I've had this idea for a while, of Zagreus corrupted and enslaved by Chronos being someone Mel has to fight. It was pure coincidence that I started actually drawing the idea just in time for the Olympus update to come out (which has no Zag for those waiting for the final release).

Zag is not a willing servant, he's been torn apart and reconstructed and forced to do Chronos' will. This is only possible bc Chronos flooded the Styx with his sand. Each time Zag was killed, he came back with more of Chronos' sand holding him together. Renewal of the Styx and time spent with/inside Nyx will reverse the corruption of his body, but not the time he spent suffering Chronos' conditioning.

Imagine odysseus first meeting zagreus, knowing only that he is an escapee prince trained/raised by achilles. And then he meets zag he's so. Pleasant. Endlessly forgiving. Even keeled. Hardly prone to anger at all. He literally has to ask like hey kid you sure you know achilles? Tall, blonde, great with a spear? Obsessed with his bf? And zags like yeah!!! That's my mentor!!! He told me a lot about you :D

I just know that this game is gonna feel so cathartic for my inner 3rd grade self who read Percy Jackson, and was absolutely fuming during the last Olympian

I will defend this design to the ends of the earth. Yes they’re hot, that’s merely a bonus.

1) that’s not a shirt that’s a fucking Galaxy under that suit. Mf has no body, just a vaguely body shaped void. Meaning floating head and hands that aren’t attached to anything. You take those clothes off and it’s the fucking void. They’re non binary AND sexless. Beyond any physical body, just shaped like it for fun.

2) the old bodies head dead in their hands and simultaneously birthing a foetus. That’s the circle of life, a rebirth, a metamorphosis. Chaos is above a god, they’re primordial. They don’t have a permanent appearance or identity. They’re ever changing. They look like this now, but if there were another game, they’d change again. They’re always changing, killing their old self and reshaping it. The wings have also moved and grown from the head to the back. Chaos expands indefinitely, bigger and unable to be contained in any way. They don’t even need wings, they can float. But they decided to have them anyway, just because. Because they can.

3) this is Ancient Greece. Suits don’t exist yet. Chaos took clothing from thousands of years in the future. They’re beyond time itself, they’re not effected by Chronos in any way. They’re in their own realm outside of time an space, they know things from the past, present and future.

4) the hair being the same colour as and long like many of their grandchildren, family resemblance there. Almost like they’re,,, missing them. Despite being this omnipresent being beyond human emotion, they still care in their own way. Copying them to feel some form of deeper connection.

5) the earth is an earring now. That’s how inconsequential it is to a being like chaos. It’s just there, an accessory, nothing special.

I could go on. Maybe I’m reading too deep into it but given the fact all the designs in the first and second games tend to have symbolism in them based on the myths the gods come from and what they represent, I don’t think I’m too insane for seeing symbolism here.

My acc is all over the place in terms of what I post rn but I don't really care so...

My thoughts on the Chaos redesign for Hades 2!!

I personally enjoy Chaos' new look, sure their more human appearing but I don't mind (I'm attracted to both the glob and the pretty humanoid, and I'm not even ashamed)

But I do understand the criticisms of this new design, Chaos is the embodiment of the void and creation so them being just a bunch of ambiguous gunk makes sense.

But I have a theory that because their the embodiment of creation they change their form every once in a while.

I think the new from is the fetus that's in both designs. It's smaller in the new because that from is newer and younger. The fetus grows over time and once the old body dies Chaos' consciousness is transferred to the new body once it's old enough (new Chaos is holding was is likely og Chaos' skull) and then that new body grows a fetus and the cycle repeats.

Also the two designs are very obviously not the same body - ones a bunch of gunk one is not, og Chaos is darker and has a different face shape - but they share enough characteristics for it to be believable that their the same person - bat like wings, the eye motifs, bright colors, ect.

And, they are the only character that has gotten such a major redesign (most just adding armor to their design) so there's likely a lore reason for Chaos' new look that we don't know yet because it's still in EA.

He is me and I am him, ok ok? But really, I adore Hypnos from the HADES games. He's so silly. I did this to celebrate seeing him in the second game, even though we can barely interact with him. :((

Idk what I was doing with my style here. I have difficulties with more stylistic art styles usually, but I do really like the doodles here.
