I’m Currently In A Year With Frog And Toad (the Musical) And Seeing As We Open Tomorrow Night I Feel

I gotta say it's poetic that song #100 on my youtube recap is Saturday by Fall Out Boy. My playlist ends the same way as a Fall Out Boy concert. Couldn't've planned it better.

So I did some Oswald Cobblepot-inspired nail art last month for Halloween and I thought it would be a nice way to kick off my tumblr :) The left hand features a penguin, an umbrella, and some pinstriping; the right hand’s a bit simpler since I’m right handed, but I tried to make a brocade pattern like Oswald’s ties and a glitter ombre like his glitter coat. (In case it wasn’t clear, I’m talking about the Gotham TV version of the Penguin.) 

Also, yes, these are my real nails, and my left thumbnail was over an inch long (cuticle to tip) at the time. Fun fact: I changed a flat tire that month, fabulous nails and all (though I did have a few chips to patch after that). 

I took a multitude of pictures--literally hundreds--but the top coat I used was so shiny a bunch of them had a glare, but I guess what I’m trying to say is, if you want to see more pictures or a close-up of any nail in particular, let me know, because I have plenty :) I should also probably share the tutorial I followed for the penguin nail and the other nail art I used for inspiration.

I only have the finale episode of Wolf 359 left and I don’t know if it will have a happy ending or not and I’m a bit afraid to listen to it. I hope Eiffel makes it home to his little girl... 

Beautiful moodboard, by the way. It really captures that loneliness and guilt that underlies all the space drama and humor. Or, to put it in the modern parlance, this hits me in the feels.

Oooh, I hadn’t necessarily considered the Bruce/Martin parallels in Gotham... Very clever. I do hope we get to see more of Martin in season 5, though I know things are a bit squished.

Anyways, I’ve reblogged something on the eve of opening night for the past two shows I’ve been in, so I guess it’s a tradition now! Unlike with Frog and Toad and Almost, Maine, I didn’t happen upon something for Mamma Mia naturally, so I had to go seek this one out, but it’s very pretty and tranquil. Happy opening night eve! 

Mamma Mia (2008)

Mamma mia! This means literally, my mother, but it is definitely a term that can express everything from exasperation to wonder.

Honestly I learned most of what I know from youtube roller skate channels like Indy Jamma Jones and Queer Girl Straight Skates! They have a lot of really helpful videos for beginners. This video from Indy was like my very first starting point; she talks about focusing on shifting your weight with your feet in a V rather than just pushing off, and thinking about it that way really helped me start to move forward without falling over.

Also, PSA, one of the first things a friend on discord told me was to always wear your wrist guards because you're most likely to break your wrist trying to catch yourself if you fall skating. Knee pads are really good too and you can use them for emergency stopping when you're starting out as well. All pads and helmets are useful in their own ways, but even now when I'm pretty comfortable and I sometimes skate without a helmet or knee pads, I still always wear the wrist guards.
