The joint operation begins in 15 minutes.
Hero gulps nervously. Their hands are sweaty, body jittery. They're pretty new to this whole hero thing, and this is just their second operation, and already the hero organization wants them to work on a joint operation with a vigilante.
Hero doesn't understand, are they evil or not? Should I be scared or no? Their mind starts spiraling. If they're cooperating with the heroes, they can't be that bad right? Hero shakes their head a little, as if to stop thinking. I'm just being silly, I'll know if I meet them.
Hero takes brave steps, making it to the rooftop to get some air first and then they would meet vigilante-
Oh no, they're here too.
It's hard to miss them really- wavy raven curls, a lean but muscular build, and their costume... hero really likes it. Hell, they want to take them to the support people who engineer hero costumes right now and show them all this masterpiece. Hero unconsciously lets out a tiny squeal and immediately puts both hands on their lips, wanting to just disappear into the ground.
Vigilante whisks their head around- eyes sharp, muscles tense, registering someone else's presence on the rooftop. Their body goes lax when they see it’s only the newbie hero.
"Hey, hero."
Hero drops their hands to their side and gives them their brightest smile. They knew that headquarters didn't really want the heroes having much contact with any person on the other side of justice, but this is a joint operation after all, so there's no harm right? Plus they did have to work together, so a good first impression is vital.
Vigilante freezes momentarily. A hero is smiling at me? They almost want to laugh. This is new, all of them generally snarl or sneer. They look into hero’s eyes - it’s such a straightforward gaze, one without any sort of ill intent, that vigilante feels the need to look away. How long has it been since someone looked at me like that? They can’t remember.
Hero walks over and sits next to vigilante. "Hey", they say in a quiet voice, still not over their embarrassing episode. Vigilante pays no mind to that though, thoughts still reeling with how to deal with this new hero.
"So," vigilante begins awkwardly, "did you need something?"
Hero just blinks at them, trying to register that question in their head. Then it finally hits them. If the heroes before them didn't talk to vigilante, of course vigilante wouldn't have talked to them beyond necessities either. That's not nice. Hero wants to change that.
"No, nothing. I just wanted to talk with you."
Talk? They just want to talk with me?
"So... you don't need anything from me but you just want to talk with me."
Hero tilts their head adorably, as if thinking about that statement. It does unspeakable things to vigilante's chest.
"Yes, is that... I don't know, against the rules or something?" Hero tries to joke, but it comes out a little shaky.
Vigilante smiles, secretly praying that it looks like one, "No, it's not. It's just... different."
Hero didn't need to look at the shape of their lips to know what vigilante was feeling. They could hear it in their voice- a tinge of pain.
Hero doesn't know anything about vigilante yet, but you don't have to know someone's history to make them smile right? Every person deserves to smile, at least that's what hero thinks. So, they're determined to do that, again and again.
"So, is this different, in a good way or a bad way?"
Vigilante thinks about it for a minute.
"In a good way." Their lips curve happily this time and hero secretly takes pleasure in it.
Vigilante definitely looked so much better with a smile on their face.
Hero’s smile matches vigilante’s - happy and satisfied.
-
The alarm goes off. They have to get in position now.
But there's something still bugging vigilante. They swallow a bit of their pride to ask, what's probably the most silliest thing that they've ever wanted to ask someone-
"Hero, wait."
Hero stops in their tracks, a few feet away from the exit door, turning back to look at vigilante.
"Why, um, why did you... smile?"
Hero chuckles heartily and vigilante's cheeks turn redder by the second. The tone is soft and sweet, not condescending, so vigilante doesn't mind at all. In fact, they think that they could even get used to hero’s laughter, and maybe, they’ll end up liking it someday.
Hero’s eyes don't leave vigilante while they think of an answer in their head. The hero organisation must be crazy, because how else can they label this person as evil?
" You don’t really need a reason to smile, you just smile if you feel like it, that’s all. But if you really want to know, smiles are something that reflect one another- that’s the nice thing about them. So I smiled, because you did.” They pause for a second. “ But even if you didn’t, I would have smiled anyways, because I wanted to.”
Hero grins as if to reinstate their point and vigilante smiles back, only then realising that they've been doing it unconsciously. It just felt foreign, but in the best way.
Vigilante looks like they’re trying to understand a math problem and hero thinks it’s the cutest thing. "You're right. That makes sense."
Vigilante holds out their hand and hero looks at them questioningly.
"Come on, this way is faster", they point towards the edge of the rooftop.
Hero feels like their heart is going to fly right out of their mouth if they don't close it, so that's what they do. They keep their lips sealed as vigilante effortlessly scoops them up in their arms and jumps off the rooftop, their powers immediately coming to life. It makes hero wonder just how many times they've done this.
Hero can literally see their superiors in their head, hurtling curses at them for allowing a situation like this to happen. They look at vigilante's face from the corner of their eyes, and it's small, but that's definitely a smile there. Hero smiles wide, a feeling of pride filling up their chest. They know it's funny to feel that way, but feelings are feelings.
As they land safely on the ground, hero thinks,
I'll just leave this part out of my report.
I'm letting the spotlight shine on vigilante for this one, because hurray to morally grey characters who just pretend to be evil and don't actually go around causing chaos xD Hope you all will enjoy this one^^
I can relate to "me"
Every writing advice ever: If you’re having trouble with a scene, skip it and write a different part of the story.

Happy birthday!!!
Hey, thank you so much <3 it means a lot!! 😊
Okay, this hurts but I'm interested
“Stop,” Hero cried, “please stop,”
“You want, so desperately, to belong,” Villain continued, relishing in the way Hero’s expression fell. “Your whole life, you were a recluse. Now that you’re a hero, you think it’s different. But, you’re still alone. People only admire you for your hero persona,” Hero felt hot tears streaming down their face.
“No one really cares about you,”
I am going to cry, this is so sweet 🥺🫂
right back at you my friend!! thank you for reading my stuff, even if you don't really follow the fandom - I appreciate that so so much <333

This is so damn sweet <3 *hugs back* Thank you so much 💫❤
Wow, how did you all manage to create one of the most adorable things I've ever read?!
the dumbest fucking thought I had while half-asleep this morning:
villain: I shall now use this machine to pinpoint the location of every person you love so you can WATCH AS I FREEZE THEM WITH MY EVIL MEGA ICE RAY
hero: wait no-
machine: dings immediately, showing the location of the villain
villain: um
Where the Hero is a greenie and meets with the famous Villain around town through a flurry of fists and curses. They have a rosy outlook on everything and it drives the Villain nuts.
"Heroes are such needy things," the Villain sneered, their dagger a breath away from the Hero's trembling throat.
"G-get away from me!" , the Hero attempted to push the Villain away, but they just couldn't muster the strength in their limbs anymore- their fight had stretched for far too long and the Hero has been running on a mere three hours of sleep for the entire week.
" Really such needy, needy things..." the Villain continued their taunts- taunts which the Hero would have blatantly ignored if they were in a better state of mind- but that they weren't.
The Hero shivered under the Villain's intense gaze, torn by the curiosity to know what they had meant and their moral compass which told them to steer clear from any words that fell out of a Villain's mouth. So the Hero decided to do something that didn't require too much energy- they had seen this happen in movies before (and they hoped desperately, that it applied to this situation)- they stared into the Villain's amber eyes.
The Villain stopped their taunting for a moment, meeting the Hero's stern gaze. "What's wrong? Is my favourite Hero tongue-tied?"
This voice laced with sarcasm, the Hero didn't want to believe that anything it said was true, but he really wanted to know- were heroes really needy creatures? If so, what exactly made them needy?
The Hero realised that they weren't supposed to go into an inner epiphany with a dagger pressed to their throat, but they were just unbelievably curious.
Curiosity kills the cat- they guessed that curiosity could kill heroes too.
Sucking in a sharp breath and relishing the feeling of oxygen, well aware that this might be the last breath of air that they could taste, the Hero made their decision-
"Explain what that means Villain."
The Villain smirked so wide, the Hero thought that their cheeks would split. "Quite the curious Hero aren't you?" , they said, abandoning their dagger, sheathing the metal object back into it's scabbard.
The Hero was perplexed, "what are you- AAGH!", they gasped as the Villain's long fingers wound around their throat, promptly cutting off their air supply . The Villain leaned in closer, just enough to hear the angry rasps that fell out of the Hero's abused throat, their eyes glaring down darkly at them.
"If you thought that I would give you the answer just because you asked me to, you have a long way to go greenie."
Black spots marred the Hero's vision and they could feel their eyelids become heavier by the second. But even on the edge of losing consciousness, the Hero couldn't help but think that the Villain's fingers were gentle in their own way- they weren't crushing their windpipe mercilessly in one go, but instead pressing down on it gently, slowly, like someone who preferred suffocating someone with a pillow rather than stabbing them with a dagger.
Or maybe I'm just finally losing my mind- the Hero thought, and reading way too many hero/villain fanfics.
The last ember of strength finally died and the Hero closed their eyes.
this was meant to be a prompt, but ended up turning into a snippet/i have no regrets/the hero is a hopeless romantic/villain has no clue what's happening in that little head of his nemesis/ part 2 will be up soon!
THEY ARE SO PRECIOUS 💖
me, hoarding a ton of valentine’s meme cards, rubbing my hands together with an evil laugh like a cartoon villain: i’m gonna make these bitches feel so LOVED they won’t even see it coming
*hugs back*
thank you for the hug <3
This is just perfect
You guys seem to absolutely love this snippet, so enjoy the continuation! Another one is also on it’s way! See masterlist for the first 5 parts *Please note, I decided that because this snippet has gone on so long, I think it’s time the hero/villain need to be actual characters, so the villains name is revealed in this chapter. The hero’s will be next chapter. In my head, they are both boys, so you’ll notice the use of those pronouns from now on, however, feel free to imagine them however you like!!* —————————————————————————————————
The following week was strange. The hero hadn’t seen the villain since he ‘broke out’ of jail. They had been texting, occasionally, but that wasn’t why the week had been strange.
The week had been strange because the hero hadn’t been called in for a single crime! There were still the occasional small things, but nothing worth calling the hero in for. It was as if all the other villains had up and left the city!
The hero turned the corner down an alley, deep in their thoughts. Were the villains planning something big? Were they working together? Why had there been almost no sightings of any of them!?
Suddenly, without warning, something hard and metallic connected with the back of the hero’s head, and everything went black.
When he finally came to an hour later, his head was still spinning, a faint ringing in his ears as he tried to blink the world around them into focus. He went to try and move, but found he couldn’t. Finally, his eyes seemed to focus enough to see the rope that was tying him to their chair.
“Rissseeee and shiiinneeee!!!” A voice chirped behind them, too loudly. The hero winced.
He recognized the voice, though. It was Fallout, one of the higher-up villains in town.
“Well, look who finally decided to join us back in the land of the living!"
"What do you want, Fallout?” the hero asked, though his voice came out slightly strained.
“Oh, don’t worry, darling, for once, I’m not actually all that interested in you! You’re just the bait today!"
"Bait for who?” the hero asked in confusion. This was new; he’d never been bait before. Who would come for them?
“Bait to lure your new boyfriend, obviously,” the villain replied as they finally walked into the hero’s view. He sat down onto an office chair, pushing off the ground and rolling directly in front of the hero, a manic grin on his face.
“I don’t know who you’re talking about,” the hero replied, narrowing his eyes.
“I’m going to assume he’s talking about me,” came a new voice. Both the hero and Fallout’s head snapped to look at the newcomer.
“Yes, he would be the one! The one you somehow managed to befriend while they were in prison,” Fallout drawled as he stood up, “Welcome welcome Silver,"
Silver, right. That was the villain’s new name on the street recently.
The villain sighed. The hero noticed his eyes dart over to him, looking him up and down, scanning for injuries, before looking back to the other villain in the room, "I don’t know if you’re brave or stupid,"
"I’m irritated is what I am!” Fallout snapped angrily,
“Everyone slow down,” the hero interrupted, “someone mind filling me in on what the hell is going on here?"
"ever since your boyfriend got out of jail, most villains have been too scared to try anything ever since we found out this one’s got a soft spot for you!"
The hero’s eyes widened, glancing between the two villains in front of them.
"So… you kidnapped them? That seems smart,” he commented, lazily adjusting the cuffs of his suit.
“I did so to prove a point,” Fallout drawled, “I wanted to prove that they made you weak. You don’t need a soft spot for this pathetic piece of meat; he will only slow you down,"
The villain simply raised an eyebrow.
"I mean, think about it, you wasted your time, coming here, to save him, when you could have been doing other things! Imagine the things you could be doing! Instead, you’re here, all because of him,"
The villain yawned, rolling their eyes, "Oh yes, the things I could be doing. You interrupted my bubble bath I’ll have you know, quite an important thing, that,"
The hero couldn’t help himself. He snorted. He really shouldn’t have, but when he saw the smile that crept onto Silver’s face, he decided it was worth it.
"Also, I would like to say, I made no such declaration for other villains not to touch him,” Silver continued, gesturing to the hero who was still tied to their chair, “I’m plenty certain he’s more than capable of handling themselves,"
"If you really believed that, then why would you come to rescue him?"
"I’m here because you called me,” the villain deadpanned, “He isn’t my significant other, but you implied he was. It’s the principle of trying to take something you assumed was mine, regardless of your correctness,"
Suddenly the villain pulled something out of his pocket and whipped it. Fallout didn’t have time to react before the dagged pierced their thigh.
"And as I said earlier, I don’t know if you’re brave or stupid. Though, I’m fairly certain with my conclusion that you are neither. Your simply insane,"
"Don’t kill him!” they hero called urgently, “there’s no need to kill him, just get me out of here,"
The villain sighed, "Very well. That’s much less entertaining, though,"
He walked over, cutting the hero free in one, swift motion.
"Though I’d be lying if I said I didn’t anticipate you wouldn’t want them killed. Thus my decision to aim for their leg. Should make arresting them much simpler, given they can’t run away. Merry Christmas?” He added with a sly, yet chillingly charming smirk.
The hero’s eyes widened, looking at the other in shock.
“Uhm, yeah, right,” He shook his head as he pulled the handcuffs out of his pocket and made his way over to Fallout, who was crippled on the ground.
“This was so much easier when heroes and villains weren’t on the same side!” He growled from his position on the floor, trying to scoot away from the advancing hero.
“Ah, how times change,” The villain drawled. He raised his hand, and the dagger that was embedded in the other’s leg shot out. Fallout let out a screech of pain, blood splattering over them. The villain caught the dagger effortlessly, spinning it through his fingers.
The hero yelped in surprise, “Remember how I said don't kill him?!"
"I didn’t hit an artery; he’ll be fine,” the villain replied, rolling his eyes.
Lucky the villain was right, and the hero was able to stop the bleeding and arrest them without too much issue.
“Well,” the villain mused once it was all said and done, “I got you kidnapped today; I think the least I can do is offer you a cup of tea?” He smirked.
