Can you imagine being Jean-Yves Moreau, 15, already a little angry at the world, abandoned by a family that never cared for you anyways, and sent half-way across the world surrounded by a language you don't know. You're bright-eyed (because even if the world is cruel, you're still 15) and there is Kevin Day, the prodigal son of exy. He's older than you (barely a hair shy away from being an adult) and probably taller than you because you still haven't hit your growth spurt yet. And he's so good at exy, the best you've ever seen. He has no reason to be talking to you, no reason to even look at you, but he's asking for you in whispered tones to teach him your mother tongue and he's buying you stupid roadside gas station magnets and he's got green eyes and strong hands and it's hard to believe he's even real. But he is and he's staring at you like he actually cares - because when does Kevin Day ever do anything by halves? And so of course, of course, you promise him you'll stick around even if he never promises you the same.
Jean would absolutely LOSE HIS SHIT

Do you ever think about how Opal loves Adam so much because she’s a part of Ronan’s mind and Ronan loves Adam so much? Because I do.

Neil Josten is a really fucking phenomenal protagonist. Unreliable narrator or not, I really enjoyed his internal monologue. The reason I like his perspective so much is because we can we constantly see his internal conflict. He KNEW his father would find him, he KNEW about the Moriyamas and was terrified and he STILL CHOSE the Foxes and Andrew and Exy over it all. Even when he knew he was about to DIE, he told himself to that it was enough, because it was more than he ever thought he'd have.
I just- god, I love him so much. He's should be considered a national treasure. Anyway, happy birthday to Neil Abram Josten and thank you for coming to my TED talk.
IF THE TWINYARDS WERE TRIPLETS, NEIL WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TELL THE OTHER TWO APART.
