Where your favorite blogs come alive
sometimes having a favorite player means you get to see them play one or two seasons at your favorite club (if you're lucky) and after that they transfer to a team you can't or don't want to follow them to. i have been one of the even luckier ones - i got to see one of my absolute favorite players play at my favorite club for over twelve years. the long lost son finally back home.
this bundesliga chapter ends today. and i know a lot of people will look at his career and only see the lacking titles. no bundesliga title, despite bvb being close twice in those years. no world cup title because of an unfortunate injury in the last friendly before the team's flight to brazil. his first champions league final also ended in a defeat (hopefully we'll be more successful the second time around).
when i look at that time, however, i see someone who always believed in his club and especially in its potential. who stood by it in sometimes better and sometimes worse times. who didn't leave, despite that being the easier option. i also see someone who brought players and fans to this club - among them certainly people who maybe would've looked the other way without him.
so thank you, marco. i hope we'll see each other in black and yellow again, when the time's right.
