FINALLY found an HQ version of this photo, I’ve been searching for ages! All of the Mercury and New Nine astronauts (with instructors) at survival training in Panama, June 1963.

Standing, from left to right: Wally Schirra, Neil Armstrong, Gordo Cooper, Deke Slayton, Tom Stafford, Jim Lovell, John Young, John Glenn (mostly hidden behind Pete), Pete Conrad, Ed White, Gus Grissom, Alan Shepard, Scott Carpenter, Jim McDivitt, Frank Borman, and Elliot See.

I love love love this photo! Must’ve been on the last day of training–everyone looks adequately filthy (except Ed, who, as usual, looks like a model). Even Frank is smiling! And Gus… well, Gus is being his typical mischievous self ;)
