pardon me sappy emotional post coming up:
egan bernal just won the colombian national road race. now i first started watching cycling properly in 2019 and egan was the first rider i really fell in love with. after that horrific crash in 2022 it’s honestly been so brilliant just to see him racing, i’ve been so excited just seeing him in breaks.
i saw an interview with him at the start of the 2023 tour and he said it didn’t matter to him if he never won anything again, he was just so happy to be back in a peloton again.
and now he’s won the national title in both the itt and the road race. first wins since the giro in 2021. i barely every cry at this sport but this got me.
2025 is the year of egan guys COME ON
so next season of women's cycling will have :
the legend anna van der breggen coming back from retirement to try to win the tour
the OTHER LEGEND pauline ferrand prevot coming back to road cycling to try to win the tour
demi vollering with actual teammates teaming up with juliette labous and evita muzic
cecilie uttrup ludwig teaming up with kasia in what will probably be the most likable duo in the peloton
very weird way to announce your new team principal but ok alpine
I mean this with genuine sincerity, which I'm sure will be immediately rebuffed, but it is actually heartbreaking to see the steady decline into conspiratorial madness of some Lewis fans. Some people I used to find really funny and have a lot of respect for just... consumed by something irrational and motivated by an echo chamber of their own making. It must be so tiring to be in such a perpetual state of anger and suspicion all the time?
😭😭 IS HE OLD ENOUGH TO BE A TEACHER

the thing about cycling is they love to hold hands and they love to cry. what more do you want from a sport
Nut sisters attack!!!!
this WAS the Japanese GP, idc what anyone else might have watched
featuring Lewis, George and Cute Kid, but not forgetting Dad Of Cute Kid, who has still not recovered from the experience

Pit debrief put out an article collating the drivers opinions on the Alonso Brake check incident (here)
Lewis being one of the only drivers sympathising with George’s fear, being concerned for him, and calling out Alonso’s behavior as unjustifiable where other drivers said George should have just expected it…
Hamilton added that he didn’t “understand” Alonso’s move, pointing out that Russell found himself in a precarious position as a result.
“The stewards obviously found a reason to penalise. If I try to put myself in Fernando’s position I can’t understand the manoeuvre, but I’m just glad that George is safe. It’s a frightening position to be in, in the middle of the track, with cars coming around at great speeds.”
It’s almost like the guy who’s had to deal with Alonso the longest, including being his teammate, might know exactly what he was trying to do.
everytime i read something more abt George this week i get progressively sicker. He doesnt deserve anything thats happened to him and i cannot believe people have the audacity to question his motives right now. See how YOU feel in a situation that could have been fully fatal. The FIA is a mess and i want to give him the biggest hug in the world. My poor darling boy. He deserves better. Do better.
Thinking about George’s crash and Zhou’s crash at Silverstone. How George, acting on instinct, parked his car forfeited his race, and hardly thought about rushing to help in anyway he could. How he talked about how scared he had felt, and how worried for Zhou he had been. How he found himself in a situation that must have been one of his worst fears and they didn’t red flag the race for him. Despite how much he was asking for one. No. They had him sitting on the track, unable to see the cars coming at him, trapped and frantically looking around waiting for that impact. Its horrifying. It shouldn’t have happened to anyone, and the fact that George showed his true character by immediately placing another drivers safety first, but the sport couldn’t do that for him in return is so upsetting.
You can instantly id josh purely by leg length
Reasons to love Strade Bianche:
1 reason to love road cycling:
finally realised am able to put into words what i feel about some members of team lh. blatant hypocrites. emulate their fave but if your activism stops because you don't like a person then sorry its so fucking incredibly performative. even worse when there are certain lines crossed that should not be fucking crossed.
'mental health matters' till its nico rosberg who made his choice to step away from the sport for it but then he's a weak coward who couldn't handle the smoke.
'leaving a toxic workplace is valid' till its valterri bottas who talked about how much pressure he was under in mercedes and how he had to change himself to fit the brand and wasn't happy and was experiencing all kinds of stresses. but oh yeah he should have come back to merc and continue being a "team player".
"child abuse is wrong" till its max verstappen and its oh so fucking funny that he got left at a gas station as a child and experienced god knows what as a child.
"an inappropriate boss-employee relationship is dangerous" till its george russell who does not have the healthiest boundaries with his boss but you know what that's his fault and he's a scheming mastermind.
but not toto who was a middle aged man when he met 15 year old george who showed up to this meeting with no adult support and who had full control of george's career for years. the jokes are funny till you see people who genuinely believe george is sleeping with his boss and then still think its oh so hilarious? tell me how is the principle of the matter different from the fucking dudebros shitting on the christian horner investigation.
"don't harass/protect employees!" till its harassing the social media admins for posting their other driver or the engineers for a strategy mishap or the mechanics for a slow pitstop.
if your morals are restricted to a para social relationship with a man who has worked so hard to be a real advocate in the sport then don't act like you are more righteous or better than any of the other losers defending these things. crossing these lines make you just as bad.

Forever wishing merc admin would do something about the amount of shitty comments they get about George. Bc god forbid they post about their other driver 🙄 like yes you can not rise to it and ignore it but bloody hell it’s so much and shouldn’t just be accepted..
Hoping for much more peaceful comment sections once the cult leaves but until then.. pls acknowledge it. Call them out. Do something about it.
everybody STOP what they're doing and look at nijntje at the tour de france
Duolingo is really effectively preparing me for that meeting with Wout van Aert. I can’t wait to ask him if he’s an apple. I’ve always wondered.
