I understand that Hama had to die. I do. I understand that he absolutely had to die in the specific the way that he did, because Hama as a character represents the valor and honor of the people of Rohan (exemplified in his mastery of song, which is how those values are upheld in the community and passed along to the next generation), and Wulf, who rejects these values, had to kill him in a dishonorable way to represent his attempt to destroy the values of the Eorlingas and prove that valor and honor are worthless. And I understand that Hama’s instrument being passed to others represents that that valor and honor did not die with him, and could not be destroyed by Wulf. I understand this! I do! James Potter prides himself in knowing everything there is to know about Regulus Black.

Or, well, he works hard to know everything he can.

He knows, for example, that Regulus can get horribly overwhelmed at parties and in big crowds, but sometimes has trouble finding the words to say so. So, James has gotten in the habit of making sure to keep a reassuring hand on the younger boy– squeezing his waist or knee every once in a while to remind him that he’s there and to check to see if he’s okay. By now, they can communicate with a few gestures, and a look from Regulus tells James that he needs to go for a walk or go back to his dorm.

He also knows that Regulus hates surprises. It’s more than just not liking the unexpected, he gets deeply uncomfortable with a break in routine. So, James makes sure to always tell him everything he can about new things. He writes down details about new places they’re going to go on dates, and he makes sure to tell Regulus all about any plans he makes for the two of them.

And of course, he knows that Regulus is very particular about his clothing. He only has about five outfits that he wears regularly, a collection of tops and pants he cycles through. He not only cares about looking good, he cares about the way the clothes feel. So James uses a charm to make a copy of Regulus’s favorite pajamas and clothes and keeps them at his Dorm, so his boyfriend can always be comfortable.

He also never even thinks about giving Regulus something new to wear.

So one day, when he is let into the Slytherin Common Room after a long day of classes and he sees Regulus curled up on the couch there, he has to blink several times, rubbing at his eyes. 

Because the younger boy is laying there, wrapped up in one of James’s hoodies, looking completely content.

“What?” Regulus asks, finally realizing he’s there after James has been staring for several seconds.

“Erm…that…that’s mine,” James says weakly, pointing to the hoodie.

“I know. Can I wear it for a while? It’s so comfortable,” Regulus sighs, smiling softly.

And without thinking, James replies, “You can have it.” Because seeing his boyfriend look so happy in something that is his is doing crazy things to his heart.

Regulus takes extra steps to avoid touching people, including his own friends and best friends. He'd flinch a bit if someone accidentally brushes past him but when Sirius just casually ruffles his hair, he doesn't even register that.

this goes for everyone else in the family (Narcissa, Andromeda, Bellatrix) too but unlike Sirius and more like Regulus, they tend to be reserved with their affection so it seems like Sirius is the only one that gets a pass.

All their friends straight up hate Sirius for that too because he's never physically affectionate with Regulus but he's the only one that can get away with touching him and it gets on the nerves of literally everyone.

In their eyes, Sirius was granted a divine gift and just...kicked it away.
