It's... Emu's older brother??

For context: one of my favorite, I guess series, of PRSK fanfic that I've read revolves around Toya's older brothers (he has bio siblings for anyone who doesn't know, we just don't know what they look or sound like, nor do we have any names for them). It's fun and I like seeing their dynamic. Iirc, one (or both) of them calls Toya "Little Maestro."

And one of them, don't ask which I don't remember, just so happens, to be exes with Shousuke Otori, Emu's second eldest brother.

Oh, god. I should have expected this at some point.

This is my second time typing this out because my iPad decided to glitch out, but basically the answer is yes but also no.

I do still like ProSeka. I even went to see the movie in theaters with my irl friends!

The main problem is that in my opinion, ever since On Your Feet, the VBS story has been going in a direction that I don’t like and it’s removed everything that made them unique and what drew me to them in the first place.

And this has made me so upset that honestly, I’ve barely managed to bring myself to open the game since… I think December? I used to have every single easy, normal, and hard completed and would freak out at the idea of missing a day for my challenge show. Now I just… Can’t?

And honestly it’s not even just that— It’s also that the ProSeka fandom just kind of sucks? Like tell me why I keep seeing casual biphobia on my Twitter timeline and why I’ve seen people straight up mention me by name and talk about how much they hate my fics and wish I’d stop writing? It’s made me miss smaller fandoms recently— smaller fandoms where I can escape all the toxicity and I don’t have to deal with all this.

Combine all that with the fact that someone I trusted enough to dedicate a fic to them betrayed me and when I went to the university about it they made me feel like I was the problem and regret coming to them, my university experience has been so completely ruined that even though it’s the fucking… second week of summer I just woke up from having a nightmare about returning to uni, things haven’t exactly been the best for me recently.

Now, this does not mean that I’m never posting ProSeka fic again. I actually have one planned out for the Bad Things Happen bingo card. But well, that’s kind of the reason I haven’t been posting ProSeka recently and that’s kind of where I am right now.

I’m sure this isn’t the answer you were hoping for, and I’m truly sorry about that, but it’s the truth— and I don’t want to lie.

5. “You don’t own me.”/14. “I give up. You won.”

The day Toya came home with tears in his eyes and a bruised cheek was shaping up to be the worst day of Harumichi’s life.

He had just tried to offer some polite advice, but Toya had barricaded his door so Harumichi couldn’t get in.

“You don’t own me, Father! I’ll find something else to do with my life!”

But as the days went on, the resistance only slowed.

And even as Toya tried to fit in with Tsukasa’s troupe, which is much better in Harumichi’s eyes than being a street musician, he kept mumbling about something being off.

And eventually, Toya walks in with a look in his eyes.

“I give up.” He sighs. “You win. You’re right. I was born to be an instrument. There’s nothing I can do about that.”

“What happened to being a part of Tsukasa’s troupe?” Harumichi responds, and Toya sighs.

“Tsukasa-senpai doesn’t need me. He never has. His troupe is so perfectly structured and set up, there’s no room for me. There’s no place for me anywhere but at the piano.”

And true to his word, Toya does begin daily practice again. He does his work, plays the piano, goes to school, and nothing else.

Tsukasa keeps trying to drag him to his troupe, but it doesn’t work. Toya slowly stops accepting his calls, and that’s what starts to make Harumichi’s chest tighten.

He… doesn’t want to speak to Tsukasa.

And finally, he notices the light in Toya’s eyes has vanished.

It’ll be back, he tells himself. It’ll be back and Toya will be himself again. The music will save him.

But Toya’s never quite himself again.

And for the first time since Harumichi was a child too scared to be himself, he doesn’t know what to do.
