Recently done this piece for a secret santa event for Merfish Discord, with the recipient requesting Nikaido from Dorohedoro! They also requested bright colors, so it was a big tricky to do but a fun challenge!
2day i was digging up my pictures and found my old dorohedoro sorcerer oc! so i redrew her! she's a sorcerer that runs a barbershop in the sorcerors world, which calls in a lot of shady people unfortunately. anyone whos gone with any intentions of getting a free haircut is promptly killed, and i'd like to think she was a former hitman. has a duplicate barbershop in the hole that she runs, which is run by her partner. who knows what they may be like, though..? maybe she has a cool nickname like, "The wolf of Zagan City", or something?

I love how Dorohedoro and Made in Abyss (as well as Puella Madoka Magica) are in completely different spectrum compared their artistic styles.
Dorohedoro looks dark, grisly, twisted. Demons, blood, magic, dark magic, mad max-like aesthetic, and kink & horror aesthetic. And yet, everyone is pretty much a darling idiot. The main character is a big doofus sweetheart, there’s lots of comedy and many lovable dorks. They have a baseball playing man sized cockroach called Johnson because why not. It’s a very “general” adventure story that just looks very dark but is sweet and lighthearted. You might have seen this post:

Then we have Made in Abyss. Super cute looking, super adorable, the anime is colored brightly and the kids are so cute! How adorable! Except the story is one of the most twisted and darkest ones I’ve encountered. I was told “Watch Made in Abyss only if you can handle bad things happening to kids”. Oh boy, if that warning wasn’t in its place! I heard from someone here that the comic is even darker and more twisted than the anime - so much that the person telling me this was completely disgusted by it and said it ruined the whole series for them. It’s almost like “This can’t get any worse” and then it does :D While looking cute and super adorable.
As I mentioned, Puella Madoka Magica does this same. Just keeps getting worse and worse, like a nightmare, while looking like a series made for 8yo little girls:
What I want, all you young artists and people thinking you should do things way X because by some weird rules you’re “supposed to” do things X that way, to know this: BULLSHIT.
You want to make an adorable, lighthearted and funny story looking like a horror comic? Go for it!
You want to make super cute and kawaii looking series that is nothing but an agonizing nightmare where all the horrors of the world take place? Go for it!
Rules don’t bound you. Only you bound yourself.

I love Dorohedoro so much it’ll forever be my favorite manga ever. It has boobs. It has proletarian metaphor. It has trans women. It has buff women. It had queer allegory. It has time travel. It has urban fantasy. It has baseball. It has a giant bug named johnson. It has gay people. It has a villain with red hair. It has a girl with purple hair who keeps dying. It has gore. It has murder. It has skulls and tattoos. It has a doctor with cross-hatched tattoos all over his face. It has track suits. It has a blonde protagonist with a double life. Dorohedoro feels like it was made to specifically cater to me
every couple in dorohedoro is T4T. Nikaido and Kaiman? t4t. Noi and shin, haze and haru, chita and en, even fucking ebisu and fujita. especially aikawa and risu. this is such a trans manga. everyone’s trans.
