Reblogging so I can read this later :)
Interesting stuff!!!
Something I try to keep in mind when making art that looks vintage is keeping a limited color pallette. Digital art gives you a very wide, Crisp scope of colors, whereas traditional art-- especially older traditional art-- had a very limited and sometimes dulled use of color.
This is a modern riso ink swatch, but still you find a similar and limited selection of colors to mix with. (Mixing digitally as to emulate the layering of ink riso would be coloring on Multiply, and layering on top of eachother š)
If you find some old prints, take a closer look and see if you can tell what colors they used and which ones they layered... a lot of the time you'll find yellow as a base!
Misprints can really reveal what colors were used and where, I love misprints...
Something else I keep in the back of my mind is: how the human eye perceives color on paper vs. a screen. Ink and paint soaks into paper, it bleeds, stains, fades over time, smears, ect... the history of a piece can show in physical wear. What kind of history do you want to emulate? Misprinted? Stained? Kept as clean as possible, but unable to escape the bluing damages of the sun? It's one of my favorite things about making vintage art. Making it imperfect!
You can see the bleed, the wobble of the lines on the rug, the fading, the dirt... beautiful!!
Thinking in terms of traditional-method art while drawing digital can help open avenues to achieving that genuine, vintage look!
Beat Mega Man 9 Todayā¦
Iāve been stuck fighting this Wily Machine for a couple days now.
But finally the battle is won⦠that just leaves 10, 11, and āMegaman & Bassā for me to beat!
But man this Wily Machine was a PIECE OF WORK!
Itās up there difficulty wise, although I had no E-tanks and was low on Weapon energy, so itās not MM7 Final Boss level of difficulty, but itās somewhere up there⦠Although tbh I think I had more fun with 7ās Final boss⦠The weakness was more fun to useā¦
Anyway I decided to draw her because⦠because⦠because⦠beecause⦠beecauseā¦beecauseā¦
So the other day I went on a little trip down the old memory lane, and I remembered a particular show I used to watch all the time as a kid on boomerang back when cable was a thing⦠a little show called
Oh boy did this show have me by the shirt collar, I couldnāt get enoughā¦
Anyway fast forward to yesterday, and Iām diving into the old memory box, scouring the internet for some info so I could perhaps rewatch it, when low and behold I find out they ārebootedā it in the 90s as this
Now I was fully prepared to experience the classic āshow ruined by lazy reboot trendā weāve seen time and time again. But to my surprise itās actually quite enjoyable. A shame thereās only 13 episodes, (around 7 mins each). Or at the very least thatās all Iāve managed to find. Itās a lovely retelling of one of my favorite showsā¦
I do have one⦠slight comment⦠itās nothing really just⦠a small statement about⦠episode 4⦠The Queen Bea episode⦠why is it so⦠āchargedā?
Iām not complaining but⦠idk how to process this sceneā¦
You⦠were chosen⦠for a calling you may not understand yetā¦.

The Pikmaniac!
Crazy to think how a copy of pikmin 3 deluxe randomly just showed up in my basement.
Nobody in the house knows how it got there, so now I just have a copy of pikmin 3 in my room with an unknown origin.
Youāve gotta make your bed with the sheets REALLY tight
And then you just Sliiiiiide in⦠off to dreamland :)
Wish I could hop into my bed like they do in paper marlio
No big post today, but I beat Mario 64 and got all 120 stars! āļø
Some comments:
- The 100 coin stars were the WORST part of this whole thing⦠especially in Tick Tock Clockā¦
- Shifting Sand Land was the stage that annoyed me the most⦠it felt very cramped because of the quicksandā¦
- The Red Coin stage near Tick Tock Clock with the Wing Cap was tough but oddly fun, I had to do it a couple times though cause I kept missing the clouds and running out of Cap time in the airā¦
- Bowser is REALLY hard to aim when swinging, I usually only picked him up close to the explosives for the fight but thatās not really an option for the final battle⦠also is it just me or is his model in this game kinda⦠cute??? Like a Toy Dino
- That ending caught me for a LOOP when Peach started talking, āfull spoken sentences??? In my Mario game!ā In all seriousness why have they never brought this back? A Mario game with full spoken dialogue would be great! Well⦠you donāt have to voice EVERYONE⦠but some characters would be niceā¦
Overall 9/10
Fun game but when itās tough it is TOUGH, also turning around is always riskyā¦
Just for curiosities sake, what does a good filler episode look like?
How do you differentiate between a worthwhile episode that serves as a break from the overarching plot where we can get to know characters on a deeper level,
compared to waste of time episodes that just irritate viewers wanting to get back to the main story?
Man is it just me or are a lot of TV shows nowadays are written to have big emotional episodes in scenes with very little build up.
