Many people are of the opinion that some of the abuses that C!Dream faces are in some way justified or excusable. Which, no! Abuse is never okay! But lets put that aside for one moment. Lets pretend that yes, c!dream being subject to solitary confinement is defensable due to the moral boundaries that he’d crossed. That he posed such a threat to other people, that he was bad enough of a person, that his rights are now null and void.
Where do we draw the line? I’m genuinely curious, at what point in the storyline did people no longer think he deserved adequate living conditions? What action did he take that then made it perfectly okay for him to be cut off from any form of support network? What moment meant that his canonical self harm could then be dismissed as attention seeking?
And if we’ve now established that there is some point when abuse is justified, surely that logic must be applied universally? What action would c!tommy have to take where exile was okay? Where is that line in the sand?
The logic behind excusing the conditions of pandoras vault is the same behind justifying the exile arc.
We know that early dsmp streams and content are lore, right? Stuff from before anyone started roleplaying, still counts as part of a character.
That means that cc!dream, messing around with his friends on the server, is a canonical part of c!dreams character.
So why do people argue that c!dream was abusive and a bad person this whole time???
‘C!Dream is a bad person because he has no empathy’
‘I don’t feel bad for c!dream, I laugh whenever he suffers, he deserves the prison’
??
if i see one more person say that c!dream was the one to build pandoras vault the way it currently is—
I have a love hate relationship with the name pandoras vault.
On the one hand it’s so cool! My first thought when hearing it was that it’s so clever, and I love mythology references (plus the continuation with ‘Theseus’ is rly nice)
But it also does the exact same thing that the fandom does to c!dream. The metaphor of the name directly compares him to the embodiment of all evil; and suggests that anyone who lets him out would be a fool, who is putting everyone else in grave danger. The contents of the original pandoras box weren’t people capable of change, they were instead concepts.
I need someone to edit that one community meme so it says ‘i can excuse torture but i draw the line at manipulation’
Fandom critical-
I think some c!tommy apologists who are also c!dream antis don’t think ANYONE is allowed to like morally grey characters. In order to like c!tommy, they feel as though he can’t have any flaws. That if he’s both a bit of a dick sometimes and still their favourite character, it’s a moral failing on their part. And if they have to make c!tommy perfect in order to like him, how can they let others appreciate c!dream?
Hey can we not speculate on wether or not someone has a disorder or not. It's weird. Especially calling them ADHD coded.
(I'm talking about a real person not a fictional character)
I have a theory when it comes to the emasculation & sexualisation of Izuku and rampant sexualisation of the underaged characters in MHA, and why fans and outsiders see it as such.
Before you continue reading I just want to let you know this is not a safe space for proshitters & self identified fujoshis (you know who you are. If the shoe doesn’t fit then you can interact). If you are a proshipper or a self identified fujoshis then its best for both our sakes you block me. If I find you in my likes or mentions I will hide your comment and block you.
I’m also not a fan of toga x oochako, and Im saying this because I mentioned it briefly but its not the worst ship for me to block you (bkdk will always take that spot).
Anyways here’s a rundown list based on what I’ve observed [Mentions of Homophobia, Misogyny & Sexualisation of underaged characters down below. Read at your own risk]:
1.1 Horikoshi’s bias: Any watcher with critical thinking skills are able to see Horikoshi has a clear bias towards characters like bakugo, aizawa, shinso and mineta and he confirmed it himself. From the beginning to the very end of the manga Horikoshi has failed to respect Midoriya’s autonomy as a character, and any time we ever got close to introspection its immediately shut out in favour of the same popular characters over and over again.
1.2:Horikoshi has repeatedly sexualised his underaged characters and seems to show no guilt or remorse over such actions, even in his confessions. This was no accident, and any attempt to address this in a critical light in the manga was a failure, just like all the controversial topics he tried to address in the series (mutant arc -I personally don’t like how others see it as a racism allegory as a Black person, but thats another topic for another day-, eugenic marriage, trafficking etc.)
It also doesn’t help Japan has a rampant pedophilia & SA problem, and the reason you don’t see it on the news is because of shame culture + language barrier + their good PR Team. Anybody who tries to tell you it doesn’t exist are all liars, and anybody who tries to justify it with it being part of their culture is a racist.
2.From a dudebros perspective: We all know dudebros are obsessed with masculinity and powerscaling, but in some cases they are fine with fictional male characters crying, even male characters who don’t fit the traditional masculine role. But Midoriya isn’t the traditional masculine role character and he cries alot. Along the way they mustve subconsciously picked up the writers mistreatment of Midoriya, and so to them it’s like why should they respect a character who acts like a crybabying bitch?
And then they see how “close” bakugo & midoriya are. Dudebros as a collective are homophobic, so at first they would deny it, but then slowly but surely theyd pick up on how weird it is for midoriya and bakugo to be this obsessed with each other. Pair that up with the delusional fujoshis who seem to be fucking *everywhere* they’re going to call Midoriya a gay bitch for being steamrolled by “the goat” Bakugo.
Then there’s the sexualisation part. No words are needed to be said. Dudebros as a collective have little to no morals, especially the misogynistic. They don’t care if the character is 14yr old they’re going to wank their dick off to it regardless and thats the unfortunate truth.
But I feel the other reason why they feel so comfortable wanking off freely is because Horikoshi basically gave them the greenlight to do so. He shamelessly sexualised his characters without attempting to address it in a critical light.
3.From a fandom gay (especially fujoshis) perspective: It’s inevitable that the fandom gays will always find a way to ship 2 male characters, even if the creator clearly states their relationship is platonic, that’s just how it is for the better or worse.
To some credit, I can see why the fujoshis are obsessed with bkdk to the point of it being the #1 ship in MHA (never to the point of peak delusional though). Horikoshi doesn’t know when to put Bakugo to the side for once, or make Bakugo have his own arc without Midoriya being tied into it. It also doesn’t help Horikoshi mishandled Midoriya’s bullied past so the fujoshis are going to either dismiss that entirely or stupidly justify it in the worst way possible. Everyday its parallel this rival that.
I also personally believe Horikoshi baited BKDK content for some extra cash because he realised thats what the fans are into and also realised how stupid it is to trick them, like dangling a carrot infront of a donkey but that’s just my conspiracy theory.
If its one thing fujoshis love is pushing heteronormative roles onto their “gay” favourites and having internalised misogyny, morals be damned. Midoriya is seen as emotional, Bakugo is seen as aggressive. What does that equal to them? Top & Bottom, Alpha & Omega, Dominant & Submissive.
Fujoshis & Proshitters arent going away anytime soon, but because Horikoshi did nothing to shoo away the allegations until the very end of the chapter the fujoshis felt very entitled to act out. If you call them out you’re homophobic, but they would have zero problem dragging Oochako by the mud for daring to get in the way of the ship, and when that arc of her & Toga came out these same ppl who also tried to say Oochako is a love interest repackeged her into being Toga’s love interest under the guise of “girl power & lets go lesbians”.
(Personally as a Lesbian Feminist I am offended by this take but once again I digress)
Once again Horikoshi sexualised his underaged female cast, and while the fandom gays try to play the moral highground holding Horikoshi accountable I personally believe are just as hypocritical. The proshippers mustve subconsciously seen the sexualisation as a greenlight to go full haywire.
~~
TLDR; Horikoshi’s ass writing gave the watchers the greenlight to disrespect Midoriya as this bitch. A crybaby ass bitch from the dudebros and a crybaby bottom bitch from the fujoshis point of view. An ultimate bitch.
These fans will always exist but this reputation is the most prominent I’ve ever seen. In my humble opinion no fandom can ever be compared to MHA and its sheer audacity. Horikoshi & his overall fans don’t actually like Midorya and it’s disheartening to watch.
Silco is an abuser and a terrible father figure and i'm sick of people pretending he's not.
On the arcane fandom, even to this day there's this weird ass narrative of Silco being "the perfect father for Jinx" or "A loving father who only looks for his daughter's best interest" "girl dad" or whatever other shit this people call him right now.
And the way that i fucking despise this cannot be describe with words unless you count screams of rage and foam as words.
But let's go point for point shall we?
First, how did they meet?
Well the show is kind of ambigous with where they met in time, we know that Vander was already present in the girls lifes before the death of their parents but there is no indicator of prior relationship with Silco. I will then assume for the lack of info that Silco was never an uncle figure to the girls, he was probably too busy with their Zaun plan and he does not seem like the kind of person who would get along with children therefore i will declare that his attempt in murdering Vander and the kids was his first formal introduction to the sisters. He knew they existed, but he didn't had a formal bond with them.
So we can say that when Powder thought she was abandoned by Vi was when Silco stablished contact with her.
Now let's look at this scene in a more raw way, no music, no animation nothing. Just words.
This little girl is crying. She is right now processing the fact that almost all of her family is death. This was all just a very awful chain of events, but her mind cannot comprehend this, this is all her fault in her perspective.
Then comes the true culprit. This man alongside all of his goons are ready to kill her, end with her family's legacy.
Then she just clings to him.
She's acting on pure impulse, because that's what children do. She clinged to him not because she trusted him, not because he seem like a good person but because as a child she would be looking for comfort in the moment where darkness was consuming her mind. And this is the exact moment where this man gets a hold of this vulnerable child and will basically set it all up for him to mold this child into his "Jinx".
"OH BUT THOSE WEREN'T HIS INTENTIONS YOU CANT SAY THAT"
Grooming is a manipulation tactict therefore it is not bound to intentionality, most manipulators don't even know that what they're doing is wrong. Silco very much fits in this.
He projected himself in this child, he said it himself "We'll show them all". This is literally not the case, Vi didn't betray her sister she was having a natural reaction to a traumatic situation, but Silco obviously wouldn't care about it, he doesn't know this children out of this surface level interaction, what matters for him is that he has found someone, he might not have the intention of grooming her but this will be his action from now on.
Now let's take a look at the kind of parenting methods he applied. Most of the community will probably call it "gentle" if asked.
I will however describe it as extremely negligent.
First thing first, Jinx's hideout is dangerous af, this place is not appropiate for...Literally anything, not for testing explosive or treat wounds or to let a child be there constantly. Because i really doubt Jinx only started to have this place only around the time where act 2 was starting considering that at the start this place practically looked like a monument to her trauma. So Silco let this girl spend most of her time in this isolated space that looks like it's going to collapse at any minute, let her test dangerous explosives, and also the final episode shows she could've fallen or thrown herself to the bottom at any moment.
"But Silco has some stuff that Jinx painted over! That means he loves her!"
Abusers can be and actually a lot of them will be loving. Plus loving doesn't mean he takes good care of her, we can say that he loves her but that's it, somebody doesn't hate waffles when they like pancakes and Silco isn't a good father figure for loving his child.
And if anything this loves he has for Jinx only isolates her.
Jinx didn't had anybody but Silco before Silco's death.
Her relationship with Ekko was the equivalent of a crater left by a meteor strike.
Sevika and the rest of Silco's goons/allies just saw her as a problem, a mess who will sooner or later kill them or kill herself.
And outside of them it doesn't seem like anybody else in Zaun cared much about her before the attacks on piltover.
Silco is the only one who actually talks to her, and he only ever tells her that she is "perfect". Good to know that you love your child buddy but your child is literally having hallucinations every three scenes where she even talks to her death brothers, has careless behavior for her own and others safety to the point where it almost looks like she's eargerly making the chances of her dying higher, and just generally seems like she has given up on everything but you.
Individuals who suffer through mental illness need help, literally any kind, wether it is a person just helping us with tasks that might be difficult for us or a psychologist (any mental health professional tbh) that assist us in our way to be more healthy and not harm ourselfs or others.
Letting your daughter fall deeper and deeper into a pit where she's literally treating one of her wounds with staples and looking at a shattered mirror while in crisis is not help.
Grooming a child so they can become a goon for a drug lord is not an act that reflects paternal qualities.
And treating Jinx's character as if she was the one who dragged herself in the pit while constantly praising her abuser is not a display of intellectual abilities. The way this fandom is so blatantly ableist when it comes to Jinx should be studied, before we saw AU Jinx almost everyone and their moms was convinced she would've ended similarly all because everyone turned a blind eye to the man behind all of her problems to the man that named her Jinx. Or worse they blamed Vi another child.
All to protect the fragile perception of the ideal father.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
