21. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Down with Love (2003)

21. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Down With Love (2003)

Genre: Comedy/Romance

Rating: PG-13

Director: Peyton Reed

Starring: Renée Zellweger, Ewan McGregor, Sarah Paulson, and David Hyde Pierce

Synopsis: Aspiring author, Barbara Novak, trades her small-town life for the Big Apple in order to promote her new book, "Down with Love." The book stirs up controversy with its message to help women achieve equality by saying no to love and yes to sex. When Catcher Block, resident playboy and New York's #1 journalist, is personally affected by this shift of the sexes, he plots to expose Barbara Novak as a fraud by getting her to fall in love with him.

Ewan Review: Ewan plays the character Catcher Block. Catcher is famous for being THE socialite of New York City. Women want him, men want to be him, and he's highly respected in his field as a journalist. Yes, life is perfect for him...until Barbara Novak shows up out of the blue and turns society on its head! His pride and reliance on the status quo can't bear to see this happen. So, he does what any logical man would do: wage a battle of the sexes! Ewan surprisingly speaks in his Scottish accent for this role! He also speaks in a southern accent which isn't any good, but I'm going to give him a pass this time because of the context. He has two shirtless scenes and LOTS of kissing scenes. I'm talking straight up making out, y'all. There are sex jokes galore and he gets to make his fair share of them. He doesn't have any sex scenes but he does have an implied erection scene. Lastly, he has a stellar song and dance number. His acting performance is incredible. I also just want to add that he is outlandishly handsome in this movie. I don't know how to explain it, especially because he's handsome in practically all his roles. He's a naturally handsome guy, but the way his attractiveness was amplified ten-fold in this movie did not go unnoticed by me. Please tell me if you understand what I'm talking about.

Screentime Percentage: Ewan is on screen for a grand total of 47/102 minutes making his SP 46%.

To Ewan or not to Ewan: Is the movie worth watching for Ewan in general? 1000% YES! Is it worth watching in general? Yes!

Where to Watch: "Down with Love" is available for rent on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Google Play Movies and TV. You can watch it for free on soap2day.

Closing Thoughts: This movie is an homage to the sex comedies of the 1960s and is played out like one. It takes place in 1962 and the way it transports the audience back to that time is nothing short of fantastic! The costumes, editing, set design, manner of speech, soundtrack, everything down to the last detail was dripping in nostalgia and it was a blast! I feel the need to stress though that this is a SEX comedy. It's about sex. It's all the characters talk about, it's the driving force of the movie, and dirty jokes/sexual innuendos are the foundation of it. Just think it over before popping it in for family movie night.

Calling all Alex Law Fans!

Calling All Alex Law Fans!

If you're a fan of Alex Law from Shallow Grave, I need your insight!

I had a riveting conversation with a moot last night about Alex. We discussed this snippet of Danny Boyle's interview about the movie:

Calling All Alex Law Fans!

So, I've always seen people talk about Alex being bisexual and I never knew why. Fun fact about me: I'm not good at recognizing sexuality 😅. Now, I'm curious! If you're in the "Alex is bisexual" camp and willing to talk my ear off about how you picked up on the signs, then consider this your invitation to jabber with me! 😁

P.S. I got the snippet from BOMB Magazine on Pinterest. Here's a link to the full interview: https://bombmagazine.org/articles/1995/04/01/sundance-danny-boyle/

SFW Alphabet: Catcher Block (Down with Love)

SFW Alphabet: Catcher Block (Down With Love)

shoutout to my bestie @hellsalad for being a listening ear, helpful guide when I got stuck, and general inspiration for me to keep writing 💞

A - Affection (How affectionate is he? How does he show affection?)

Catcher is very affectionate and not afraid to display it publicly. He likes walking arm in arm or with his arm around your waist. When you hold hands, he periodically kisses your knuckles making you feel like royalty.

B - Best Friend (What is he like as a best friend? Where does the friendship start?)

Being best friends with THE Catcher Block means that you can truly say that you have friends in high places. He has the hookup for all the best restaurants, sports games, and nightlife entertainment. There's always something new to do when you're with him. He's a very fun and energetic person to be around. Your friendship began at the Know Magazine office. You were a junior journalist and had the great fortune of being paired with Catcher (much to his chagrin at the time) as your mentor. The friendship had a bit of a bumpy start but you showed a lot of promise in the field and impressed him. Now, it's hard to imagine never being friends!

C - Cuddles (Does he like to cuddle? How does he cuddle?)

Absolutely! He likes when you lay your head on his chest with one leg over his. He holds one of your hands with his and his other is wrapped around you rubbing your back. He's not really into spooning as he likes to see your face.

D - Domestic (Does he want to settle down? How is he at cooking, cleaning, etc?)

He's not eager to settle down preferring instead to enjoy the relationship one day at a time. It being the 60s, he most definitely doesn't ask you to move in with him before he puts a ring on your finger. He's not a good cook and mainly eats out or has the occasional TV dinner. He hired a maid to clean his bachelor pad but still keeps things tidy on his own.

E - Ending (If he had to break up with his partner, how would he do it?)

He would take them out to dinner and rip the bandaid off. He would try to spare their feelings by saying the cliche "it's not you it's me." or get them to to think that breaking up is their idea. He doesn't want the breakup to be nasty so that the door's still open for "sex a la carte" in the future. He's not heartless though, and if the relationship was a deep one then he'd mourn the end in private just like anyone else. (Ice cream and sad movies included).

F - Fiance (How does he feel about commitment? Does he want to get married?)

Catcher avoids commitment like the plague. He likes having many lovers to choose from like a buffet and being tied down would ruin that. He's one of the most desirable and eligible men in New York so he wants to have fun while he still can. Marriage isn't something that ever interested him until he met you. He can't help but feel like the two of you could make a beautiful life together. He's not yet ready to admit these feelings to you but giving up his lifestyle of rotational lovers in favor of exclusivity with you is a start.

G - Gentle (How gentle is he both physically and emotionally)

He's a gentleman so is very gentle physically. Of course he doesn't want to hurt you and loves pampering you at every opportunity. As far as emotional gentleness, he still has some learning to do. It's not that he enjoys hurting your feelings; far from it! But he's brash, arrogant, and used to getting his way which causes him to be insensitive at times especially to things he doesn't understand.

H - Hugs (Does he like hugs? How often does he do it and what are they like?)

He's not really much of a hugger unless you consider his embraces while making out "hugs." Catch doesn't hug often but when he does he usually opts for a side hug or a brief front hug if it's a friend.

I - I Love You (how fast does he say the "L" word?)

"I love you" falls off his lips easily....a little too easily. During his philandering days it wasn't an issue for him to say it to get what he wanted. Now, getting him to say it and mean it is a whole different ball game. Vulnerability is not one of his strengths. While the love he feels for you is genuine, it's still a new feeling for him. Be prepared to wait awhile to hear him confess his love.

J - Jealousy (How jealous does he get? What is he like when jealous?)

Catcher is a jealous man through and through. A bit ironic considering his background. He keeps his cool though and doesn't make a scene. He doesn't need to. Everyone knows who he is. A steely gaze and a snide comment is enough to send a suitor packing. When the two of you go out, you're practically joined at the hip and he makes sure everyone knows you're an item with his public displays of affection.

K - Kisses (What are his kisses like? Where does he like to kiss you? Where does he like to be kissed?)

Kisses with Catch are very heated and he loves making out anytime, anywhere. He likes to kiss a trail from your mouth, down your jaw, to your neck where he lavishes you with tender kisses and gentle bites. He likes to be kissed around his ears. It's a major weakness for him. His whole suave persona crumbles when you kiss the shell of his ear. Give him a nip and nuzzle and he's putty in your hands.

L - Little Ones (How is he around kids?)

Catcher says he wants a big family one day but how he acts tells a different story. Simply put, children and Catcher don't mix. Occasionally, a young boy who looks up to him will ask for an autograph and he'll oblige. Otherwise, he's content to not interact with them. It's in the best interest of his suits after all.

M - Morning (What are mornings like with him?)

Since Catcher started his "New Man" era, he knows that he can't spend the night with you as the temptation to *ahem* get to know you "all the way better" would be too strong. Therefore, on weekdays, your mornings together start at work. If he's not traveling, you share a pot of coffee in his office before starting your hectic workday. You guys chat about how your evening was, how you slept, etc. On weekends, he picks you up to go out for breakfast or you attempt cooking together which is always a fun experience.

N - Night (How are nights spent with him?)

Catcher takes you on a date somewhere new every night! He loves the nightlife and sharing new experiences with you. Sometimes, you like to have a more calm evening by enjoying an intimate dinner before slow dancing to his extensive music collection. He always walks you back to your apartment and you end the night with a lingering kiss.

O - Open (When does he open up about himself?)

When it comes to physical intimacy, Catcher Block is bar none. But emotional intimacy? Well, he's a tough nut to crack. His debonair persona, while flashy and alluring, doesn't have much substance. He is very keen on making sure that people only know about him what he wants them to know. It takes him several weeks to get there so it's very special when he does let his guard down and shares his heart with you fully. This vulnerability usually happens in the quiet moments of life together. Sitting on the veranda watching the sunset, reading together on a rainy day, or enjoying a quiet Sunday breakfast. Moments when he doesn't have to be The Man About Town™️, just your man.

P - Patience (How easily angered is he?)

99% of the time Catcher is cool as a cucumber. The 1% of the time he gets riled up is because someone insulted his sex appeal, journaling skills, or you. At that point you might as well step out of the way and let him do what he does best: destroy the offender with an exposé.

Q - Quizzes (How much does he remember about you?)

He's capable of remembering a lot about you, however, because he's had so many partners during his playboy days, he sometimes confuses an ex's info with yours 😬.

R - Remember (Favorite memory with you?)

Catcher's favorite memory with you is of the first time your bond began to form. You got to accompany Catcher to Japan while he worked on an article. It was there that you both were introduced to karaoke by the man you were interviewing. It would be offensive to turn him down so you nervously went through with it. Turns out, Catcher is actually a good singer! The two of you grew more comfortable as the night went on and even sang several duets! Catcher was impressed with your willingness to put yourself out there for the job. Belting his heart out with you by his side felt like magic.

S - Security (How protective is he?)

He's not super protective. He knows that you can take care of yourself. If you couldn't, then you wouldn't be in the cutthroat world of journalism. Of course, that doesn't mean he won't always have your back.

T - Try (How much effort does he put in?)

Catcher is a man who believes in going above and beyond. It's how he become the best journalist in New York after all. He applies this mentality to anything he sets his mind on. Or in this case, anyone. He pulls out all the stops when wooing you and even after you start going steady. Of course, he doesn't want to seem like he's trying since that would ruin his laid back persona. But in his heart, he's genuinely eager to please.

U - Ugly (What are his bad habits?)

Let's just say that putting others first is not second nature to him. It's not that he goes out of his way to be selfish, he's just never had to share before. He's used to going where he wants and doing what he wants whenever he wants. He hasn't had a relationship deeper than a fling so thinking about how his decisions affect you doesn't really cross his mind. This also leads to another bad habit which is assuming that what he wants is also what you want.

V - Vanity (How concerned is he with his looks?)

VERY! Never a hair out of place or a wrinkle in his wardrobe. He's sexy and he knows it and you best believe he flaunts it.

W - Whole (Would he feel incomplete without you?)

He would be heartbroken if your relationship didn't work out and he does miss you when you're apart. However, he would be able to bounce back eventually though you'd always have a place in his heart.

X - Xtra (Random headcanon)

He's not quick to cry but the song "Moon River" never fails to make him misty-eyed.

Y - Yuck (Things he doesn't like in general or in a partner)

Catcher is very open to new experiences. His motto is: "I'll try anything once, twice if I like it" (wink wink). Therefore, someone who prefers living in a set routine or refuses to step outside their comfort zone isn't going to last in a relationship with him.

Z - Zzz (What is a sleep habit of his?)

He's a wild sleeper. Limbs all over the place, tossing and turning, all that jazz. He's also a blanket hog.

20. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

20. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones

Genre: Family/Action

Rating: PG

Director: George Lucas

Starring: Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Hayden Christensen

Synopsis: Ten years after The Phantom Menace, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker reunite with Padmé Amidala, now a Senator of the Republic. Anakin is sent to Naboo to act as Padmé's bodyguard and wrestles with his growing feelings for her as well as increasing visions of his mother. While Obi-Wan searches for her killer, he uncovers a secret plan to plunge the galaxy into war.

Ewan Review: Ewan McGregor returns to his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, now graduated from a Padawan to a distinguished Jedi Knight and Master to Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan has grown into his role as a teacher to Anakin though the two often don't see eye to eye. He must learn to trust in Anakin and give him the freedom to prove himself. He also gets soaking wet and tied by the hands twice. His screentime doubles from The Phantom Menace so you get to see more of Obi-Wan's personality which is appreciated. He's very sarcastic and quippy in this movie. His acting performance is very well done.

Another one! Also, I 100% agree with the person who said this is them but reversed 🤭 like you KNOW that Christian is the one waking Satine in the middle of the night to ask her these questions and she's just used to it by now 😁

Satine: What do you normally do while I'm gone?

Christian: Wait for you to get back 🥺

SFW Alphabet: Christian (Moulin Rouge!)

SFW Alphabet: Christian (Moulin Rouge!)

I was inspired to make one of these thanks to @parvulous-writings 😁 This is based on the movie version of Christian and it was really fun to imagine how I think he would act. I can totally see myself doing this again with a different character. Also, shoutout to @palfriendpatine66 and @elysabeththequeene for helping me when I got stuck 🫶. @elysabeththequeene writes a lot of Moulin Rouge fanfic btw and they're amazing! Tell me what y'all think!

A - Affection (How affectionate is he? How does he show it?)

If you look up the word affectionate in the dictionary there's just a picture of Christian. The man is SUPER affectionate! He would like nothing more than to always be within arms reach of you. As far as showing it, anything goes as long he can touch you. He likes giving and receiving subtle touches like letting your legs rest on each other while sitting or brushing hands when walking past the other.

B - Best Friend (What is he like as a best friend? Where does the friendship start?)

Christian is a very supportive and present friend. He values your opinion and asks you for advice or to read over his writing. The two of you could talk for hours about nothing in particular. You just enjoy spending time together no matter where or when. The friendship started when Toulouse invited you to have dinner with him and his friends. You and Christian didn't talk a whole lot that night but you felt a spark which only grew the more you hung out.

C - Cuddles (Does he like to cuddle? How does he cuddle?)

Of course he loves to cuddle! After a long day of work, he looks forward to decompressing by tangling his limbs in yours. He's fine with any cuddle position and especially loves laying in your lap while you stroke his face or hair.

D - Domestic (Does he want to settle down? How is he at cooking, cleaning, etc.?)

100% he wants to settle down though he's not skilled at cooking or cleaning. However, he doesn't expect you to pick up his slack. He's willing to learn so he can take care of you.

E - Ending (If he has to break up with his partner, how would he do it?)

Christian is a sensitive soul so if he had to break up with you it would tear him apart. He would agonize over the decision but ultimately would tell you face to face in private and be as gentle as possible. He would try to stay composed but would probably get misty-eyed seeing you hurt. Once he was alone, he would break down.

F - Fiance (How does he feel about commitment? Does he wanna get married?)

He is not afraid of commitment whatsoever and takes it very seriously. He is completely loyal to you and definitely wants to marry you. He's just waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question. He wants it to be magical!

G - Gentle (How gentle is he both physically and emotionally?)

Christian is the most gentle man you've ever been with. This gentleness extends to all living beings, not just the person he is dating, which endears you even more to him. He is very considerate and does things like shield you from the rain even it means he gets wet, or massage your feet after a tiring work day. Emotionally, he is great listener and always wants you to feel safe talking to him about your troubles.

H - Hugs (Does he like hugs? How often does he do it and what are they like?)

Christian is a hugger for sure! Greetings, goodbyes, comfort, celebration, you name it, he does it any chance he gets. He likes to engulf you in bear hugs and always rubs your back before pulling away. His body is soft so his hugs feel like you're sinking into a pillow.

I - I Love You (How fast does he say the "L" word?)

Pretty quickly, nor does he try to hide when he falls in love with you. He wears his heart on his sleeve. Once he knows that he loves you, he doesn't have a problem saying it.

J - Jealousy (How jealous does he get? What is he like when jealous?)

He's not an especially jealous man. He's very secure in his relationship with you and trusts you entirely. If he ever does feel a twinge of jealousy it's usually because one too many wealthy suitors have flirted with you. He knows that you can have someone more rich and successful than he is and he wonders if you'd be happier with someone who could give you the life he wishes he could. Luckily, it's not difficult to reassure him that your heart belongs to him alone.

K - Kisses (What are his kisses like? Where does he like to kiss you? Where does he like to be kissed?)

His kisses are passionate and a bit inept. He is new to the whole love thing after all. His lips are silky soft and he always kisses you like you're water in a desert no matter how brief the kiss. He loves to cup your cheeks and kiss your forehead. His favorite place for you to kiss him is, well, his lips lol.

L - Little Ones (How is he around children?)

He's very good with children and they pretty much flock to him! He would love to be a father one day.

M - Morning (What are mornings like with him?)

Mornings are a quiet affair. He wakes up early when he's working on a show and gets ready for the day as quiet as possible so as not to wake you. You wake up anyway, if just to give him a sleepy "have a good day" before falling back into slumber. When he doesn't have to rush off to rehearsal then you enjoy coffee and the morning paper together.

N - Night (How are nights spent with him?)

If mornings are quiet then nights are the exact opposite. The two of you make a mess in the kitchen while cooking dinner and singing all the while. Sometimes, you catch the latest moving picture at the theatre or dance the night away at the Moulin Rouge. When it's time for bed, you catch each other up on the day's events while snuggled close. You often awake alone in the middle of the night to find Christian frantically typing away on his typewriter, desperate to get his sparks of inspiration on paper before they disappear. You kiss him on the cheek and he guides you to sit on his lap while he writes. A cute gesture which never works well for long.

O - Open (When does he open up about himself?)

To reiterate, Christian wears his heart on his sleeve. He doesn't really have any secrets. If you want to know anything about him, just ask, and he'll be happy to answer. He's also a great conversationalist so he volunteers information about himself pretty naturally.

P - Patience (How easily angered is he?)

He's not quick to anger at all. Since he's a writer, he'd rather use words to solve conflicts.

Q - Quizzes (How much does he remember about you?)

Everything! Not just the things you tell him directly either. He pays close attention to what you say and do. You're constantly surprised by the little ways he brightens your day all because of a random comment he remembers you making .

R - Remember (What's his favorite memory with you?)

It's impossible for him to choose his favorite memory with you for they are all dear to him. One memory that holds particular fondness for him though is from early on in your friendship. He was working on a song and softly singing it to himself. You were sitting next to him and you laid your head on his shoulder like it was the most natural thing to do. You said you liked the feeling of his voice vibrating. Your touch made his heart feel like it would burst out of his chest. He knew in that moment that you were going to have a special place in his life.

S - Security (How protective is he?)

He has an average level of protectiveness. Of course he doesn't want his loved ones to be hurt or taken advantage of. If he feels like that is happening then he'll do what he can to remedy the situation.

T - Try (How much effort does he put in?)

For Christian, there's no such thing as too much effort. He's a sincere man who loves wholeheartedly. He would walk a thousand miles on his hands just to see you smile.

U - Ugly (What are his bad habits?)

He needs to dial back on the absinthe.

V - Vanity (How concerned is he with his looks?)

Not very. His looks are important to him only as much as they affect you. If he knows that he's going to see you then he primps and preens so you'll hopefully like what you see. (You always do)

W - Whole (Would he feel incomplete without you?)

What is a singer without their voice? Or a house without a roof? That is Christian without you. You are the very air he breathes.

X - Xtra (Random headcanon)

He likes when you read to him. Even when he's taking a bath, he'll ask you to sit with him and read a story.

Y - Yuck (Something he doesn't like in general or in a partner)

He doesn't like pessimists. He's a very optimistic person and people who constantly tear down others' dreams or can't find the good in anything aren't people he associates with.

Z - Zzz (What is a sleep habit of his?)

He receives a lot of inspiration from his dreams and keeps a dream journal.

I hope you enjoyed this! Anything you agree or disagree with? Let me know! I love talking about Ewan's characters!

Another Thrift Score!

Y'all! So there were a bajillion DVDs at the thrift store all week. I'm not kidding. They had so much that they had to start bringing the movies out in buckets because there wasn't any shelf space. I haven't had a chance to go through them all until today. I just kept telling myself "there's way too many movies for there to not be a Ewan one." I felt it in my bones. If he was in one of these buckets, I was gonna sniff him out. Finally, after a long and tedious search of scanning movie titles, guess what was at the very end?

Another Thrift Score!

BAM!! I could hardly contain my joy! I knew he had to be there and I knew I would find him! Yayyyy, I'm so happy! 😁 I picked up Chicago too because of my darling Renée Zellweger 🥰. There was a movie called Twisted that I considered getting for Ashley Judd too (she was in Eye of the Beholder with Ewan) but I only had so much pocket money to spend. What a great score!

PSA: Ewan McGregor Movie Review

The next movie on the list for review is "Black Hawk Down." A film about the United States' military conflict with Somalia. On principle, I do not watch war movies. I believe that there are much better ways to learn about the devastation of war than watching a movie that, despite even its best efforts, will glamorize the tragedy. For that reason, "Black Hawk Down" will be skipped. The next movie to be reviewed will be "Attack of the Clones."

What a fun game! I love it! I agree with most of these headcanons. Now I wanna do one! 😁

Alex Law x Reader // SFW alphabet

Warnings: Very vague mentions of violence? If you squint?

Summary: SFW alphabet for Alex Law, from Shallow Grave.

Notes: My asks box is currently open and empty! Please check out the pinned post for characters I write for! :) Enjoy!

image

Not my gif

A - Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Alex never really shows affection in the conventional or typical sense. He’s not particularly one for PDA, such as hugs in front of others or kisses in public. He’ll lay with you on the couch though, and of course sleeps by your side- in your bed or in his. There are a few instances when he’ll be affectionate in front of others- like if either of you are really upset, or if you’re watching a movie with Juliet and David.

B - Best Friend (What would they be like as a best friend? Where does the friendship start?)

Alex can be a little bit annoying sometimes.Well, not sometimes. Most of the time. He tries to be nice, in his own Alex-y way. He would take the mickey out of you and joke around a lot, but despite this he would always be there to be a shoulder to lean on or just someone that listens to you.

19. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Moulin Rouge! (2001)

19. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Moulin Rouge! (2001)

Fun Fact: Jim Broadbent co-stars in this movie as Harold Zidler. He worked with Ewan on the movie "Little Voice" as Mr. Boo!

Director: Baz Luhrmann

Starring: Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor

Genre: Musical/Romance

Rating: PG-13

Synopsis: A young man named Christian who believes deeply in love although he has never fallen in love moves to France to pursue his dream of being a writer. He is befriended by a group of Bohemian artists who enlist him to help write a play for the Moulin Rouge. Thanks to a mix up, he meets the star of the Moulin Rouge, the courtesan Satine, and falls madly in love her. Unfortunately for him, not only is Satine betrothed to another man, she refuses to allow herself to fall in love.

Ewan Review: Ewan McGregor plays the character Christian. Christian is an optimistic and idealistic man. He believes that there is nothing more important than love. Although he is poor and Satine is meant to marry a rich Duke, he never loses hope that love will find a way for them to be together. Ewan speaks in an English accent for the role. He has a love interest, several kissing scenes, and two implied sex scenes. This is a musical so you get to hear him sing throughout the movie. He cries, screams, moans, and whimpers. His character is basically a puppy in human form so prepare for lots of charming innocence. His acting performance was wonderful.

Screentime Percentage: Ewan is on screen for a grand total of 51/128 minutes making his SP 40%.

To Ewan or not to Ewan: Is the movie worth watching for Ewan content alone? Yes. Is it worth watching in general? Yes.

Where to Watch: "Moulin Rouge!" is available for rent on YouTube, Google Play Movies and TV, and Fandango at Home. You can also pirate it on soap2day.

Okay, I'm taking a break from the movie and gonna share my ramblings thus far. Spoilers ahead!

The Moulin Rouge establishing number really is fun! It's just a headache when you're trying to tally screentime. I like Zidler singing and dancing.

The patrons singing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was awesome. Gave me chills.

Toulouse has my heart! I feel like he's edited to be shorter or something though. Something feels uncanny when watching him. Idk.

Nicole Kidman's singing doesn't do it for me. It's much to soft and she's consistently drowned out by others or the background music.

"Spectacular Spectacular" sequence was really fun.

Satine abruptly trilling and saying "I feel like dancing" to the Duke got the first laugh from me. That was 30 minutes in.

"Your Song" sequence was magical. I felt transported.

Surely Zidler could tell from his telescope that Satine was unconscious while (from his pov) she was being fucked. He was okay with that. And also with spying on an intimate moment 🤢. That made me sad for Satine. Zidler might act like a silly uncle but he's still a pimp at the end of the day.

Hot take: I like the Duke. Why is he the bad guy? Cuz he has a moustache and funny accent we're supposed to understand not to like him? Are we supposed to think he's ugly therefore bad? I think the actor is handsome. He's doing a good job.

Another hot take: why does Christian love Satine? Because she's the most beautiful out of Zidler's sex workers? If Satine was a Diamond Dog instead of the Sparkling Diamond then what would happen? Does he love her because she made him think she loved him and he just couldn't get over it? I'm confused and feel like the movie doesn't want me to think about it.

I could understand Satine loving Christian easier than the reverse. He's innocent, naive, genuine, and handsome. He's the puppy and she's the master. He's completely infatuated with her. Like a puppy, he can't help but want to follow her and shower her with kisses and cuddles. If I were in Satine's place, I would appreciate that sort of blind and gentle worship when I'm sure it's not common amongst her patrons. It's still not enough for me but it makes more sense. Maybe I'll elaborate later.

What is Nini's problem? That smirk she makes behind the Duke after cluing him in to what is happening under his nose made me angry.

The Duke is genuinely trying to woo Satine and keeps getting shut down. Let us see why we shouldn't root for him! Why is Christian the better choice??? How do we know the Duke wouldn't treat Satine the same if he actually got the chance? I actually feel sorry for him because he thinks he has a shot and they're just playing in his face.

Okay, so did anyone else watch "Come What May" and think "oh my god these are their wedding vows!" 😭 I can't begin to describe how precious that gesture is. My heart!

I will agree with Zidler that rewriting the play when the show opens TOMORROW is demanding the impossible.

Satine truly loves Christian. She's not doing this because Zidler owns her, or because her coworkers are depending on her to keep their livelihood. She's doing this for him. I admire her.

I'm sorry but can anyone tell me when in the world a couple would perform the Argentinian's tango? The thought seriously has me cracking up 🤣

On a serious note: That™️ scene is viscerally powerful. I mean damn. They didn't hold back. I think I want to talk about that more later.

But while we're on the subject, let's go ahead and address the Duke. There's 36 minutes left in the movie and NOW we see he's not the right choice. 36 minutes! Also, I understand him being angry. He's right. Satine DID make him believe she loved him. She lied to his face for months. He tried to be understanding about her work. He tried to make accommodations. They were betrothed and he trusted that she was being faithful to him and honest when she said wanted him. That is not his fault. She played him and the rug was finally pulled out from under his feet. I think his pain and feelings of betrayal are understandable. Now, how he deals with that pain is not okay. And this is a bit of a parallel between him and Christian. It's not a perfect comparison at all because Christian was lied to for only 5 seconds unlike the Duke. However, I can't help but think about the difference between Christian's response to rejection and the Duke's. If we remember that Satine says her job is literally to make men fall in love with her then I imagine that the Duke's reaction is one she has dealt with far too often...

Moulin Rouge Thoughts

So guys, I've been watching Moulin Rouge, and well, I've been thinking. I've had a lot of thoughts while watching and should've done this earlier. Maybe I'll start doing it for the other Ewan reviews. But I wanted to jot down the things that cross my mind while watching because, oh boy, have things been crossing my mind. I'm just afraid that I'm going to come across as a psychopath at worst, and a dumb dumb at best. I'm trusting that y'all have better insight into this movie since it's so beloved. I only just watched it for the first time recently. Stay tuned...if you dare ☠️

🎃 Halloween Idea 🎃

So, today marks exactly three months until Halloween! I have an idea that I want to share with y'all and need help fleshing it out. What if we had a Ewan Halloween celebration? Halloween falls on a Thursday this year and there will be five Thursdays in October. I'm thinking about hosting an online movie night each Thursday leading up to Halloween where we watch a scary Ewan movie! We can call it Ewanween, or HallowEwan, or just Halloween: Ewan Edition (I clearly need help with a name 😅). I can set up a discord for us to watch together at a chosen time. Maybe on Halloween day we can do a double feature or something! I'm open to ideas! I was also thinking of maybe incorporating spooky/scary fanart and fanfic. For example, if for the 2nd Thursday we watch Shallow Grave then on that day we can share our creations that have to do with the movie/characters. What do you think? I've never done something like that before so it might be outside my abilities to put that together. Plus, I know there are other, more established, fan events that happen throughout October. It's just a thought! Now, as for the movies, we need five. I made a list of seven Ewan movies that I felt fit the Halloween vibe. If this idea garners interest, then I'll make a poll for us to narrow down the choices. Please let me know your thoughts and share with anyone you think will be interested!

I GOT THEM!!!! And y'all, by the time I got off work there was not just one, not two, but THREE Ewan movies available and I got them all! You know what's crazy? The movies for sale were the next three movies in line for review in order! Moulin Rouge, Black Hawk Down, and Attack of the Clones! Isn't that cool? That brings my Ewan movie collection to five! I also got the movies Red and Red 2. Red 2 was available this morning and I considered getting it but I like the first one better so I didn't want to only buy the sequel. When I got off work, the first movie was available for sale so I went ahead and got them both! I don't think anything can dull my shine today! I shouldn't have bought so much. I'm sure I'll regret it later. Right now, I'm on cloud nine 😁🥰🥳

I GOT THEM!!!! And Y'all, By The Time I Got Off Work There Was Not Just One, Not Two, But THREE Ewan

ALERT! ALERT!

Try to stay calm but THE "MOULIN ROUGE" DVD IS FOR SALE AT MY JOB!!!! I literally said "oh my fucking god" when I saw it. But I can't buy it because I'm on the clock and I still have 4 hours until I clock out 😫😫 I'm so scared that it's going to get bought in that time! It's brand new, still in the plastic, and only 2 DOLLARS! Oh my god, I want it sooooo bad!

Edit: I just got a chance to actually pick it up and take a look and it's not new in the plastic. Doesn't change anything for me of course. Also, another Ewan movie "Black Hawk Down" is available too! There's a good selection of general movies we have today and I'm tempted to buy an armful lol

I actually just watched this scene yesterday! I haven't seen the play so I'm going off the movie. My opinion is option A. Before Christian starts singing, he is reciting the lyrics which means that he didn't make it up on the spot. Now, I don't think he was necessarily prepared to start singing. That part was spontaneous. Otherwise, he would have began by singing instead of spoken word. What do you guys think?

okay real talk do we think when christian performs your song for satine is it a) the poem/song he had prepared to audition for her or b) he was so inspired by seeing her that he abandoned the previously prepared material and came up with this on the spot

18. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Nora (2000)

18. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Nora (2000)

(the pictures used are from Frock Flicks on Pinterest)

We made it to the new millennium! Time to say goodbye to our 90's lad and say hello to Ewan's 2000's era!

Genre: Drama

Rating: R

Director: Pat Murphy

Starring: Susan Lynch, Ewan McGregor

Synopsis: "Nora" is based on the real life of Nora Barnacle, who was the life partner of the prolific Irish writer, James Joyce. Her story begins as a bright-eyed young woman eager to leave her town. After falling in love with a talented writer, and accomplishing her dream to move out of Dublin, she starts to realize that the life she envisioned for herself is nothing like the reality she finds herself in.

Ewan Review: Ewan plays the character James Joyce. Although the movie is called "Nora" it could have easily been called "James", as the film seems to focus more on him than his counterpart. James is an aspiring Irish writer and a very talented one at that. The only problem is that he struggles to find a publisher for his work which makes him feel insecure in his craft. He is arrogant, self-centered, heavily swayed by the opinions of his friends, and prone to fits of jealousy. He loves Nora and is utterly reliant on her love and support though he can be too proud to admit it. Ewan speaks in an Irish accent for the role, which I don't think is great, but he does act opposite of a native Irish actress so the difference is more noticeable. He has facial hair which changes over time and I didn't like at all. He speaks a little Italian, plays guitar, and sings five times. This movie is smut city! He has a love interest and when they aren't fighting they're fucking. Within ten minutes of the movie, Ewan is whimpering like a puppy while getting jacked off in an alley. He has several kiss scenes and sex scenes, one of which is nude doggy style. He has a shirtless scene, fingering scene, and a masturbation scene. He also exhibits some cuckolding desires which I found intriguing. The creme de la creme in my opinion is the dirty talking sequence. James and Nora write erotic letters to each other which the actors read out loud. One more thing that I must mention is something I've yet to see repeated in a Ewan movie. In one particular sex scene, Ewan strokes Susan Lynch's leg, creeping up her dress, and you see her twitch. Like, the involuntary twitch your body does when someone touches you just right...I'm just gonna leave that right there. Overall, Ewan gives a good performance.

Screentime Percentage: Ewan is on screen for a grand total of 60/107 minutes making his SP 56%.

To Ewan or not to Ewan: Is the movie worth watching for Ewan content alone? Yes! Is it worth watching in general? Y'all are gonna think I'm crazy for this, but no. Maybe if you're a fan of James Joyce, which is the intended audience anyway, then you'll find it enjoyable. The movie itself is pretty boring. While Susan Lynch was the best actor in this film and did incredible, I wouldn't watch this except for Ewan and even that was a struggle when smut wasn't happening. If you're choosing movies to watch based on the Ewan factor then this is an understandable skip. It's extremely unfortunate that even pathetic, jealous, sex couldn't save this for me.

Where to Watch: "Nora" is available for rent on YouTube. You can stream it for free on the following platforms: Tubi, Pluto TV, Sling TV, Fandango at Home, Freevee, Amazon Prime Video, and Redbox.

I'm watching Moulin Rouge for the Ewan Mcgregor Screentime Percentage and I don't think I can do this y'all. This whole speedy style of editing with the quick cuts is destroying me. I worked for 1 hour and only got 11 minutes done. The movie is over 2 hours! After another long ass minute of 1 second jump cuts I had to step away. At this rate it's gonna take me 12 hours to get through this thing. I know the movie doesn't keep this pace the whole time (thank god!) and I keep telling myself that. I think I just have to get through this establishing Moulin Rouge ensemble number and it'll be smooth sailing. Another light in the darkness is that, to my knowledge, Ewan doesn't have another movie where the editors were on cocaine. This should be a one and done. 🤞🤞

Random Idea

Here's something I've been thinking about: A hyper-fixation hotline! Maybe these already exist. Honestly I didn't look it up lol. I'm currently obsessed with Ewan McGregor so what if you could call the hotline, tell the dispatcher your interest, (i.e. Subject: Celebrities. Topic: Ewan McGregor) and then you'd be connected to someone you can talk to about him! Cuz like, I don't want to just talk TO people about my fave. I'm thankful for those that listen but they don't understand or can't get invested because they're not interested in him like I am. A lot of the stuff I talk about is their first time hearing it. I wanna talk WITH someone about Ewan. Someone who has also watched his movies, and listened to his interviews, and wrote fanfiction etc etc! So that I'm not just rambling to a patient stranger but I'm having a conversation with someone who gets it! Tumblr has been a godsend when it comes to finding people who share your interest, absolutely. I also wanna talk on the phone so I can satisfy the human connection hole I have. Like being able to hear someone's voice and then laugh or get excited or whatever. I need that. Anyway, just something I've been thinking about. For what it's worth, if you're a die hard Ewan McGregor fan and you stumble across this, then take this as permission to talk to me about Ewan! If you've wanted someone to ramble to then I'm that guy!

17. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Eye of the Beholder (1999)

17. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Eye Of The Beholder (1999)

Well, we're here. We finally made it to Ewan's last movie of the 1990's. Seventeen. That's how many movies our fave did in the 90's. That's not including tv shows and short films. Seventeen. Movies. Let me put this in perspective. Ewan's big screen debut was in 1994. In the span of FIVE YEARS he did SEVENTEEN movies! Five years, y'all! Out of those seventeen he starred in eleven! Who else is putting up these kind of numbers? Do y'all realize how astounding a career start that is? He wasn't a child actor. He didn't have insider connections. He was a nobody 22 year old with a dream. I'm sure even he never imagined that he would experience that insane amount of success in such a small amount of time. There's a lot that had to go into his success that I could ramble about for hours. But what I will say is that he has got to be the luckiest actor alive.

Genre: Thriller/Mystery

Rating: R

Director: Stephan Elliott

Starring: Ewan McGregor, Ashley Judd

Movie Synopsis: A British spy know as "The Eye" is sent on a mission to gather intel on his target. When he witnesses his target's murder at the hands of a mysterious woman, he feels an immediate connection to her and strives to keep her from getting caught. His strange compulsion turns into obsession as he secretly follows her and devotes himself to protecting her no matter the cost.

Ewan Review: Ewan plays the character Stephen Wilson aka The Eye. Stephen is a quiet and withdrawn person. He is emotionally and mentally fragile ever since the abrupt loss of his daughter and still sees her everywhere. When he first sees the mysterious woman, he feels a paternal instinct ignite inside him and believes she can fill the hole left by his daughter. I think Ewan gives a good performance in this role. The character is subdued yet intriguing. His motivations are just as mysterious as the woman he stalks which pulls you in. He doesn't have a love interest. He gets into two fights and beats someone bloody in one of them. He doesn't have any nudity but Ashley Judd does. Truth be told, the draw of this movie truly is the acting. Both Ewan and Ashley Judd's performances are amazing. Watching him fall deeper into his obsession is disturbingly mesmerizing. You wonder how far he will go and how long he can keep this up. If you're into yandere and Ewan McGregor then this was made for you.

Screentime Percentage: Ewan McGregor is on screen for a grand total of 48 / 102 minutes making his SP 47%.

To Ewan or not to Ewan: Is the movie worth watching for Ewan content alone? Yes. Is it worth watching in general? Yes.

Warning Before Watching: This movie features a lot of violence with much of it being bloody. There is also an attempted rape scene where the victim is beaten and drugged.

Where to Watch: You can watch "Eye of the Beholder" for free on Peacock. It is available for rent on YouTube, Google Play Movies and TV, and Fandango at Home. You can watch it on the following streaming platforms if you have a subscription: Starz, YouTube Primetime, Hulu, Sling TV, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube Premium, and Philo Premium.

Closing Thoughts: This movie was not a commercial success yet I consider it to be a diamond in the rough. It's high on my list of favorite Ewan movies. On YouTube, there is fascinating behind the scenes footage on the film-making process that made the movie that much more endearing to me. It's called "Documentary about making Eye of the Beholder with Ewan McGregor" on the account "Ewan McGregor Vault".

16. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Rogue Trader (1999)

16. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Rogue Trader (1999)

We're nearing the end of Ewan's 90's movie run! This movie took me a looooong time to get through because it's so anxiety inducing! You've heard of second-hand embarrassment? Well, get ready for second-hand panic lol.

Fun Fact: Pip Torrens plays a supporting role in this movie as the boss of Ewan McGregor's character. They worked together on the 1995 television show "Kavanagh Q.C."

Genre: Thriller/Crime

Rating: R

Director: James Dearden

Starring: Ewan McGregor, Anna Friel

Synopsis: "Rogue Trader" is based on a real person and event which makes it even more painful to watch. The movie is about Nick Leeson, a young and ambitious employee at England's second oldest bank, Barings. Nick's dream is to work as an investment trader for the bank and after hard work, earns the position. His ambitions don't end there and as he strives to make a name for himself by any means necessary, his pride and deception lead to a catastrophic end that shocks the world.

Ewan Review: Ewan McGregor plays the main character Nick Leeson. Nick is a plucky young man eager to make his mark in the investing world. He's charming, intelligent, and cares deeply for his wife and employees. Unfortunately, he uses these positive traits to his own detriment and the detriment of others. As you watch this movie, it becomes increasingly clear why Ewan was hired for the project as he is Mr. Prince Charming himself. Ewan brings a soft touch to this role. Making a man who caused irreparable harm to god knows how many people sympathetic. You want to see his luck turn around. You want him to do the right thing even as he digs himself deeper and deeper into his mess. Ewan has a love interest in this role and several kiss scenes. He has a nude makeout scene, and is shirtless multiple times. He also gets a very clear ass shot. He gets extremely anxious, and sleep deprived. You will literally see him shake, cry, or throw up at least once. He gets hit in the face with a chair at a bar fight and has a couple boxing scenes. In other words, there's a lot of yummy content in here.

Screentime Percentage: Ewan McGregor is on screen for a whopping grand total of.....65 / 94 minutes! This makes his SP 69% 😱 That is a HUGE amount! "Trainspotting" has finally been dethroned and I honestly don't know what movie, if any, is going to top this score. So start placing your bets!

To Ewan or not to Ewan: Is the movie worth watching for Ewan content alone? Yes. Is it worth watching in general? Yes.

Warning Before Watching: In the very beginning of the movie, a man flashes his penis at a woman he's hitting on. You don't see his penis but it's uncomfortable to watch just the same. There is a miscarriage scene that features light bleeding. It's not graphic but if you're sensitive to such topics and would like to skip, it starts at 53:00 and ends at 54:06.

Where to Watch: Rogue Trader is available for rent on Fandango at Home and Amazon Prime Video. It is also currently uploaded for free on YouTube through the channels "Retrospective - Classic Movies" and "Real Drama". Just search "Rogue Trader 1999" and both options will come up.

15. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)

15. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)

Hey y'all, I'm back! I took a break that lasted longer than expected and it's finally time for me get back to it. This is Ewan's first movie of 1999.

Genre: Family/Sci-fi

Rating: PG

Director: George Lucas

Starring: Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Ahmed Best, Natalie Portman, Jake Lloyd

Movie Synopsis: "The Phantom Menace" is about two Jedi, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who are sent on a simple diplomatic mission to help a planet in crisis. What they discover is a much larger conspiracy and that their enemy, The Sith, have finally resurfaced after 1,000 years. Aid for the Jedi comes from an unlikely ally, Anakin Skywalker, who is an enslaved child and believed by Qui-Gon to be the Chosen One who will bring balance to the Force.

Ewan Review: Ewan McGregor plays the character Obi-Wan Kenobi who is an Apprentice aka Padawan to his Master, Qui-Gon Jinn. Obi-Wan is near the end of his Apprenticeship and is a very calm, focused, and prepared Jedi learner. While his Master believes little Anakin is the Chosen One and will do anything, even go against their Council's orders, to train the boy, Obi-Wan is not convinced. During their mission, Obi-Wan must use all of his training to confront the Sith and help bring peace to the planet. Ewan speaks in what sounds like a British accent for this role. He doesn't have any love interests, kissing, or nude scenes. His role isn't very prominent so he doesn't do much. He goes swimming with his clothes on if that is important to you and he has a fight scene at the end of the movie which is spectacular. His acting is fine for the little he's given to do.

Screentime Percentage: Ewan is on screen for a grand total of 23/136 minutes making his SP 17%.

To Ewan or not to Ewan: Is the movie worth watching for Ewan content alone? Sigh...no. Wait! Before you crucify me, just please take off your nostalgia glasses for a second! This movie and version of Obi-Wan is as dear to my heart as it is to many fans. However, my absolute love for this character doesn't change the fact that the man is barely in the movie. When he is, it's very brief scenes where he tends to be standing quietly in the background. He also has minimal lines. Even Ewan himself has joked about how he was basically hired to just stand behind Liam Neeson. The bulk of his screentime happens in the last TEN minutes of the movie. Ewan being in this film is a plus, not the reason you should watch. So, I'm obliged to say that this isn't the Ewan content you're looking for (pun intended). Now, is the movie worth watching in general? Absolutely! It's such a fun time, the world building is incredible and don't get me started on the film score! Plus, the lightsaber duel at the end is one of the best fight sequences in the entire Star Wars series.

Where to Watch: You can watch The Phantom Menace if you are subscribed to Disney+. The movie is available for rent on Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies & TV, or Fandango at Home. You can also pirate it on soap2day.
