Okay so I didn’t even know that this movie existed before seeing this post, and it’s REALLY weird. I wanted to point out some things.
-one of the main characters first lines is “history is so ten minutes ago”
-the leprechauns in this movie are literally one foot tall
-the scenes where Ryan asks his parents about his heritage are just so... bizarre. The camera positions, the way the actors are speaking and moving, it’s just so weird.
-the kids at his school are strangely shallow. Ryan was Mr. Popularity until he lost one match and then suddenly everyone hates him with a passion. Like, wow.
-I feel like there’s a lot of stereotyping of Irish people but idk enough about Irish culture to know
-oh also they’re chasing the bad guy and it’s raining. The bad guy (he’s a leprechaun) gets away, but then the rain clears and a rainbow appears. They follow the rainbow and actually find the bad guy it’s so bad and awesome at the same time
-Ryan makes a bet with the bad leprechaun to get his magic coin back and just says that he’ll beat the guy at sports. Like, any sport. The whole movie, his thing is basketball, and he just says it like he can do ALL the sports.
-Ryan loses the first bet and makes another one, prompting me to think about faeries and other similar creatures and what it would be like to make multiple bets with them.
-the movie has this guy in it
and I can’t find a single movie that I know him from but I am 100% sure I’ve seen him before
-this
-the sheer amount of makeup on this mans face ^^^
-okay but the whole premise of this movie was heritage day, and how Ryan needed to find out his heritage for it. For heritage day he does a step dance for his Irish heritage and ends it like this
and then after that, he says something along the lines of “america is great too and also part of our heritage” and then starts singing “this land is my land” and he wasn’t bad at singing but he was a bit flat. Everyone else joined in and I was kind of confused. How does everyone know the lyrics? Is this a universal song? Is there a kid that was to present after Ryan, because if so I feel really bad for that kid.
-at the end of the movie there’s this weird moment where you can hear everyone clapping but it freezeframes on Ryan. For a moment I genuinely thought my device was frozen.
-there was also this really creepy guy at the Irish heritage fair that kept saying “top o the mornin to ya” and giving out garlands and I feel like he was plot-relevant but he was never mentioned again.
-Grandpa leprechaun is able to open a safe with magic for no reason other than “it’s a leprechaun thing”. Leprechauns were around before safes? How??
-among other bizarre leprechaun transformations, Ryan gets two inches shorter, gets red hair, gets weird pointy ears, starts saying only certain words with an Irish accent and then also there’s the thing of having the WORST LUCK EVER.
I can’t think of anything else to say for now but this movie is a hecking roller coaster and I have no idea how it was ever made.
hey my friends and I just all remembered the disney channel original movie “Luck of the Irish” exists so we found it and watched it (don’t do this) and it’s four messes and a half but at the end the main character challenges the enemy leprechaun to a wager and says “if you lose, you’ll be banished to the land of my father, to spend eternity on the shores of Eerie” and the bad guy corrects him and says “Éire,” thinking he’d mispronounced the Gaeilge for Ireland,
and when he loses he’s like “I’m going back to my homeland, and I’ll gain power once again!” and the main character is like “no. My MOTHER is from Ireland. My dad’s from Cleveland.”
and the bad guy gets banished to live on the shores of Lake Eerie in Ohio forever and I’ve been thinking about that for like two weeks now
