Day 7, act
Today I’m probably the opposite of the theme, I’m feeling lazy 🤤
Still that sketchy eye-vortex for you
Don't Starve pfp for the spooky month!!
That's all I had time to do this weekend there ya go-
I did this maybe a year ago for a class assignement. So I guess this could be a new character for Don't Starve? He's a fisherman :)
A thing I drew some time ago that I completely forgot to post, so I'm doing it now, before we move on from Halloween for good-
Graphic Booklet: Rough Pages
The comic I’ve been working on is now completely written and roughly drawn/laid out. Here are two rough pages. The paper I used for the rough version is so thin I can erase from the other side of the page. This stems for a long-standing issue with commitment and drawings being worth good paper or not. Suffice to say, I’ll get over it for the final and get some non tissue paper. Expecting the whole thang to be complete by the end of the month!
Graphic Booklet: Male Emotions
Further character study for the graphic booklet’s male character. I needed to simplify my typical facial style to pull out the highs and lows I was looking for. Since the character has very little to say in the story, I needed a very expressive, cartoony body capable of movement aplenty.
Man, Seattle is a super great city. We went to Pike’s Public Market and got some excellent sweet and savory pastries and of course saw some fish get ceremonially tossed. Then we biked to see the Space Needle and neighboring architectural interests. After plenty of biking in the rain, we ended the day with a viewing of the strangest movie I have ever seen at a great cinema that prides itself on cult rarities and good beer. If you’ve any interest in bizarre, psychedelic Japanese horror movies of the late 70s, see House (1979) pronto. More soon.
First day in Seattle. Super awesome. Got up extra early on account of the time change and got all the bicycles out of the shipping boxes and ready to ride. Went to the gun range and shot a wide array of 9mm pistols. This manly activity made us realize that doing guy stuff can make you feel less manly if you’re pretty uncomfortable doing it. So then four of us tried to split a cigar but we ended up only making it half way through. I think we redeemed ourselves though, by inventing Bliskey - which is beer and whiskey, naturally. More soon.
I have begun the Super Trip, wherein myself and two friends travel from Seattle to Los Angeles via car and bicycle. The first day wasn’t so exciting because it involved getting to JFK, sitting in an aeroplane for 6 hours then settling in at the friend’s apartment in Seattle. There is so much to come on this trip, and I plan to post some drawings.
File Under Fine Art: What is Nudity?
Pardon my absence the past week. I have been in Florida where it snows never, shines stronger sun, and offers communities single, double, even triple gated for your safe retirement. But upon my return, New York proved to me once again why it is great: The Armory Show Modern. Some great work from artists all over and in such a monstrous locale it took hours to get through. I imagined many of the attendants of this contemporary art show having the below conversation.
Process Post: Cover Art
Again, a view into the way I work for better or worse. Process of the cover art for DJ Lani Love’s winter mixtape Snow To Stars. Projects for Lani always get me to work in a more sleek, hip fashion. Not much room for smiling pixelart or batmen, but I’d like to think I can do cool too. You be the judge (I’ve decided this is going to be pretty cool if I stick to it, but your confidence is highly appreciated).
Step 1 & 2.
Left: Extra rough sketch for the basic layout and concept. I went with the snow and stars. Right: Less awful rendering of Ms. Love. Coolness tip: head slightly raised, shoulders slightly back? Coolness. Who knows why.
Step 3 & 4.
Left: Serious cleanup of the face and hair with a rough shape for the space-blouse. Right: Her hair loaded the right side of the frame unexpectedly - so the sweet gloves and dropping the collar for a bit more asymmetrical balance.
Step 5.
Clean it all up. Next step will involve the tough decisions of shading, color, text, etc.
Some doodled OC art.
