She could hear the shoes scuffing around the stall as the guy froze, and it was hilarious seeing, well, not seeing technically, how no matter how old people got, men in her own personal experience, they still froze and fumbled when caught in an indecent position. Like a kid with his hand in a cookie jar. When she finally caught sight of the guy responsible for the ladies’ room now being a giant capsule, Gisele didn’t lose any time to look him over quickly. He looked… Good. Older than her but not by much. Nicely groomed, his hands looked delicat- Married? Her eyes went straight to his wedding band. One would imagine he’d come in here with his wife, get high and then fool around in the bathroom a bit, away from prying eyes. But… Maybe his wife wasn’t here. And now she started to see the real fun in this encounter.

Gisele caught his eye again and smirked as she saw him looking down at her chest and then come back up. Where do you want me?  Fuck, he’s in it as well. “Well, I’d have you sitting back on that couch if it were up to me, but then we’d still be in the same position” Red lips turned up with a smile, her tongue running over her teeth with a mischievous look on her face. “I thought you’d never offer” She joked, hand over her chest in an exaggerated dramatic flare, reaching out to grab it and once she did, she replaced the joint in his hand with her free one, shaking it gently “Gisele”

Leo’s brows shot up at her response but he easily settled back into his smugness. she was bold and matched his energy like it were breathing. She certainly had her handle on his attention now. Is she flirting with me? he thought, though he was sure his shiny wedding band was a good determent. it usually was. but wedding band or not didn’t keep him from openly leering at her. her skin looked so soft and she had a face that could stop a man in his tracks. and quite frankly, she did cause him to freeze up. he returned her smile with the crooked one of his own and let her take the joint of his offering hand.

“Gisele,” he repeated, testing her name on his tongue, as he wrapped his hand around hers. “Leo—Leo Davis.” he said returning the handshake and introducing himself. He let go of her hand gently and rested it back at his side. Where his hand flexed slightly at the interaction. He hadn’t had a charged physical attraction to anyone that wasn’t his wife lately. Unfortunately, those moments with his wife were becoming less frequent. And he’s never laid on finger on his secret valentine that was confined to his phone. This was different for him for sure, especially while intoxicated with a cross of weed and alcohol. his favorite mix.

He tried to behave his gaze because even though he believed he could be found attractive to anyone, he didn’t want to act on it if he was wrong. No, he didn’t want to act on it because it’d be wrong to do so, because he was lawfully bound. He rubbed his free hands on his pants at the tops of his thighs before smoothing out the velvet. “So, since you can’t have me on the couch, where’s that vent?” He questioned, tearing his eyes from her curves that so intimately spoke to him. He craned his neck up to see the chandelier lighting fixture but none were the exhaust she mentioned. He looked at her again for an answer. But he honestly, didn’t care if he smoked out the restroom. He’d happily continue to get absolutely loaded on the couch. But now it was lady’s choice.

What is your biggest fear, and what would you do if it came true?

Leo's currently in the midst of living out his biggest fear. He's just waiting for the other shoe to drop. He had his fun with his mistress, a little too much, that it resulted in him becoming a father. Leo had never thought about having children before and he had suddenly became one in a hospital room with his mistress and ex girlfriend present. But still his wife hasn't found out and that is his biggest fear of all, for the woman he asked to marry him - find out who he actually is. And what does the coward plan to do? Hide. Whether that'd be emotionally or physically or mentally. Leo's been drinking to cope.

“Whatever lifts the weight off your conscience is enough, I’m sure,” Román mused without much attention diverted from his slip of paper, before he realised he was being stared down quite pointedly. He looked up, the mask blank as ever, hiding the quirked eyebrow underneath its untelling face. “That’s why anyone donates, isn’t it?” A cynical way of thinking, but one he’d adopted about a decade ago now, anything to ease his conscience. “No good deed goes unpunished, and all that,” Román said, “Personally, I hesitate to donate to most charities, considering how much of the money usually goes into ‘administrative costs’.” He glanced over at the woman on the other side of the table, and smiled politely as ever. She probably heard. Oops.

Leo nodded, liking the way this stranger had articulated the reasons to donate and ultimately why not to donate. Leo found himself sharing more of the same ideals, which made him understand his own resistance. from the moment he stepped into the opulent ball, he could see  where the money had truly been going to. Plus Leo had actual experience with being one of the children that the charity was supposedly helping. he straightened up, abandoning his slip and pen on the table. “The conscience thing is what I’m sure keeps churches’ lights on.” He offered, letting the other masked man know they were on the same wavelength. When it came to administrative costs, the other had hit the nail on the head. “No, I think you’ve got that completely right.” Leo said, not catching on that what was being said was in front of a woman who was probably benefiting from those administrative cost. The polite smile that the other had thrown her way was lost on Leo. Which was obvious with the way he kept on going. “I especially hate it when charities showboat like this, when the money could go straight to their cause and not some ball.” His hands opened in front of him, gesturing to the spectacle of their setting. “Is my money going to the kids or to the bar? Cause I’m likely to donate to the latter, I must say.”

location: the masquerade, after the secrets have been revealed

A lithe finger lifted to tuck a braid back into the bun that rested atop her head. Alaska, much like the others at the event, had been feeling elegant, and was trying to let that feeling overpower the irritation she felt with her husband. How they’d arrived to the venue and he was already drunk. How he never seemed to stop glancing at his cellphone—like clockwork, she would hear it buzz in his pocket, and he’d wait exactly a minute, then turn away so to conceal who he was talking to, and a moment later, his fingers would tap against the screen.

She didn’t even want to confront the idea that he could be cheating on her. The thought alone, though held like anticipation in her chest, was too heavy to bear witness to. To accept in any capacity. Even if she’d had suspicions for so long. In too many ways it always felt like she and Leo were untethering, and now she didn’t know the man she begged to look at her in therapy. To see her. Hear her. Just listen. And care.

But Leo didn’t seem to care about much at all anymore, except that dirty bar on ninth street. At least, that’s how Alaska felt anymore, and she stared back at her reflection in the bathroom’s mirror with a sort of hollowness. Like his love, so frayed and incomplete now, sunk straight into her pores and weighed her down from the inside out. The woman inhaled a small breath, washed her hands, and then smoothed down her dress. The clack of stilettos against the tile announced her return to her husband, and for a moment she just observed him, watching him drink. Wondering if this was the existence he wanted more than anything she could give to him. Before she could actually go and try to talk to him again, her own phone pinged now. The concession of messages that flooded through her phone made her eyebrows furrow inward, and she stared quietly down at each one until his name—and another woman’s—popped up. Conjoined. For a moment she just stared at the phone, disbelieving, with her lips fallen apart in shock. Then, as quickly as the tide, tears welled up in her eyes. “You did—what?!” she suddenly came out, viciously, against the anger and anguish suddenly setting her entire body alight. The betrayal heavy in every nerve. “Who is she, Leo?! Who is ‘Gisele’?!”

Leo turned his head when he heard the familiar click of Alaska’s heels come to a halt. He watched his wife began to scrutinize her phone. Nano second later, his phone vibrated continuously on the bar’s countertop. He flipped it over and it shook in his hand, as a series of text messages from an unknown number kept going on and going. He glanced through them; seeing the names of colleagues, friends, and acquaintances. Each text reading like soap opera nonsense to him. There was no way any of it could be true…

Until he got to his own known name, and it was coupled with Gisele’s. His brain stitched the image of her name and her body so well. It lingered there as his mind protected him from the reality of what was happening as long as it could. And suddenly, breaking through his thoughts, her voice struck down at him like a bolt of lightening. His own nightmare was right in front of him. He had been caught. He recoiled from her feeling her anger and pain lash out towards him. Instinct took over, in order to live through this situation was to deescalate it as quickly as possible. “Alaska, love, please.” He pleaded loud enough to get through to hers but kept his tone calm. Staying controlled despite the radical pace his mind was racing in order to find a way out of this. He knew what was said was a lie. He did not have sex with Gisele. Though his encounter with her was anything but innocent, he was innocent by the technicality that he didn’t go all the way. He played his fear out as if it were pain, and anguish began to materialize within him. She had believed a rumor so incredibly easy. Were they at that stage now? She’d easily trusted anyone else besides him?

“Baby calm down,” he cooed reaching out to try to control her before she drew in more attention. His hands hovering over the frames of her shoulders, keeping his distance just in case. “Why are you so quick to believe these texts?” He questioned gently though skillfully turning the accusation back on her. How was it so believable for her to trust a spammed message? It hurt to see how sure she was to believe in the worst in him. He continued on to answer her question with his version of the truth. “I’ve only just met this Gisele tonight when I went to donate.” He said, keeping every bit of the truth far away from what he was telling her.

Annie’s face lit up when the man agreed to eat some wings with her. She was honestly expecting him to tell her to fuck off, so that was a very pleasant surprise. And when he introduced himself as well, she smiled warmly and nodded her head, “Leo. Lovely name. I had a friend growing up whose name was Leo.” She paused, “Well, is Leo. He’s not dead.” She paused, “I don’t think so, at least… I’m sure he’s fine. We used to go roller skating around London together.” She giggled fondly at the memory as she sat down in the seat beside him.

Bar stools were always kind of fun. They rotated so she was able to spin a bit as she sat there beside Leo. Hearing his comment, she laughed and nodded again before she shrugged, “I…yes, I do.” Annie told him, “You’re not the first to tell me either.” It was those people who also told her she was overtly annoying, which hurt her feelings but she never told them that. They didn’t deserve that satisfaction, “I know I’m a lot…but I just like to smile and spread that around, you know?”

As the beer was set down in front of Leo, she thanked the bartender and turned her gaze towards him. Her brow furrowed as he spoke and immediately, she felt a wave of anxiety wash over her, “Oh…oh, no. I’m s-sorry. R-Really.” Immediately, she reached over and pulled the beer away from the man and turned around in her chair, hoping she could find someone else to give it to. Annie didn’t really drink beer either but she figured most people did and it was safe choice. Pulling herself from the stool, she approached another man and offered him the beer, saying it was ordered by a mistake. He accepted it and turned back to his friend with a shrug.

As she approached Leo once again, her hands rubbed together nervously and she gingerly sat down beside him. She wasn’t happily spinning this time. She was just still, looking at her hands, “I should have asked what you wanted. That is my fault. I’m sorry.” Annie’s gaze didn’t move from her hands. It just remained there as she waited to be screamed at by Leo like her ex-husband would do whenever she made a mistake like that. She was used to it by now.

Leo had stifilled his laughter as she rambled on about another Leo. He mentally tilted his hat to the other man who was still alive, sharing his name. “I believe you.” He said, again holding his laughter in his chest when he heard that he wasn’t the only one who could tell how cheerful she was. She was like the golden sun herself in human form. He was sure if he squinted enough, she had sun rays.

Leo’s interest was peaked again by how immediately remorseful she was. She kept doing that to him. Dragging him back before he could get out. And he couldn’t help, but like that. Although, the longer he watched her, he could see that his bratty nature wasn’t taken lightly as he quietly intended. Once again, he was too abrasive. His humor too dry. He couldn’t think of anything else that would cause that reaction. He was rude, that’s all he at least knew about himself. he worried about previously about snuffing out her light, and it had materialized right in front of him, because of him.

His lips had parted to protest her getting up to give the beer to some lucky bastard. She didn’t have to jump to such lengths. Leo was close with the bartender, and he could have done something. He continously watched Annie, closely now as she came back to their barstools. He took in her careful approach back in her seat next to him. His brown eyes not missing a thing as he leaned onto his arms on the countertop. It wasn’t lost on him that the sunny doe-eyed woman beside him had closed up. He didn’t know what it was or how he shifted from wanting the conversation to end-- to wanting to keep it going. It was now a game to make her laugh. “You didn’t have to do all that. Or apologize. I mean, please, buy me as many drinks as you want.” He playfully pleaded, his eyes widening at the notion. “But not beer, I’ve never been a fan, and I’m certainly at the age where I could grow a beer belly.” He explained, turning in his barstool even more towards her.  His body language completely open toward her as he made his self effacing joke. “If anything it’s my fault for not being a stereotypical male.” Again, he was joking but this time making him sound better than most men cause he believed it so. how poignant. “I don’t even like sports much either.”
