Oh my god I just had a big brain moment

Peeps on Discord really seemed to like this theory of mine, so I figured I’d share it on Tumblr as well.

This is a bit of dialogue during Asriel’s fight:

Gaster was completely forgotten.

What if, assuming his sprite is Mystery Man, which looks kind of melty and all, the failed experiment his followers mention is actually him experimenting with determination, bringing himself close to death, just like Flowey did, which put him in the state he’s currently in? (keep in mind, Flowey isn’t a monster, so determination wouldn’t have affected him the same way)

The followers also mention how Gaster “fell into his creation”, but I don’t think it has to be a literal fall. The state of “fallen down” is a state monsters go through before passing away. The monsters who became amalgames were all in that state, which is why they were taken to the lab to be experimented on, because they were going to die anyway. This is stated in entry number 6.

He could have done it on the fallen monsters before doing it on himself, since the monsters didn’t start melting until much later, by the time Alphys had become the royal scientist. This is, of course, when assuming that Gaster wrote up until entry number 8, then the rest were written by Alphys. At least judging by the writting style for each entry (entries 1 to 8 are written in a more professional way than the ones after). This also implies that Gaster was the one who created Flowey, but that’s another story.

Regardless, it would be safe to assume Alphys found herself in the obligation to proceed with the experiments left by the previous royal scientist, no matter if no one remembered who he was, and why she felt so responsible for the amalgamates. I like to believe Alphys got the job after presenting Mettaton as a human-fighting robot (she did use to have a tendency to lie, after all), which would explain how confused she seems during her entries. Even if she had some knowledge on science and technology, I don’t think she could have been nearly as knowledgable as Gaster (the followers do point out his “irreplaceable brilliance”).

Hopefully this all makes sense lmao

It's not like it took them THREE YEARS to realize stealing a design that is now everywhere with zero credit and zero permission is not fucking cool actually.

It's not like they constantly claim their characters are the strongest in the multiverse when they're literally just recolours and traced versions of other people's art with zero creativity put into them beyond the creator's desire to be a selfish piece of shit and own all the 'strongest Sanses'

It's not like they harass creators to get their au and characters more known

It's not like they have dozens of alt accounts for doing that

Oh wait.

But that's not to say I hate them. I just think them and all 'their' (stolen) characters, shouldn't be in this fandom because they're all pieces of shit.
