This is how it works..right?

panel 1: a spearow sleeping. a short haired, ballcap wearing trainer in the background says: oh fuck my pokemon fell asleep panel 2: the trainer picks up the spearow, still asleep. trainer says: not to worry my spearow friend, for i have an AWAKENING i can use to wake you up again! panel 3: the trainer puts the awakening, partially obscured, up to the pidgey, saying: you'll be up and at em in no time bud! ^^ panel 4: the after effects of an awakening being used: spearow is awoken abruptly by air horn noises directly from the awakening, which is labeled with '120 decibels' and a sound warning symbol on it.

what if the awakening in pokemon worked like this
