A rant about Persona 3 Portable's OST on digital storefronts

Hi there. This is gonna be a rant about why I don't like the digital version of P3P's OST cover art. Let me explain why.

Now if you're aware of Persona 3 Portable, you're very much aware that Kotone/Femc was a big push for that version of Persona 3. A lot of the P3P media depicts either her alone or with Makoto/MC.

This leads me onto the point of my rant...the cover art for P3P's OST.

Let me make it clear...I love this artwork. I love the way it looks and how they formatted it with Makoto on one side and Kotone on the other. It's an amazing piece of art... but when it comes to digital store fronts and streaming services, there's one big issue and that is only being able to use one cover.

In 2023, Atlus rereleased the songs on digital stores and streaming services to coincide with the "remaster" of Persona 3 Portable on modern consoles (I could do a rant on this too but let's be on topic).

So what did Atlus do? Make a Kotone only art piece? Make one with both in the shot? Nope. They just stuck the original front cover on there and called it a day.

Reasons why this is a bad thing (not the art but the way they formatted it)

It features purely just Makoto, completely missing the point of P3P.

The songs are purely just Kotone songs. With Makoto on the cover, it doesn't make any sense anymore as it has nothing to do with him.

The original connected art is gone. You're only getting half of this artwork and it's not even the one that makes sense.

So yeah...Atlus fucked up.

So how could they not fuck up then? Well I have two solutions!

First solution - Make a Kotone only cover

This one's simple. They don't have to use the connected artwork but they could just make the cover primarily with Kotone instead.

Here's a version that I edited myself, using a textless version of the connected artwork I found online and a free font that's similar to the one found on the original cover.

While the connected artwork is gone, the cover still makes sense as the album is all of Kotone's songs.

The vinyl version does this too and in my opinion reflects the album much better.

Second Solution - Make a single cover with Makoto and Kotone

While more complicated, I think it can be done. In fact I tested this one out myself.

Something like this would work extremely well (albeit more professional and interesting and less amateurish). It represents both sides and is clear to what it is right from the cover.

So yeah overall, I don't like what Atlus did to the cover art and I wished they improved it.

Useless fun facts with Tanooki!

Persona 3 Portable's CD case shows two sides. One is Makoto and Elizabeth. The other is Kotone and Theodore.

This neat little feature is completely gone from the digital version which is bad to me because

P3P's main feature is different protagonists

The cover art is Makoto despite the album being filled with songs about Kotone.
