" Valentine (Aasimar/Mimic hybrid - he/him - Freshman). A straight-laced, no-nonsense honors student with a monotone, slightly annoyed attitudeand a penchant for the rules. Despite this all, this guy moonlights as the school mascot since the student who did it last graduated the year before. He enjoys it. Last summer, he and Ostif had a fling that ended once school came back into session. They've stayed close friends, however, despite the fact that Ostif's laid-back attitude annoys Valentine at times. Valentine is tasked with walking home with Percy every day after school.

(Sorry this took me a bit to answer, work has me bustin my ass 😪)
She does!
Zipper was put in a foster home with one other kid at the time. That kid was a little baby Buck.They grew up in the same foster, and consider each other siblings- even if Buck was adopted out in the 5th grade. They still saw a lot of each other at school, and made sure to keep in touch.
Currently, Zipper lives with three other foster kids; all hybrids like herself and Buck. They are:
Just Kidding - She/Her - Myconid/Oni Hybrid - 17 years old - A senior at hybrid high. Taught all those younger than her in the house everything she knows, and how to survive and cope with life in a foster home. Very much a loner. Loves to tinker with gadgets.
Ed - Any Pronouns - Slime/[UNDECIDED] Hybrid - 12 years old - Ed means well, but he's... well... not too bright. They don't pay attention well, and don't bother to try to catch up when they don't get something. She has her heads in the clouds constantly, and won't pull it out. Enjoys comics, and always talks the latest issue with friends.
Olive - She/Her - [UNDECIDED] hybrid - 5 years old - The newest addition to the home, she was forfeited to the foster system after her parent lost their rights to her. Smart.... Too smart, really. She'll point out things no one but you realizes about yourself. Kinda terrifying. The group all love and protect her as needed. Just entered the local kindergarten.
oh my gosh Zipper is so fucking CUTE. it says she's an unknown hybrid- why is that?
Zipper is an orphan. She was forfeited by an unidentified individual to a hospital, and scooped up by the system shortly after. They all thought maybe she was just a Nycter (a batfolk); but tests showed she had plenty of other races in there. It's highly likely her bio parents were hybrids themselves.
Some of the races in her blood include: Nycter, Cartoon, Gnome, and Triton

Drosden (Illithid/Drider hybrid - He/Him - Junior) is a pretty laid-back, token cishet dude (but like. good and nice). On the football team. Just kinda all around a relaxed dude who looks after the little guy.
Buck (Aarakocra/human hybrid - He/Him - Sophmore) is the school's star track runner. He's super into anime and Naruto runs everywhere. He’s a real “bro” guy and refers to everyone as “bro” or “dude”. You wanna watch this new isikei that came out, bro? Or you wanna talk about the latest issue of that one manga, dude? Grew up with Zipper and sees her as a little sister, even if he's since been adopted out of the foster home they grew up in.
Zipper (unknown hybrid/classified as a "chimera" - They/She - Freshman) is incredibly eccentric. They adore cryptozoology, and like talking about the logistics behind (silly- not actively harmful) conspiracy theories. Whether they actually believe these theories is up to debate. Currently living in a foster home that promises to keep her and her fellow fosters homed even after she ages out of the system. Zipper is partnered with Percy for a group project.

Gulliver Dirgefall (skeleton/dullahan hybrid - he/him); a former theater lit teacher who became the vice principal. Teacher supervisor to the gsa. Married to Hyacinth!
Hyacinth Dirgefall (tabaxi/satyr hybrid - he/him); the sign language teacher at school. Married to Gulliver!

A reminder of who these guys are cause I haven't posted about em in a while:
Percival "Percy" Hudson (first on left, upper row) (human - he/him) is a normal human about to head into high school when his single mother very suddenly remarries Moral Nightengale (not shown city fae/? hybrid - she/they). A principal at a high school that caters to specifically hybrid students. Those born of two different species parents. Percy must go through his awkward teen years in an unfamiliar, and frightening environment for someone who has been only been in all human environments his whole life.
During his time in the school, he eventually becomes familiar with a small group of students. (left to right after Percy) Turnip Daisymount (swamp fae/vampire hybrid - he/they), Dottingale Knives (cartoon/banshee hybrid - any pronouns), Cyraeni Pixose (naga/mermaid hybrid - they/them), upperclassman Bartholomew "Barbie" Harbor (kenku/goblin hybrid - he/him), upperclassman Sebastian Corrashell (bullywug/harpy hybrid - he/him), and upperclassman/student president of the gsa Marlowe Deadnettle (Hailosi/Cecaelia hybrid - he/him).
It's a coming of age story about growth and learning to accept people no matter what :^)
A very quick test comic for Hybrid High! This would be in the second "chapter" (if you count the prologue as a chapter), when Percy would first meet Cyraeni!

So yea. I’ve had these guys set aside for half a year now and FINALLY decided to line them. These two are very important staff members for the high school, being the Principal and Vice Principal respectively..... And one of them being Percy’s new step parent.
On the top we have Principal Moral Nighshade; A City Fae and.... No one’s sure. She is a hybrid, but no one really knows what of. She created the high school for hybrid children like herself many years ago, creating a safe space so children who were seen as different could be around others like them. She even set it up so on the first day students could get a pronoun pin so people knew how to identify them.
Moral used to work at a bar, for their boring summers and nights to be filled up. This is where they met a very worried-about-her-son Mrs. Hudson..... Their romance was private and whirwind, preparing to get married just over a year into their courtship. And, before Percy even met Moral.
Percy is highly suspicious of Moral and her intentions with his mother at first, as fae are regarded as dangerous and conniving by most humans. But, they become close and bond very well eventually.
Moral uses she/they pronouns, and is able to grow a beard. She’ll not shave it if it’s the weekend.
On the bottom, we have the very kind Vice Principal Gulliver Dirgefall! Widely beloved by the students, Gulliver is a chipper, friendly dullahan-skeleton hybrid who used to teach Theater Lit; where he would teach famous plays to his children. However, he quickly gained the vice principal position due to how beloved he is by all the staff, students, and parents.
He runs the Sexuality and Gender Alliance club at the school, and is a married gay man. Gulliver is a cis male and uses he/him pronouns
A couple more students for my hybrid high idea. I have some staff sketched but I wanna sketch one more and line and color em before I post em.
Bartholomew “Barbie” Harbor is a goblin/kenku hybrid upperclassman. He has always been very short, only ending up child sized. He gets in trouble a lot due to his temper and habit of threatening those who pose a danger to his boyfriend. Due to this, he doesn’t really have any friends other than his boyfriend. Barbie was adopted as a baby by two human lesbians and knows nothing about his biological parents.
Sebastian Jerimiah Corrashell is a bullywug/siren hybrid upperclassman. Sebastian is one of the most popular students in school. Everyone loves him. He’s one of the lead members of the school choir, is a member of the honor society, and has a large group of friends. None, however, are closer than his boyfriend Barbie. Barbie and Sebastian are childhood friends, living next door to each other since before they can remember. They promised when they were young that they’d stick together and marry one day no matter what, and it seems that promise will stick. Sebastian cannot vocalize in english, and only croaks. Instead. he uses a tablet to read out things he types for others (since he can’t really sign with his claws either).
Both Sebastian and Barbie are cis males and use he/him pronouns

Cyraeni is half naga half mermaid. They got more of their mermaid parent’s lower half muscles, meant for swimming and not movement on the ground. They also got a recessive deep sea mermaid trait, and were born blind. Cyraeni is a big teddy bear once you get to know them. Super kind and gentle to everyone. They are the star of the school’s non-competitive swim team.
Typically, the school would provide an aide for Cyraeni to get around with. However, Cyraeni’s tail has poisonous spikes and a poisonous stinger at the tip. Making Dottingale here the only one willing to cart Cyraeni around since she is immune to the poisons.
Dottingale is half cartoon character and half banshee. Her cartoon heritage makes them two dimensional- flat as paper. They can slip through the thinnest gaps and often gets things lost between walls for teachers. She also does not use her legs to walk. Instead, they sort of “slides” along the floor as if they were floating. But, her feet ae touching the ground. Dottingale can possess electronics at will, and will do so to get out of lectures to stop banshee shrieking at those who make fun of Cyraeni’s disabilities. Dottingale is autistic and has problems expressing herself. Dottingale prefers to eat with their stomach mouth and talk with their upper mouth.
These two are a couple, but never kiss in public.
Cyraeni is gender fluid and uses they/them pronouns and Dottingale is agender and has no preferences for pronouns. Most people use she or they for ol Dottie though.
I had this dream that actually gave me a really good concept for new characters
Percival “Percy” Peridot Hudson is your average human. The only child of a divorced mother, Percy is a smart child who has buried himself in his studies ever since his parent’s divorce at a young age. He pushes everyone away, and has very few friends. The friends he does have, aren’t terribly close to him either.
This changes when his mother very suddenly remarries a mysterious bachelor and they must move to a new neighborhood.
Percy is yanked from his comfortable, mundane life in the suburbs and placed into a new school. A school that only has hybrids. Half humans, half elves, half fae, etcetera. Many mixed fantasy races roam this school. And Percy just became the first human in the school’s history.
Percy must go through his high school years in this very odd school, having to unlearn stereotypes and stigmas humans have about various species.
He makes actually close friends during this time. One of which is the half swamp fae, half vampire Turnip Foxglove Daisymount. He teaches Percy to relax and let go of his need to be perfect at everything. Percy teaches Turnip that normal is okay sometimes.
Percy is a trans male who uses he/him pronouns and Turnip is a demiboy who uses he/they pronouns.
