"ForgottenKind" comic devlog #5

Completed the "thumbnailing" stage. All 33 pages of my pilot episode have been roughed out.

The next steps will be sketching everything in higher detail, inking, then adding halftones.

"ForgottenKind" comic: dev update 2

This one's a bit long, so to help with the length I've decided to change how I present these updates.

Text:
Relationships:

I've given more thought to the relationships between a few characters.
My second protagonist got some much needed depth and development,
and their personal relationships are going to see a major change from
my previous draft.

No spoilers, though!

Episode lengths:

I recently noticed most comics and manga vary in length, with some
chapters as short as 12 pages. My first episode ended up at nearly
60 pages but has many opportunities to add a "break point", so I've
decided to segment my first episode to be more manageable.
Going forward I'll ignore page counts and only write my episodes to
be as long as they need to be.

Non-linear Storytelling:

Many times I want to showcase something unrelated to my main cast
or the "main adventure" but can't because it would be too difficult to
explain what my cast is doing here. Going forward, in between major
moments I want to explore other characters and concepts within my
world that I otherwise wouldn't have time for.

These would be in the form of short episodes or single-page illustrations
with details on various creatures or locations. Some may be excerpts
from in-universe encyclopedias, posters, or notices. I'll place these
within the story to give more details on the previously resolved conflict
or to foreshadow the next chapters.

This update was a doozy. Thanks for reading!
