The first page of a three page comic

The first panel is empty and white with a cuckoo bird in the center. The text reads “I think there is something wrong with me.”

The next two panels are two triangles fit together, the first is a closeup of a robin with a worm in her beak. It reads “My mother looks at me differently, these days.” The other triangle has a closeup of the cuckoo with its mouth open. It says “I wonder… Have I always been like this?” You could also read it “Have I always been like this? I wonder…”

“Has she always been so small?” Is the text on the next panel. The robin is seen flying away in silhouette, with the cuckoo looking too large as it sits on its round stick nest.

Page 2 of a 3 page comic.

This page is a single long panel, taken up by a towering tree. At the top of the tree the cuckoo is silhouetted, with a single eye staring downward. At the base of the tree lies shattered egg shells. The text reads “I think I have done something monstrous.”

Page 3 of a 3 page comic.

This page begins with two simplified bird heads staring at one another, their beaks touching. The outline of these birds forms an infinity symbol together. Their patterns loosely show the cuckoo’s feathers and the patterns of the robin. The text follows them: “I think I was supposed to be someone else.”

The next panel shows the cuckoo standing by water, leaning over. The reflection of the water shows a robin chick mirroring the cuckoo. The cuckoo stares out at the viewer. It reads “I am sorry for stealing them from you.”

The panel after, the cuckoo towers over a small robin feeding it, the cuckoo shadowed and wings extended. It reads “I’m sorry that I am so hungry.”

The final panel, the cuckoo is perched on the edge of a nest. Too many wings extend from its body and masks its face, in a way that looks violent or mimics an angel. It is unclear whether the cuckoo is still a chick at its nest or an adult on the ledge of a new nest. The final text reads “I don’t know how to be anything else.”
