"Villain?" Civilian asked villain softly, twirling the ends of her hair in her fingers, her doe eyes casting up at villain.
Villain didn't respond, not turning to say anything to civilian or even casting her a simple glance. Civilian took his silence as an answer, knowing that villain never talked unless it was something important.
"Why did you become a villain?" Civilian questioned.
Once again, she received nothing but empty silence. She knew that villain and her weren't close, yet she longed to hear something from him. She couldn't hold back the raging feelings that churned restlessly inside of her as she stared at villain's unmoving back, waiting for a response.
Civilian let out a apologetic sigh. "Sorry–"
"I used to be a hero. " Villain cut in. Civilian instantly stopped herself from saying anything, her lips parting with anticipation as she waited for villain to continue.
"6 years ago I was a hero. " Villain continued, not turning around to look at civilian as if he was too embarrassed by the backstory. "But then I lost everything that I had: my family, my friends. . .my home. All because I had to save a group of people and everyone expected me to give up everything I have for other people. "
Civilian sucked in a sharp, painful breath.
"That day I realized something. " Villain spoke, his once rough voice now far and distant as if he was reliving memories that scarred him. "A hero sacrifices their loved ones for humanity. But a villain will sacrifice humanity for their loved ones. "
When villain finally stopped talking, civilian spoke in a gentle voice.
"Is that why you saved my life that day?"
But once again, her question was answered with nothing but painful silence.
julethief extra following up after this post .. because.. im feeling .. soft.…
trigger warning: swords, blood
The villain’s sword was slightly uncomfortable against their chin, the hero decided, as they knelt in front of them, the tip of it digging into their throat just enough to cause pain but not enough to draw blood. Their hands were bound behind them, and the angle of the sword forced their eyes up, to the villain’s. They were dripping blood and bruised and tired and on the business end of the sword, but they still managed a smile.
“Why are you smiling, little hero?” The villain’s cool voice washed over them. “I have you on the ground, defeated. There is nothing for you to smile about anymore.”
Their face was stone-cold; expressionless. The hero’s smile only grew and as they closed their eyes for a fraction of a second, memories speed ran through their mind—the delicate kisses, beautiful sunrises, the scent of orange blossoms, surprise hugs from behind, driving on the highway with all the time in the world—before they snapped back to reality.
“Oh, darling.” Their voice was almost considerate. “You’re not going to run me through with a sword. You love me still.”
The villain’s façade crumbled pretty quickly, after that.
Villains are complicated
Person A, kissing Person B's neck: I-it's not like I l-like you or anything...
Person B, chained to a chair: *is somewhat aroused* You're literally kissing me in an attempt to torture me, it's not working.
Person A, immediately tearing up: IM TRYING MY BEST, YOU DRAMATIC FUCK-
“You do everything for Hero, don’t you?” Villain patronized them, an unsettling grin rising on their face. Hero’s sidekick felt adrenaline course through them, already not liking the turn the conversation had taken. They kept silent, adamant not to give Villain the attention they so clearly wanted.
“You’re their soldier. You do anything and everything for Hero- you live and breathe for them.” Villain continued. Sidekick bit the inside of their cheek hard, restraining themselves from rising to the bait.
“If only they knew, how you feel about them.” Villain mocked, a deceivingly sympathetic expression on their face. Sidekick gulped, clenching their shaking fists.
“You know, Hero cares about me far more than they ever cared about you.” Villain continued. Sidekick rubbed their face, feeling the familiar burn of tears lingering at the back of their eyes. “You’ll never have a chance with them, and you know it.” Sidekick immediately felt what little self-preservation they had left disappear, and they launched themselves at Villain in a rage.
“Shut up. Just shut up!” Sidekick screamed, fists flying at Villain before they could even register what they were doing. Villain fell to the ground, but Sidekick didn’t care. They didn’t think, just punched and punched and punched-
“Sidekick?”
Sidekick froze, their fist only a couple inches from Villain’s beaten and bloody face. They turned around, heart pounding, and they met Hero’s shocked eyes. They glanced at Hero, at Villain’s barely conscious form behind them, and tried to come up with an explanation. Sidekick tried to talk but their mouth felt sewn shut. Their lips wouldn’t move, and all they could hear was the sharp ringing sound reverberating in their ears.
“Sidekick, what have you done?” Hero’s eyes were blown wide, a frightful expression on their face.
“No, wait, Hero, I-” Sidekick tried to justify, walking up to Hero and looking up at them.
“I don’t want to hear it.” Hero said with an icy tone, shoving them aside and walking over to Villain. Sidekick reeled back, the disappointment in Hero’s voice hurting more than any punch or blow could. They watched as Hero knelt down and touched Villain’s cheek in an intimate gesture that made Sidekick feel sick to their stomach. Villain was right. Shaking their head, Sidekick turned around and bolted, tears blurring their vision as their shoes slapped against the pavement.
The hero knew that the villain would never make such a dumb move to get caught but yet they did. Why tho? What was the reason? The hero wondered as they slowly turned their head to face the villain.
"choose your last words wisely." They said.
The villain laughed in the most maniac way possible but their eyes brimmed with water and yet they didn't let a drop fall from them.
"I wish to meet you again" They smiled hiding their emotions. Being as stoic as possible.
"Why would you wanna meet me agai-" Before the hero could complete their sentence, villain slowly crawled towards them barely able to stand up they put a finger on their lips causing the blood to stain on the hero's face as well.
Signalling the hero that those were their final words.
The hero noticed the teary eyes from this close but didn't know that they themselves were the reason behind those tears. They didn't know that villain regretted to not say those three words to them, that they regretted to not being able make 'good memories' with them. They just thought that the villain was mourning because they knew that they were gonna die.
As the hero was processing these thoughts in their head they heard a loud noise someone had fired a bullet right into villain's chest making them fall into the arms of the hero.
"Are you alright ?" The person asked while approaching to the hero.
"Yes" The hero replied slowly placing the villain down on the floor.
The villain peacefully closed their eyes after watching the hero hugging the person next to them. They could have been jealous but they were happy, that atleast they died in the arms of their lover.
Even if it was a one sided love.

"Hi, I'd like to shamelessly wingman myself to you."
i am this close to writing a book with the “hero gets betrayed countless times by the people they risk everything for and that one last blow just does it for them and they end up at villain's house, and villain says ‘they betrayed you, didn't they’ and hero just nods and after a few minutes of silence hero goes ‘i want revenge on them, all of them. not a petty, useless one; i want flames, i want war.’ and the villain who has been waiting for this the whole damn book goes ‘well then, my darling, then set it all on fire.’ ” trope
not a prompt, may actually write this but i can write something similar to this particular scene/trope
prompt: “I do not know what tomorrow will bring, but whatever happens, please… take care of my cat.”
She had an hour.
And she used to go to him.
Heroine stepped through the boy’s dorms as quietly and as quickly as she could. None of the guys were out, probably scared of the punishments for dismissing bed-time.
It didn’t matter to her.
In less than an hour, she would be too far away from the academy. Which was terrifying, but meant that she could forget about certain rules.
Just as she started to enjoy her little rebellious freedom, she found his dorm. The headboy’s dorm. Her sole rival.
The stakes were too high to care about whether or not she obeys bedtime.
She took out the key bunch she had in her pocket, which she was given by her homeroom teacher to help him ensure no troubles were made inside the dorms.
“The teacher’s bunch? hm, you know, acting like a complete nerd won’t help you become smarter than me.”
“Maybe. But it will help me sneak mice into your room.”
Now Rival will learn his lesson.
She searched for the right key and unlocked the door, a bit at unease from the audible sounds the lock made.
Surprisingly, the room was not entirely dark. Rival’s windows were open and the full moon shed some light inside.
He was not in his bed.
Instead, he was sprawled over his table, his neck placed on his bookand his back crooked onward. This did not seem comfortable. And it would hurt when he wakes up.
“How come no one invented a way to not be stiff after sitting…?”
“You mean like, stretching?”
“...”
“Nerd.”
She knew that this astronomy exam stressed everyone, but she didn’t imagine him like… He looked so tired. Perhaps she teased his last score too much.
and she had no time to help now.
I’m scared, too.
Heroine got closer to him, and raised her hand to his shoulder, but then froze.
He had enough to worry about, and she doesn’t know how he would react to her request- Nor what he will imagine is the reason for such a strange plea…
Right now, at least one of them got to rest.
But it wasn’t just her on the line anymore. She cannot just keep these problems to herself. And maybe, somehow, she had a feeling that he would rather know.
“Hey, Rival,”
She touched his shoulder lightly. It took a moment before there was any reaction. He groaned a bit, still resting his face above his arm. He turned to her side, opening his eyelids in a rusty way.
Heroine couldn’t help but smile at his widened, chestnut eyes.
“Heroine…?”
His voice was barely audible.
“Yes, it’s me. I came to… well…”
She took a moment to collect the right words. The stakes were high, but she couldn’t stress him more than needed.
He brought his head up and straightened himself. Looking right at her.
“What’s wrong?”
Nothing, yet. But not for long.
“I need a favor from you.”
He nodded slightly and waited. Looking more serious than she ever saw him.
She didn’t want this. She wanted to comment on his messy bed hair and banter and see his smirk and just go back to her normal life.
“I will leave the school for a while and… and I cannot take my…”
She took a big breath.
“My cat. She’ll have to stay here and she doesn’t trust anyone besides… Will you please…”
“I will take care of Nova.”
Rival tried to smile reassuringly, still looking a bit tense. But the promise meant the world to her.
Heroine smiled for a bit, too.
“Thank you, I don’t know what I… How would I leave without knowing she’s safe.”
But both of their smiles died down quickly.
“...where are you going?”
She inhaled, hoping to keep herself calm. And him, too.
“I do not know, but I have to. And… and I want to.”
He stared at her for a moment. He still looked tired, but also tense, and… and something else.
“Is it dangerous?”
Yes. I’m scared, Rival.
“I cannot tell you, Rival. This is my own problem.”
“Hero-”
“I never wanted to get you involved. But it’s… Nova, she doesn’t trust anyone besides me, and well…”
and you.
“You can get me involved in everything,”
He said, standing up and holding her gaze.
“Whatever this is, I can help. Please, I never saw you this anxious.”
He extended his hand towards hers, not quite touching, but closer than ever.
She closed the gap, holding his hand.
I’ll miss you, Rival.
Heroine then came forward, hugging him.
He was surprised, but accepting. Wrapping his arms around her himself. It felt nice and warm, and Heroine held him like she’d hold the last piece of normalcy she had.
Her clock buzzed. It was midnight.
“I need to go.”
Heroine said, not moving yet. She felt him sighning and nodding.
They slowly let go of each other, and Heroine took out the key bunch and gave it to him. For one last moment, he held her hands.
“I won't let you down. I’ll take care of her for as long as needed.”
“Thank you, Rival.”
Heroine started walking away, she opened the door, and looked back once more. Rival’s deep brown eyes were still on her. Still too fearful for her liking.
“I will come back, as soon as possible. Enjoy being the top student while you can.”
She meant it. She will return, maybe sooner than expected. She will come back and hug him again and banter and hold Nova and stress about their exams and everything will be normal.
He smiled at her, hope and playfulness in his eyes. That was how she wanted to remember him.
“Enjoy being a dork in the outside world, nerd.”
“Oh, I will.”
Heroine closed the door and went her way, walking with ease. Knowing that she will return She will come back to hug him again and banter and hold Nova and stress about their exams and everything will be normal.
knowing all of that, Heroine walked into the night with confident steps.
