Marie’s homeland kingdom lacked all the 'modern conveniences' that others took for granted. Isolation only deepened the inhabitants’ unfamiliarity with the outside world. So, when she was gifted a Den-Den Mushi, Marie was completely bewildered. Not only that she has no idea how to use it, but she was also terrified of possibly hurting the creature. Even the thought of making calls and communicating through such a device filled her with genuine anxiety.
