Apologies to the Bekarna and Fyonlegc enthusiasts, there is 10 spots
i saw a tweet from a targ anti defending the faith of the seven that was like “targ stans can defend white supremacy, colonialism, and genocide, but they draw the line at religion” like um??? especially given that the faith of the seven is literally based on the fucking CATHOILIC CHURCH??? like come on open a fucking history book
i honestly find using things like white supremacy, genocide and colonialism in order to argue about a fictional fantasy house morally reprehensible, especially when there's nothing in the text to indicate that these things indeed happened or that they were meant to be read as metaphors of such things. because none of the things they claim to be genocide, colonialism or white supremacy make sense once you actually know the definitions below surface level definitions you can find on wikipedia.
targaryens are white supremacists against whom exactly? other white feudal lords in westeros? they are simply a separate ethnic group within a fantasy story that happen to be magical. there's plenty of those in other fantasy stories. and if they are white supremacists against, say, andals, rhoynar or the first men, why did they frequently intermarry with their houses, such as arryn (first men), martell (rhoynar), blackwood (first men), dayne (rhoynar), hightower (andal)? you could argue that making a certain group have magical blood is weirdly eugenistic, but that is the fault of the writer for not thinking it through and broader fantasy trends that designate certain races as superior or inferior.
targaryens committed genocide against whom? genocide isn't just when 'mass murder', it is a specific crime, of which mass murder is only one aspect of. genocide necessarily involves genocidal intent, and that is an intent to destroy in whole or in part a certain group (religious, ethnic, racial etc). that can be achieved through mass murder, but there are other ways: through brutal deportations and displacements (for example deportations of armenians from eastern anatolia), through mentally scarring various groups (through torture, rape etc - for example the rape of bosniak women during bosnian war). another often overlooked aspect is that, in order to destroy a certain group, children are targeted for kidnapping and brainwashing (one of the many fucked up things the nazis did. during the invasion of eastern europe, millions of slavic children who were considered to be 'aryan looking' were kidnapped from their homes, forcibly germanized and given to adoption by german couples. after the war only about estimated 15% of them children returned home. there's a great book about it in polish about it but it wasn't translated into english yet). did targaryens do any of that? no, they fought wars, like every single other house in that world. if we classified what the targaryens did as genocide, then every single state in existence would be guilty of genocide, and the meaning of this word would be completely muddied.
targaryens colonized westeros on behalf of what polity? valyria was long dead by that point. what raw materials did they steal from westeros and channeled to, say, dragonstone? did they employ forced labor in order to do that? did they enforce their valyrian religion onto the people of westeros? no, aegon the conqueror converted to the faith of the seven. did they enforce valyrian customs and culture and law and governance onto the people of westeros? no, valyria was an oligarchy, and aegon crowned himself in the fashion of westerosi kings. aegon accepted their laws, and with each generation, the targaryens were more and more assimilated into westerosi culture and customs. additionally, did they at any point expel the first men and the andals from their castles/homes in order to make way for valyrian settlers?
these arguments don't hold water and they only exist to poison the well. that if you are not clouded by some weird walmart-quality postcolonial reading of the text, you defend genocide, imperialism, colonialism and whatever else. but really, grrm is just a white guy. he didn't write an allegory for any of that and if you insist that he did, then the most basic reading of the text flies over your head.
Modern AU! Lucemond kinda has great divorce potential. Like every time they have a big fight and Aemond storms off to go on a rampage and cool down his rage, once he gets back home, he gets slapped with divorce papers.
This happens like every two years, and the rest of the family just pray that this time it'll stick. It never does because Lucerys realised that it's actually really fun dragging Aemond in front of the court and his entire family. Getting everything and then having an affair with him for a few months before getting remarried.
It's not like Aemond is not getting anything out of it either. He quite enjoys the weeks of make up sex that follow.
Meanwhile, the rest of the family is living in constant fear of lucemond ruining yet another family dinner with their shenanigans.
I feel like after Aemond shot his shot Rhaenyra will finish him for Daemon. So someone definitely will end up a kinslayer tonight.😂
Really brave of Aemond tho. I gotta respect the pure single minded pursuit of his dream threesome while being held at sword point. Sure he'll die for it but at least he tried.
Viserys is laughing at them from the after life for sure!
toxic lucemond my beloved💀
top toxic trait of batman is actually making 100-slide powerpoints for things that could have been an email and sending emails for things that should really said in-person/elaborated on
This is an interesting one. While I do think that LWJ knows his place in sect politics, I do not think that he has what is needed to be a successful politician. JGY was a great politician because he was capable of exercising empathy, patience, and had the cutthroat mentality to let the end justify the means. LWJ is patient but not necessarily with people, and I doubt that he is a great public speaker.
Since he is unlikely to convince the sect leaders of his goal. He needs to first get the people who agree with him anyway in on the project if he wants to move anything. The question is, can he distance himself from his own personal grudges? If he can, which I'm not entirely sure about, he should start with Jin Ling. Someone who may not resent the idea just because of the one who brought it forth. If he can sell it to Jin Ling, he can probably get JWY through Jin Ling since I doubt he would willingly talk to JWY himself.
This obviously only works if JWY already sees the merit in the idea. We don't really get much out of mdzs about his original stance, but if he already thinks positively about it, he would, of course, help Jin Ling achieve his goal LWJ or not.
Lan, Jin, and Jiang together could then just kinda strong arm everyone else without much problem, since they are three powerful sects.
Though, I don't think LWJ has the necessary political savvy to realise this plan and is as a person way to stubborn and self-righteous that it leaves us with the only option of getting WWX to resurrect JGY to deal with the problem himself again ;)
Sorry for the ramble. I just love thinking about politics! Also, this is obviously only my opinion and not to be taken as gospel or anything.
presumably gusu lan's representatives are already in the coalition
things to consider:
who does lan wangji have the highest chances of successfully recruiting? successful recruitment isn't guaranteed.
who, if recruited, would be the most beneficial to the coalition? who, once added, will make adding other members easier? who has the political strength, resources, and/or popular support to make success more likely?
