Roger Taylor, c. 1979
Since Anon asked me I thought it would be good to make a proper post
Freddie studied graphic art and design at Ealing Technical College and School of Art, graduating in 1969.
Brian studied Mathematics and Physics at Imperial College London, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in 1968 with honours. In 2007, he was awarded a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London for work started in 1971 and completed in 2007.
John graduated with a First Class honours degree in Electronic Engineering from Chelsea College - London University in 1972
Roger started studying dentistry at the London Hospital Medical College, but after one year he realised dentistry wasn’t for him, Roger changed to biology (in 1970 when Queen was already formed) and obtained a BSc at North London Polytechnic - London University
That’s me
Me, realizing I fell helplessly in love with the Bohemian Rhapsody cast and I have no way out of it whatsoever: Ah, shit.
more handy Queen anecdotes if you ever think they’re a serious band in any way:
1) roger locking himself in a cupboard to get his song as the b-side of bohemian rhapsody
2) freddie throwing a brick through their managers window because he walked off and left him at a restaurant alone #not glam
3) them all getting stuck in a lift because they started jumping up and down having just heard they got their first number 1 single
4) freddie calling his manager to get him out of michael jackson’s house immediately because michael kept bringing his llama into the recording stupid and it freaked him the fuck out and this is genuinely why freddie wasn’t on thriller
5) john coming up with the under pressure bassline then going out for pizza and forgetting it
6) freddie calling sid vicious simon ferocious
7) the new orleans jazz party which no one can actually remember
Very True Queen fact #23412: many attribute the rich choral parts in Somebody To Love and Bohemian Rhapsody to the band as a whole, but in fact bassist John Deacon is solely responsible. Each time he laughs a group of angels smiles down from the heavens and sings in perfect harmony, and it is this sound for which Queen is known worldwide today.
I FUCXING LOVE THEM
I don’t understand Why Freddie left Jim such a small inheritance compared to Mary.
I’ve said this before but I think it had something to do with discovering that Jim also had AIDS. Freddie must have believed that Jim will last just as long as he did so he gave him just the right amount he believed that Jim would be okay with. Jim wasn’t greedy and materialistic like Mary, and Freddie knew him best. Jim didn’t need an extravagant mansion nor did he need a big ass fortune to know that Freddie loved him and cared about him (£500,000 was equivalent to $1,000,000 at the time so that’s still pretty big). Plus, they had a house built in Ireland and perhaps Freddie assumed that’s where Jim would want to live once he’s gone– to his motherland.
If he had given everything to Jim, then Jim would have been left with the spotlight on him and they both knew he didn’t like that much attention– especially when their relationship wouldn’t have been as widely accepted as it does today. That’s why Freddie used to have Mary by his side during public events instead of Jim because he knew Mary was used to the spotlight (loved it, even). It’s a possibility that Freddie didn’t want to burden Jim since he allegedly told Mary that the inheritance will put a lot of pressure on her. He cared too much about Jim to make him go through that.
It’s also possible that Freddie had hoped that Jim, Joe, Peter, Mary and her kids will live at Garden Lodge like one big happy family (because that’s what they were). He most likely didn’t think Mary would treat them like that. He wouldn’t have left her with that much if he did.
When Jim was asked whether or not he felt betrayed by the small fortune Freddie left him with compared to Mary’s, he said: “No, I feel betrayed by the people he left in charge of carrying out his wishes.”
