Oooh, I hadn’t necessarily considered the Bruce/Martin parallels in Gotham... Very clever. I do hope we get to see more of Martin in season 5, though I know things are a bit squished.
THE SON OF GOTHAM // THE PRINCE OF GOTHAM
Yeees, this is the parallel that immediately came to mind for me too! Oswald is speaking Ed’s language now :) Or perhaps he actually has believed in fate all along.
Either way, I do hope Ed noticed and appreciated that particular turn of phrase. I think it’s reasonable to imagine he picked up on it, given how word-oriented he is; surely word choice like that doesn’t slip past someone who spends so much time and effort manipulating words via riddles.
Anyways, I’m just thrilled to see them back together again :) Huzzah for Nygmobblepot submarine adventures!!
Fate
I’m happy I can find Atlantis appreciation here! I always loved it. I’m pretty sure I still have my Kida and Milo barbies somewhere around here...
And, I know not everyone is crazy about the current trend of live-action Disney remakes, but can you imagine how epic a live-action Atlantis would be?! Just putting that out there...
i don’t understand why atlantis isn’t more popular of a movie
i mean
amazing and unique art style
spot-on humor
strong, badass female and/or POC characters
awkward but incredibly intelligent lead that isn’t conventionally attractive
COOKIE
history jokes that you won’t catch as a kid
MOTHER
FUCKING
WILHELMINA BERTHA PACKARD
did i mention
BADASS AF FEMALE CHARACTERS
AND MULTIPLE POC CHARACTERS
WHO BREAK STEREOTYPES LEFT AND RIGHT
i just have a lot of feelings about atlantis and i think it needs more love than it gets
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, 1.16 ‘There Goes The Neighborhood’
I can’t say I’ve ever really been in a fandom at the end of its show, either, but I feel like there will always be something here. I mean, realistically, I would guess that the fandom will go on at full strength for at least a few months to a year after The End as we all digest and respond to it. After a while, I imagine it will taper off some, but I don’t think it will ever go away entirely. I suppose it varies from fandom to fandom, but there are plenty of old fandoms out there that keep lingering around. After all, when you love something hard enough to go full fandom over it, I think it will always hold a special place in your heart, and you’ll come back to it, and that will probably include a fair number of us in the fandom. I feel like the Gotham fandom is a particularly tight-knit community, from what I’ve encountered.
I feel you, though. I just binged Gotham this summer so I’m still sort of new here, too. It’s kind of weird just jumping into a fandom at the end, but, well, I guess it’s also an exciting time to be a fan? It’s so strange feeling this secondhand sadness as we watch the cast and crew say goodbye to the show a month before the end even starts for us. At least we won’t be able to binge this last season, so while I watched four years worth of Gotham in two weeks this summer, season 5 will last over two months. So there’s still a lot to look forward to, and I for one don’t plan on leaving right when it ends :)
Ive never been in a fandom to watch it end. Whats it like? Do people just kinda leave if theres no new content? I really hope not because Im pretty new to the gotham fandom and im gonna stay here after it ends so I was hoping most people wpuld do the same but again, I dont know.
Merry Christmas from the Christmas Wilf :)
Also remember the other day when I said Leela was on my top 10 companions list? Wilf is definitely on the list as well. (Actually, who am I kidding, there’s no way I could actually pin it down to a top 10 list. But Wilf is still one of my favorite companions.)
ain’t no party like a wilfred mott christmas party
How about... a Time Agent with a banana instead of a gun?

This is so warm and sunshiney and tranquil--just a generally lovely use of color and mood. And of course, a peaceful morning for these two is long overdue!
Just a slow morning off. :)
I’m currently in A Year with Frog and Toad (the musical) and seeing as we open tomorrow night I feel obligated to reblog this. The cookies song is so much fun (actually the whole musical is, but ‘Cookies’ is the pinnacle of the hyper five-year-old energy), and since we started rehearsing with real cookies I’m eating so many cookies in the name of theatre. It’s awesome :)
Also the cookies song is going to be stuck in my head for the next 50 years. “Cookies cookies cookies cookies, we go cooky eating cookies! Maybe we should stop... let’s have moooore!”
adulthood is just a constant struggle of, “man, i want cookies for breakfast, but I also recognize this is a bad nutritional decision. On the other hand, the only one who can stop me is me. i know that fucker’s weaknesses. i could totally take me in a fight.”
Well... heck. My mom literally just called me and told me this was happening (”I know it meant a lot to you when we visited it, so I wanted to let you know”, she told me) and I just... didn’t really know how to react. Honestly, I opened tumblr to kind of distract myself, but then I suppose I am glad to know some more facts and specifics on exactly how bad it is.
I did look up the video of the tower collapse, too. Wow. It does feel like a gut punch to watch.
But I am glad most of the stone structure of the building should be alright. I was in first grade when we visited it, and I would love to go there again; I know you can’t exactly order a new church spire online, but hopefully they can get it fixed.
Thank you for the information. My prayers are with you.
notre dame is burning.
this is ok.
it has happened before. it will happen again. it has been lost before. it will be lost again. and again. and again. and again. art and architecture are transient, and temporary, and 850 years may seem like a lot to the individual, who will live maybe 100 if they are very lucky and very healthy, but even the pyramids at saqqara have only existed for about 6000 years and that’s still not all that much, if you consider the grand scheme of things.
yes, this is terrible. as someone who is deeply religious and literally a professional historian with a focus on art and architecture, this is terrible. im mourning. im gutted. im horrified and upset and miserable. but.
it’s not over.
victor hugo wrote hunchback because notre dame du paris was in the process of collapsing and falling apart, and revitalized the entire world’s focus and love for this church, and that was not even 200 years ago. it led to it being renovated.
the roof has fallen in. the scars of fires are on its buttresses. the rose window has fallen out. the beams and piers have collapsed. the spire has toppled. the stones have suffered, and will suffer again, but it is not gone.
renovation work is essential. sometimes things collapse and burn and break and have to come back. it’s not a terrorist attack, it’s renovation, an accident, but we have so much evidence, history, carefully documented everything on one of the most studied places in the world.
it’s not the end.
