For those with anxiety.

Iâm here to talk about schizophrenia jokes. They arenât funny, you arenât clever, and we arenât a walking one liner for you to tell. For starters, most schizo jokes are made at the expense of people with dissociative identity disorder (multiple personalities) which is an entirely different thing than schizophrenia or its spectrum, (with its own stigma that I cannot speak to). This is annoying for a myriad of reasons but mostly it goes to show just how little is known about schizophrenia by the lay person and how frustrating it can be to have a disorder no one understands but everyone has an opinion about.
Schizophrenia is a spectrum, similar to the autism spectrum. Many people may have schizophrenia or an associated disorder and be perfectly able to live a normal life independent of assistance of any kind, others require round the clock care, and there are a million versions of âinbetweenâ. Everyone on this spectrum deserves the same amount of respect and kindness as people without schizophrenic disorders. There is literally no reason to assume someone that hears voices canât hear you laughing at them. Or that someone who sees things that may not be there or believe in things they shouldnât doesnât know youâre a huge piece of shit.
Stop talking shit about the homeless people you see that are shouting at no one. Stop making fun of people who live in tin foil lined apartments. Stop assuming you know literally anything about another persons mental health simply because you have witnessed one symptom. Stop thinking that âhearing voicesâ is somehow a joke in and of itself.
Iâm relatively well off, considering Iâm on this spectrum, and many of my friends and family had no idea until I told them that I have this disorder. What does that mean? It means most of the time Iâm telling these people after theyâve unknowingly made an insensitive remark or an offensive joke at my expense. Iâm in a place where telling people about my illness doesnât put me at risk. Iâm lucky in that respect. Most people have negative opinions about schizophrenia â assuming they know what it is when they likely have no idea at all, and assuming those of us on the spectrum are incapable and utterly âcrazyâ. This stigma means that most people on the spectrum arenât going to call you out on your shitty jokes for their own safty, so just stop.
If you canât find a better word to use than schizo, crazy, insane, loopy, psycho etc then you need to beef up your vocab. We arenât a joke. We donât deserve to be the butt of your shitty jokes. Iâm here for my schizophrenics and Iâm determined to see positivity for us on this god forsaken website.

Hypomania Â
Hypomania is a mood episode that mostly people with type II bipolar disorder experience (but people with type I can experience it too) similar to mania. The difference between mania and hypomania is that in hypomania, the individual does not require hospitalization and there are never any psychotic features present. Individuals in a hypomanic episode typically experience: Â
ďˇ Increase in energyÂ
ďˇ Decreased sleepÂ
ďˇ Pressured speechÂ
ďˇ Increase in goal-oriented activityÂ
ďˇ Irritability Â
ďˇ Elevated moodÂ
ďˇ Psychomotor agitationÂ
ďˇ GrandiosityÂ
ďˇ Disinhibition and focus on instant gratification that can result in spending sprees or risky sexual behaviour Â
It is important to note that these changes in mood and behaviour are enough to draw the attention of others, especially family and friends.  It is important that you have a friend or family member that can act as your âlife guardââŚ.someone to tell you when they notice these behaviours, and someone who you trust enough to take their word on it.
Mixed Episode Â
A mood episode that includes features of mania/hypomania and depression simultaneously.
Diagnostic Criteria for the Diagnosis of Bipolar DisorderÂ
Type I: One or more manic episodes. Â A depressive or hypomanic episode is not required for diagnosis, but it frequently occurs.Â
Type II: One or more hypomanic episodes and one or more major depressive episodes. Â Â Â
Cyclothymia: Â History of hypomanic episodes with periods of depression that do not meet criteria for major depressive episodes. Â Low-grade cycling of mood which appears to the observer as a personality trait, and interferes with functioning. Â Â
BD NOS (not otherwise specified): Catchall category. Â Diagnosed when the disorder does not fall within a specific subtype. Â Â
Types of Cycling Â
Rapid cycling: Four + episodes per year.
Ultra rapid cycling: Several distinct episodes within a weekÂ
Ultra radiant cycling: multiple episodes within the same day
Shoutout to the people who:
-have symptoms that arenât visible to others
-are able to function even while in extreme pain
-hide their illness well
-who donât âseem sickâ
-who have flareups at night or other times when no one else sees
-fight a daily battle that others canât see
-feel like theyâre making too big of a deal out of their illness because âit could be worse!â
I see you out there, I feel you, youâre awesome.
I wanted to post this from my other blog and I think itâs important that other people learn what SPD really is so they can notice it and catch it early. Itâs not easy to have this and my everyday life can be hard some days but other days itâs much easier. Please educate yourself and others about SPD so you can help them if they need it.Â
