Catra couldn’t help but smile a little bit. Midna was indeed perking them up, a task which had felt impossible an hour ago.
Xe felt a bit odd when Midna linked arms with xem. It was rather intimate, at least in Catra’s opinion. Xe weren’t used to a lot of physical touch from people that weren’t Adora. But it was nice, and xe let Midna lead xem, enjoying the path and the silence.
Xe weren’t suprised though when Midna spoke up. Midna definitely had a way about her. She seemed to be good at drawing Catra out of xir shell.
“Still at the B&B,” Catra said. “I hadn’t bothered looking for a place of my own, given that I was determined to get the hell out of here. But I suppose I should start looking now that I’m most definitely stuck.”
Understanding what Catra meant, Midna nodded. Everything about arriving in this place was stressful, and she couldn’t blame them for stubbornly trying to abandon the place.
“I suppose you should,” she agreed. “Places here aren’t hard to come by. There's a bunch of different options, and someone is always looking for a roommate. I’m sure you’ll find something soon enough. You can at least make yourself comfortable while you try and plan a break out or while you wait for your friends to show up.”
It wasn't long before they were nearing one of the roads into town. There wasn't anyone on the street that Midna could see, but that was to be expected at this time of night. The moon was high, and the hour was getting late. This was admittedly her favorite way to see Sallow Hills— blanketed by the soft glow of the moon. It was the closest to the feeling of home she could get.

HER EYES WERE RATHER PRETTY. in the sense that dean would probably end up drawing them, or drawing something inspired by them. It wasn’t every day that you met someone with purple eyes, though truth be told he was surprised it didn’t happen more often in the Wizarding World. Magic would make it so easy. ❝ I mean, you add on that the no-nose guy was also the worst kind of person and started two wars - yeah no ballads written about him. Stories to scare children and war songs, maybe. ❞
ART DID COME FROM FEAR AS MUCH BEAUTY, but the art that came from fear was so often kept locked away. Dean knew it too well, from personal experience. The nightmarish drawings in his sketchpad that he never flipped back to from the months on the run. From the months after getting back home.
❝ WANDS DON’T SEEM POPULAR IN THIS TOWN, ❞ dean said, taking his time to feel over each piece that was there. ❝ Which I get, but it’s kinda a shame. There’s a lot of beauty in wand work. I find beauty in all kinds of magic, though. Suppose that’s why I have this project. ❞
Yennefer shrugged, because in all honesty she knew very little about the composition of music. She had never paid it too much mind, though there were a few ballads written about her back home. Dean’s attention wasn't the first captured by her vibrant eyes and dark hair, and his wouldn’t be the last.
“Personally,” the woman said as she adjusted a few items on a nearby shelf, “I’ve never felt wands to be of much use for the form of magic I channel. They limit my capability. But, I have met a few who were aided by it. Many people, and I use that word loosely here, in this town, they don’t just use magic, but they are magic. A concept I, myself, find very interesting.”
She looked to him, then to the display he was combing through. She had never been fond of wand work, so it was intriguing to glimpse even a small part of the process. “It sounds a quite interesting concept to make a piece on. I applaud it-- or I would, if I was the applauding type.”

wickedpotions:
IVY HADN’T FELT HERSELF SINCE HARLEY HAD COME INTO THE SHOP. harleen, because this town and this life was insufferable and was never kind to ivy. She was trying here, to some degree. She was trying to not go around killing every person who looked at a plant wrong, which was why she’d isolated herself so much. She didn’t interact with many customers, she lived by herself in the woods, she ventured into town sparingly. But since Harleen’s appearance, she’d been more irritable. Customers breathing wrong had her itching to stick something poisonous in their plant’s soil. To swap their pretty red rose for something a bit more toxic.
WHICH WAS WHY SHE’D LOCKED HERSELF AWAY IN WHAT SAM CALLED THE DANGER ROOM. it was an apt name, if a bit on the nose for ivy’s liking. You don’t label your plots with big red letters, but she supposed this wasn’t a plot. She liked the danger room - the plants too dangerous to not be regulated. Her babies, and her projects.
SHE DIDN’T REACT AT FIRST WHEN THE DOOR OPENED. only one other person had a key. She misted a few more of the plants before she lifted her head to look at Samwise. She tried to put on her best irritated face, though she knew there were cracks. Like there were always cracks around Selina. ❝ Have you tracked me down to help with a project or to talk? ❞

Having another member on staff was much better than Sam could have hoped for. It helped to balance his life out (not that he had much of one outside of the Nursery in this place). He didn’t have to stress half as much to ensure everything was growing, properly inventoried, and being sold as he had before. It was very nearly perfect. Nearly.
The only bump in the road was his new employee’s… bristly nature, but even that didn’t phase Samwise too much. He could talk to anyone about anything, so he kept faith she would warm up to him soon enough.
Ivy had a magnificent hand with the flora, which surpassed even his at times. Which is why, after closing shop for the day, he went to see if she would be willing to lend him a hand. He thought it slightly odd that she liked to be locked away with their most dangerous crops, but there were much larger things he had to worry about than that. He rapped on the door with his knuckle before going in, typical genial smile on his face. “A little of both, I’d say. Though, shops closed for the day, so you’re free to go if you want, Miss Ivy.”
I think I just saw Samwise Gamgee (he/him, cis man, 39). he’s a canon character from lord of the rings. have you heard he remembers most things from his previous life? he appeared here in June 2021 after having a quiet night in with his partners in bag-end. now he’s working as the owner of the Dwarven Nursery. still, he does have that heart of gold, summer rain shower, green-thumb vibe about him.

Can you tell me your name?
“Samwise Gamgee, but my friends call me Sam
Where are you from?
“Hobbiton-- that's in the West Farthing of the Shire
What’s the last thing you remember?
“I was just finishing the washing up after dinner [post returning from the quest]-- talking to Rosie and Frodo you see. I think... oh doesn’t matter.
We have a history of memory loss here. Do you feel as if you may be missing some memories?
“I wager there are some things missing. There's a lot that's fuzzy.
Have you found a job here in Sallow Hills?
“I took up running the Dwarven Nursery. I’ve always enjoyed working with greenery.
What was the strangest thing you saw before arriving here?
“I think its best not to talk about it.
What traits would your friends give to you?
“Brave, I think. Eager to learn, but not always to act. Levelheaded.
Is there anything else you would like to say?
“My old Gaffer always said ‘keep your nose out of trouble, and no trouble will come to you.’ I try to live by that.

“Two? Oh wow look at you go” Zelda said and giggled. It was good to know that he did have people that he loved. Because she was pretty biased when it came to love. Without Link in her life he didn’t know how much of Hyrule and Sallow she could take. She would have just shut down and walked around an emotionless robot her entire life. Link had been their saving grace time and time again. It felt like whatever life threw their way, they could handle it alongside their blonde hero.
“Oh hold on you need some salt” Trying to stand up, she let out a low whimper and sat down again. Even though she was slowly getting better and stronger, she could still have moments when her body just begged her to sit still or lay in bed. They really did miss going to work and they did miss being able to do all the things they used to do. But now it felt like their life was put on hold all because of the actions of one man.
Looking down on the floor, they cursed under their breath when they felt tears roll down their cheeks. It was just so unfair. And sometimes it became too much for Zelda to handle because this should have never happened.
Zelda's comment made Sam chuckle. He supposed it was a bit amusing to think of. If you would've told him ten years ago that he would have the pair of them in his life like that, he wouldn't have believed you. He was a lucky hobbit, no doubt about it.
“Right, I do-“ he started, yet broke off when he heard the sound they made. “Zelda.”
In a moment, Samwise had set down everything in his hands and was at their side. He wiped the residual moisture from his hands before taking each of her shoulders in his grasp. The look he gave her was one of deep understanding.
He reached and tore a paper towel off of the roll, quickly handing it to her. He used his other hand to lift her chin as a parent would their child. That's when the realization suddenly hit him, the understanding of exactly why he was so concerned for this woman. For some inexplicable reason, she had made her way into his heart like that. All he could do about it was try and make sure she was alright. He tried for a comforting smile, and hoped it worked. “Deep breaths, that's it. No need for tears now.”

“No, not long, about a week I think. time is sort of just blurred at the moment” Jaskier took another deep drink, so much that he could risk drowning himself instead of his sorrows. “I had thought i’d be better at dealing with rejection and emotional pain by now, apparently not. Another, please barkeep”
Jaskier leans forward on the bar and breaths a heavy sigh. “as i’m sure you’re aware. Geralt has forgotten everything about the Continent, about me, you…” he paused. “even Cirilla… gods… destiny thou art a cruel bitch” he chuckles
With a nod of understanding, Yennefer watched the bard closely. Not scouring or scathing, just to take him in. The concept of being happy to see him would’ve been foreign to her younger self, but she supposed people changed with time.
Yennefer followed suit in relaxing herself. She leaned the slightest bit, but remained mostly upright to face him. She was quite aware of what he had to say. Cruelly aware, in fact. Geralt’s… everything had been wildly upsetting for her to go through (she had cried for gods’ sake— how embarrassing). Selfishly, she was glad that somebody else could understand her pain. She had gone through years of suffering on her own, shouldering the burden helped to diminish some of it.
“I know. It has Ciri devastated. It's not been easy for any of us. I’d accept it if it were just you, or even if it were me. But Cirilla? She's done nothing to-“ she cut herself short, taking a drink. “I don’t think destiny has ever cared about us, bard. No matter what your stupid show tunes have to say otherwise.”

KATE FINISHED WIPING DOWN YESTERDAY’S FACTOID OFF THE MINI CHALKBOARD SHE’D BOUGHT, and thumbed through her phone for the next one. It was one of her favorite bits of the White Rabbit during Pride Month - getting to share information to the community. When did the first gay bar open? 1936 - Mona’s 440 Club in San Francisco. The bell chiming pulled Kate’s attention away from the board, as she smiled at the woman who walked in.
❝ Welcome! We’re not too packed right now, but be warned - it’s poetry night tonight and I’ve had a lot of people promise to come. ❞

River had not had much time to explore town since she had arrived a few months back. Her job kept her busy making lesson plans, grading papers, and coming up with engaging activities for her students. She had heard people reference places here and there, and felt it was high time she actually got around to visiting some of them for herself.
Having decided to go to the White Rabbit after work was one of the best ideas she’d had in a long while. Upon entering it was easy to see why people liked the place so much. She couldn’t remember the last time she had been individually greeted when walking into a bar (but to be completely fair— River didn’t remember much of anything).
“Poetry night?” River flashed a smile, “I had no idea. How exciting!”

*̩̩̥͙ -•̩̩͙-ˏˋ⋆ ⋆ˊˎ-•̩̩͙- *̩̩̥͙
THE WOMAN WAS DRESSED INTERESTINGLY, TO SAY THE LEAST. not that zsasz had any place to talk with his nearly all-leather get up. Hers was certainly more fitting for a Welsh countryside town than his own, but he’d never been one to mind standing out in a crowd. In fact, it usually was quite the opposite. Zsasz knew how to use shadows and darkness to his aid, but also when to draw the eye of everyone around him.
HE PUT THE BOX OF GOOD ON THE COUNTER, raising a brow bone at kai who seemed to look up at him in question. He sighed. He supposed he and Oswald were spoiling the dragon a bit too much. ❝ Don’t you have a register to guard? ❞ Kai let out a snort, but did turn and head over to the small, purple pillow beside the cash register. With that, Zsasz turned his attention back to the woman.
HE TOOK THE KNIFE, CAREFULLY MOVING IT TO NOT CUT EITHER OF THEM. ❝ yes well, i suppose the knives either moved in transport or my shop assistant was messing around in the back and hoped i wouldn’t notice. Either way, thank you. If you feel I need to prove myself proficient at weapons, I’m always happy to give a demonstration. ❞ He spun the knife in his hand, getting it into a more comfortable grip. Quickly, he took aim at the board he had across the store for just this and sent the knife flying. It landed in the bullseye with a thunk. He gave a flourish of a half bow. ❝ Now, is there anything I can assist you with? ❞
⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰
Yennefer couldn’t help but to watch the dragon retreat to its spot beside the register. It was a mistake in the end, as the sight once again took her mind elsewhere. She was quickly brought back to the moment when he spoke once again.
She wasn’t sure if it had been the intention, but she wasn't intimidated or startled. In fact, she was far from it. For the first time since she had arrived in Sallow Hills, she was hit with a startling amount of familiarity. The way he dressed, the dramatics, the set up and contents of the shop: they reminded her of home. She could’ve sworn something identical had happened with Lambert when she was visiting Kaer Morhen once, but she didn’t want to dwell on it. She had business to do.
“Impressive. Though, I was making a joke.” A smirk grew on her face as she met his eyes, and there was a quirk to her brow in sudden intrigue of the man before her. Yennefer nonchalantly crossed her arms in front of her as she looked between him and the blade now protruding from the wall. “I’m new here. I don’t have any... guarantee of personal protection, and I should like to remedy that. What would you recommend?”
redainianbard:
Jaskier chuckled, “Judging on how we met, I thought I’d be dead by now and it is quite surprising how that has turned around. Quite recently, I might add and honestly it’s so much easier to get along with you when i’m drunk”. The bard picks up his lute and starts to pick the strings gently and with precision, although fumbling on a couple of notes as the spirits he’s been drinking go to his head. “Fuck, this shit used to be easy”
Nodding in amused agreement, the mage lifted her cup a bit in a silent toast to the sentiment, before she took a little drink. “What can I say, bard? I’m full of surprises.”
She watched him play with the instrument, snorting a little laugh each time he messed up the notes. She knew he was talented at it, even if she would never tell him as much. “So much for being a professional. Or maybe you simply cant handle your liquor.” She was teasing, but she wasn’t really one to talk as she could barely handle it herself. “Are you going to make everyone suffer through another tune, or are you feeling merciful on my ears?”

Listening to Sam talk about his job, Zelda smiled to herself. Sometimes they didn’t know how to cope with the fact that here in Sallow they were surrounded with people that cared for her and loved her. Back home in Hyrule she had to take care of herself, protect herself and be there for herself. That was until they met Link and everything just changed for the better.
This town had not only given her a sense of belonging but also given her the greatest gift of all; Link. Being able to be with him and actually be his was everything to Zelda. It had been a dream for so many years but now it was reality. Now they could kiss his lips and hold his hand, tell him that she loved him and sleep in his arms.
They were finally content. “Well I am happy that you have someone at work willing to help you. You deserve a helping hand”
⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰
As Sam continued his work with the vegetables, he nodded a soft smile to them. Maybe it wasn’t perfectly ideal to be in this town alone, but he was making do. The Shire would always be his true home, but Sallow Hills would do. He would make it so.
“Thank you Zelda,” he hummed, careful not to catch his fingers under the knife. “It's nice to have some more time to myself, even if there's nobody to share it with.” He said it, still with a little smile on his face, but it did make his chest ache a little to know there was no Frodo or Rosie here to share his time with. He missed them greatly, though he talked about them little. It hurt too much to stir up those feelings.
Changing the subject, he went on, “You know, I remembered something last night that I hadn't been able to the day before.”
