now that i think about it, jonathan harker would’ve been a great character in frankenstein. he’s so completely oblivious to dracula’s red flag parade that he’d probably completely avert the creature’s murderous rampage by accidentally befriending him after spending a page and a half writing about some weirdly tall homeless guy with daddy issues he ran into
Spoiler warning for Cinderella's Castle under the cut.
While I will say (even this early in her time with the company) that this show was Bryce's finest hour, we need to draw attention to Ella's death scene.
Every time I watch it, I have such a visceral reaction, but I still pay attention to it because of her acting in this scene.
How Ella cries out to her parents as Putrice and Rancilda restrain her. It brings to mind soldiers fatally wounded in combat, calling out for a loved one that they wish to see one last time.
Her attempt to pray to the Nine Good Gods; even after the Fairy Queen disproved her faith, it's still the only faith that she knows. It was probably one of the only things that she had left after her father's death.
She truly sounds like she's in pain when the Stepmother makes the first cut to her leg, only reduced to sobs because she's in too much agony to speak.
But she still has enough defiance left in her to curse the trolls.
Even if the way the sequence is written and acted out makes it seem as if Ella dies pretty soon after her leg is severed, I can easily imagine her drifting in and out of consciousness as she continues to bleed out onto the table.
Maybe she's ready to give up.
Maybe she's afraid that, if there are no Nine Good Gods, there's no greener field beyond. And that means that she'll never see her parents, or Justine and Lucy again.
So death isn't even a comfort anymore.
There needs to be more irish (language) representation in media - even just a fáilte sign or something.
Irish was outlawed in ireland by colonists until it gained independence, and people taught their kids english because it was necessary for work or immigration. So Irish has taken a beating - but it's making a comeback!
Either way, if there was irish in song lyrics or short moments that don't need to be translated to understand what's being conveyed, that would be amazing and wonderful and awesome and brilliant and epic.
To any creators who do - go raibh maith agat :)
Dracula referring to his books as “my friends” is both hilarious and relatable
i’m going to go lie flat on some train tracks
was scrolling through the "the mechanisms was Jon Archivist's college band" tags on ao3 and misread "martin finds out Jon is the lead singer of his favorite band" as Melanie, and i honestly think that would be a hundred times funnier. imagine your eldritch boss who you fucking hate but sounds vaguely familiar asks what you're listening to one day out of awkward obligation to make British Small Talk and you roll your eyes and tell him he probably doesn't know them and then you drop their name and he goes very still and flushes and suddenly Jonny D'Ville is speaking in your airpods and you're looking at your boss (who again, you fucking hate) and your world crashes and burns
AITA for not telling my fiancé I know he’s queer?
I 20s (F) have a 20s (M) fiancé, V, and he’s been talking about this terrible secret he cannot tell me and he keeps almost starting to come out and then backing out. The issue is V and I were raised together by his parents, and my surrogate 40s (M) father and (now deceased) surrogate mother arranged for our marriage back when we were both children. They thought it was the best for us and at the time we were too young to realize the implications and had no reason to reject to the match. When we were teenagers our mother was on her deathbed and she told us again that she wished for us to marry, and of course we both agreed. However, V is also best friends with a 20s (M) guy called H, and they were nearly inseparable as boys and teens. They also went to university together and shared an apartment but V had to come home due to family reasons. Lately he’s been going out all day and coming home at night hours later. He insists that he’s fine and that we all leave him alone and not worry for him, but I think he and H have been sneaking around. He even delayed our wedding day by arranging a trip to go to England alone with H. It’s exhausting for all of us and I think I should just tell V I know and support him and that we can call off the marriage, but I’m not sure that’s the best course of action? I’m completely fine with not marrying him - he always felt more like a brother to me anyway - but I worry it might come off wrong. The worst part is he’s really beating himself up about it. He’s so guilty it’s beginning to take a toll on his health. I don’t care if he has a boyfriend I just want him to be happy.
EDIT: nvm he built an 8ft creature in his dorm
have no idea whats about to happen in protocol tomorrow but this is how it went in my head :P
cw video does get a bit loud at the end!
I've now gotten really into the idea of Jonah hating irish people while being irish and now I imagining him putting the image of food into people's head during he famine as an expression of internalized hatred
