I do have a few ideas floating around for after Switch. Most are oneshots but I do have an idea for a multi-chapter fic where Laurent is married to Torveld but it's toxic as hell (age gap, coercion, power struggle) and Damen ends up tangled in the middle of a cukolding/affair situation...

I'm still trying to get the dynamics pinned down properly, but if that's something you (or anybody reading this) would be interested in reading then let me know. 😅

Not to do the cringe *characters talking in the authors notes* thing but spellcheck just tried to change 'between Damen's legs' to 'between women's legs' in the chapter I'm writing and I felt Laurent's full-offence-taken in my very soul.

Not to be boring about it but I think Vere's acceptance would really hinge on public opinion of the alliance in general. If the Kingdom is thriving and the Veretian side accepted Damen's rule then there is a chance that attitudes might have shifted, culturally speaking, by the time the succession came up.

If not then I think you'd get some real pushback, they'd likely see Laurent's marriage as a pretty flimsy reason to be ruled by an Akielon-Vaskian.

Although I am partial to the idea of Laurent taking Damen's son under his wing (even if he chooses not to parent) and making sure he's more than ready if it's an uphill battle. He has the experience having his own claim in question and the drive to honour Damen's line. If anybody was going to pull it off...

(Plus imagine some old Veretian politician trying to argue this son's illegitimacy, only for him to open his mouth and spew out the most Laurent-coded tongue lashing anybody has heard in years. Jaws hit the floor. Inheritance secured.)

So the only other option is for Damen to sire an heir. But I don' see him doing the ykkkk deed with anyone.

But he did sleep with the tribe women. And if the children are male the Vaskians don't want them.

So my solution for them would be to take in the boys damen sired. Boom! Everyone happy.

There's no schedule for updates (sorry!) When I'm really on a roll I've been known to get a chapter out every two weeks but sometimes life happens or a chapter decides to be tricky and I fall behind my goal. Hopefully the wait is worth it!

BG3 has me in a chokehold so hear me out on a concept: The Regent as a warlock patron posing as Laurent's Uncle in public. Laurent wanted to be a wizard when he grew up but Auguste was gone and he needed help fast. Now the only way out of his pact is with the help of Damianos Prince-Killer.

Yes and it's so well-managed in relation to Damen’s bisexuality too because (at least as far as I remember) he doesn't allude to Laurent being feminine. He's so clearly attracted to him as a man we're never getting the impression that he views him in some kind of best-of-both sense and that's so refreshing.

I also like to think about how Laurent passably playing Jokaste has implications for how strong the feminine beauty ideal looks in Akielos, which is also a wonderful thing.

i'll forever love that c s pacat is bold enough to make laurent being androgynous effeminate canonical so much so that he's able to pass as jokaste with flying colors and even gets complimented on 'her' beauty. it's so rare to find a character like him. beautiful things happen when genderqueer writers play with gender expression in their books thank you pacat!!

Seconded and adding the image of Laurent, frustrated with the eye-strain, dropping his book of choice into Damen's lap one evening with an "Attend me."

Damen indulges him by reading aloud but when he suspects Laurent has drifted off or isn't paying attention anymore he makes increasingly unlikely additions to the text. If Laurent notices and wants to varify Damen's claims he should really try the lovely magnifier his husband got him for his birthday...

i think often about damen and laurent growing old together—imagine this; laurent’s trying to read his novels in the palace library but finds himself struggling due to his waning eyesight. Damen teases him that he should start using a magnifying glass and tells him about an exciting new development where you can physically place them on your face (the modern equivalent of eyeglasses) Of course Laurent is just as stubborn as Damen and loathes the idea…

Look I know I have no business devoting more brainpower to this or making it serious for no reason but I have come to the conclusion that Laurent was a fan of Damen's show until they killed off his favourite character (who reminded him of Auguste). He's got a detailed list of why it was a terrible, dumb plot point. He won't let Damen hit that unless he publicly 'spoils' that the Prince isn't really dead.

Okay hear me out: Laurent and Nicaise cosplaying Howl and Markl (flawlessly). Damen is a pannelist for some show he works on and he doesn't get a lot of this geek culture stuff but damn that guy over there was hot. Hello hot costumed stranger. I'll totally watch Ghibli if it'll get you back to my hotel room.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when Laurent was picking out his chiton because I need to know if somebody brought that to him as a sincere option or if he had to request it.

Like one minute this poor Akielon attendant or what have you thinks he's going to get eviscerated for suggesting this tightly laced Prince show some ankle and the next Laurent is like "And how much thigh can I justifiably have out?"

Headcannon that in public Damen uses Laurent's titles and refers to him as ‘his majesty’ as much as possible because his lover got undermined as future King too much and he simply will not tolerate The Disrespect.  

On the flipside Laurent will drop a ‘my intended’ or ‘my husband’ with the frequency of that One Girl from highschool who needs to get her engagement ring into every photo.
