I will be honest guys, the Red portrait of king Charles is gorgeous asdfghjkl
it's a bad portrait. Like. Objectively. It does the opposite of what's intended. It looks like the painter is insulting him. If it was in a contemporary gallery with no context you would see it immediately as the ambivalent criticism of Charles's reign, how he fades into the overwhelming red background as a tiny little figure, small and insignificant, insufficient for the clothes he's wearing. It reminds my of Goya's portraits, how they were so 'realistic' that they ended up making these great figures look pathetic to the viewer. So these are our rulers?
the sheer novelty. the surprise and shock, the kinda cunt it's serving for no reason. I. I love it. It's an incredible portrait by Jonathan Yeo. By the sheer fact that Charles, the man, is impossible to portray as greater than man because he's just such a nothingburger of a dude. So a portrait made to make him look huge and interesting made him be swallowed in red brushstrokes. The butterfly, that reminded me immediately of " we will all laugh at guilded butterflies", draws more attention than him. It looks like an omen. It looks like a warning in all this red. Something is not right here.
This is the best royal portrait ever 10/10

One thing I love about Cemetery Boys is that Julian explains he doesn’t talk in Spanish because that was the language he spoke with his dad and when his dad died, Spanish became to intimate to speak with others. Later, he starts speaking Spanish here and there but only to Yadriel or in reference to Yadriel. As readers we can easily trace when Julian started falling for Yadriel by noticing when he uses Spanish to communicate. (I mean we can track it in other ways because our boy Julian is not into subtlety) From the moment Julian thought he was dying and answered all of Yadriel’s questions in Spanish to “¿Me dejas robarte un beso?” to “Mi querido!”(We will not talk about his desperate cries). It took me more than a minute to understand the significance of Julian suddenly speaking in Spanish, but when I did I had tears in my eyes. This beautiful idiot, how dare he do this to me.
People love the trope of characters speaking in their native languages to their cherished ones and I never really understood what the big deal was until freaking now. I’ve never seen characters in books speak lovingly to each other in Spanish before and I feel robbed. Somehow, I’ve been living too long in a country that regards Spanish as a vulgar language(you must assimilate and that means not speaking your native tongue) and I forgot how beautiful and romantic Spanish can be.
Anyways, I want to see more of this. Two idiots tenderly speaking to each other in Spanish while their loved ones stare at them dumbfounded.

this post is especially dedicated for my fellow neurodivergents, specifically those who have add/adhd.
it’s normal for all of us to feel stressed sometimes. stress, as well as anxiety, are both feelings we all experience from time to time. however, dealing with a lot of stress is proven to have a negative impact on your body, more specifically your (autonomic) nervous system. by understanding how to regulate your nervous system, you will have an easier time managing stressful moments, and overall live a lot more balanced and peaceful life. ⋮ © credits
your nervous system is the control center of your body. it is the part of your body that’s responsible for regulating your breathing, your heartbeat, your blood pressure, your digestion, and also the way you feel. the part of your nervous system that deals with the emotional wellbeing of yours is called "autonomic nervous system".
when feeling stressed, your body naturally reacts in a way to prepare you for the situation. it could respond through an increased heart rate, sweaty palms or the tension of muscles. nevertheless, our bodies cannot constantly withstand stress. continuously experiencing high levels of cortisol and adrenaline can lead to (sometimes serious) health issues.
a nervous system becomes dysregulated when the body cannot properly handle certain situations the way it used to. the body's way of responding to certain situations falls out of sync. it indicates a state of imbalance as you experience your body not being able to keep up with you.
these are some of the signs indicating you might have a dysregulated nervous system:
anxiety
easily irritated
memory problems
difficulty concentrating
headaches
quickly overwhelmed
mood swings
panic attacks
digestive issues
trouble sleeping
constant fatigue
chronic pain
persistent muscle tension
weakened immune system
here is a list of stressors that are known to disrupt your nervous system balance:
chronic stress
burnout
traumatic events
poor sleep habits
unhealthy diet
no time for relaxation
here are things you can do to help regulating your nervous system again:
meditating and resting
listening to music
dancing and moving
stretching and walking
eft tapping
massaging yourself
affirming
practicing mindfulness
reconnecting with nature
hugging someone or yourself
somatic shaking
rubbing ice cubes on face
taking a cold shower
sleeping and waking up early
grounding yourself
humming, singing and laughing
talking to someone
reading or listening
using a weighted blanket
drinking herbal tea
engaging in calming activities
deep breathing exercises
prioritising your sleep
