Sixth Mystery Prologue: Dudes with Dreams & Doubts
School clubs were closed for the week to help students prepare for more exams on Friday. Calvin used that extra time in the morning for his part-time job, completing some personal career goals.
With no club meeting that afternoon, he texted his buddy Cho, who was all for meeting up in their old neighborhood in the city.
The two got to catch up with news from their old school and new friends. Cho: "Girls at school begged to see the pics from you and Olivia at prom. The girls are super nice to me now, but the guys are SOOOO pissed off at you. But everyone could see CALIVIA coming."
Calvin: "I know you even asked her first, and we're bros, so this is going to sound weird. Feel free to smack me upside the head."
Cho: "Oh, crap. What did you do now?"
Calvin: "A while back, when I first got to Willow Creek, I met this woman named Zhuli. I was researching Mystery #1 in Mt. Komorebi, and was hanging out at a small park area near the bus stop, waiting for my ride home. She lives in a renovated apartment building on the lot. She saw a new face, then we were just hanging out, talking."
Cho: "Woman? You sly dog, you. How much older was she?"
Calvin: "A few years. She's a part-time university student with a couple part-time jobs. Cleaning services and I don't know the other."
Cho: "OK? So what about her? Did something happen lately?"
Calvin: "Last night I had a dream about her in a French maid uniform, and luring me into a closet for...you get the idea!! But I woke up from it before anything happened, and damned if I could get back to sleep after that! I had to go out on the porch for some fresh air first."
Cho: "Oh! So it wasn't the alarm clock that woke you? That's usually MY problem. What? Do you feel like you're cheating on Olivia?"
Calvin: "I have NO idea why Zhuli popped in my head, since I only saw her the one time. Am I freaking out over my new relationship??"
Cho: "Um...YEAH! [smacks Cal on the back of his head] It was just a dream, and you said yourself you woke up from it on your own. It means you're not letting temptation ruin your relationship."
Calvin: "Oh....I still feel guilty, like I should tell Liv about this."
Cho: "Don't let fantasy dreams get in the way of your real goals!! Do you need another smack on the head from me, Cal?"
Calvin: "NO! And your logic, it is wise, sensei. I probably need to focus on what's in front of me, and not get distracted. MORE exams are coming up this Friday. How are you doing with that, before I let us get sidetracked with talk about my stupid woo-hoo dreams?"
Cho: "Everyone is hitting me up for tutoring or being part of study groups. I'm Mr. Popularity at My-North now. Eh, it's what I dreamt about, but now I'm just trying to focus on scholarships for Academy Le Tour. And trying NOT to piss off the Goth Family, with Cassandra and I being maybe more than friends in college."
The two put aside their own doubts, so they could talk about normal stupid stuff that high school dudes do. They carried their closing conversation on their walk to the bus stop, as Cal headed home.
While Calvin was on the bus, he got a text from Cali.
"Hey, Cal. I stopped by your place on my way home from work, but you weren't home. I slipped something under your door about #6."
Calvin jogged home from the bus stop a little faster than usual. He already got some answers today from his bro Cho, and now it was time for him to find some answers on his own.
