Okay So Other Than Lucas, None Of Steve’s Friends Care About Sports, And Even For Lucas, It’s More

Okay so other than Lucas, none of Steve’s friends care about sports, and even for Lucas, it’s more about actually playing

But one day one or a few of them figure that maybe it’s about time they do Steve’s thing instead of Their thing

And they watch a game on the TV and they just don’t get it. They try to figure out what the commentators are talking about but suddenly it feels like there is so much context missing, even though Steve’s already explained most of the rules - so they ask Steve

And Steve, well, by this point he’s already absorbed in the game so he isn’t thinking about if they’ll care or be bored or think he’s weird, so he just starts rambling

He starts talking about all of the history and culture and politics of the sport. He talks about how certain teams have this rivalry that originates from political issues that have made the fans of the two teams obsessed with getting one over on the other. He talks about team members trading (and they didn’t even know people could switch teams like that, weren’t they supposed to play for their hometown???). And he talks about the racist dynamics that sometimes manifest and the demonstrations that sometimes take place.

And they realise that maybe they’ve been making a lot of assumptions about something they don’t understand. And also that Steve is a fucking nerd.

Maybe it’s with Robin, and even if she still doesn’t care, they regularly watch sports together just like they regularly watch Robin’s artsy weird films

Maybe it’s with the Dustin, or all the kids, and they don’t really make a habit of it, but they respect his interest and hang out during games sometimes

Maybe it’s Eddie, and while Steve is distractedly rambling about all the information, he’s subtly writing notes, adapting some of this drama to his campaigns, maybe even introducing a gladiatorial fighting competition as a political tool between kingdoms

Maybe it’s Max, and she isn’t nearly as interested as Steve is, but she gets into it, like, yelling at the screen because what was that player thinking and it’s fun to vent her anger into something harmless and boding with Steve

Just… his friends appreciating that sports aren’t one dimensional hobbies for mouthbreathers

*sighs* yes, aegon’s claim is actually very valid. he is not some second distant cousin pretender usurper. he is first born son of a king, in a land, where male primogeniture is an actual legal thing.

“viserys, the king, named rhaenyra an heir. not aegon.” - well, that’s nice and all but did he legally changed the primogeniture? did he made an actual law that woman when elder was to inherit instead of their younger male counterpart? no, he didn’t because that would challenge his own position. that’s the joke. viserys wanted rhaenyra to be the queen, which is totally fair and reasonable, but he was too comfortable to take the kingship from rhaenys.

viserys wasn’t some kind of progressive feminist king - he just had favorite child. and aegon, while ill-fitted to be the king, had a good claim. if viserys wasn’t the blind fool he was, he would realized that but he didn’t. that’s all.

Superman introducing Battinson Bruce to his parents though.

Ma and Pa Kent open the door, ready to meet their boy’s new bf, but it’s only Clark on the porch.

Clark: :D

Ma: Hi, honey. Where is your boy?

And then, peeking around the door frame, is Bruce in a suit and long wool coat, gaunt, squinting against the sun.

Bruce: hi it’s nice to meet you I’m Bruce

Pa: Oh, you didn’t have to get all dressed up to meet us!

Bruce: Mybutlermademe

Ma: Butler? Mercy, Clark, where did you find this one?

Clark disappears into the kitchen to help Ma with dinner, leaving Bruce and Pa sitting in the front room watching a baseball game. Bruce is sitting in an armchair, stiff as a board, anxiety level 100.

Pa: So Clark tells me you do the same sort of thing he does? Swoop around and help folks and such?

Bruce, blurting out the first thing that comes to mind: I can’t fly.

Pa: Wh—Okay?

Bruce: I am a bat but I can’t fly. Not without my Wingsuit.

Pa:…

Bruce, realizing what he just said: never mind

Pa, turning back to the tv: So how about them Yankees?

Ma: And this is our chicken coop. It’s a little musty, but Clark comes by to help tidy up once a week.

Bruce: *observing*

Ma: There’s this got-dang coyote—

Bruce, pointing at the corner: The coyote that’s been eating your chickens is burrowing under there. Reinforce it.

Ma:…I love you.

Pa: So what’s it like in Gotham?

Bruce, hunching over: The city is overrun with crime. Darkness lurks in every corner. We have an average twelve days of sun a year. Recently there has been a noxious cloud of gas hanging over the city center. I perch myself on my tower to observe. I become part of the building. I am a gargoyle.

Pa:…

Pa: Do you like living there?

Bruce, whispering fiercely: iloveit

Clark, flying Bruce back home: My parents love you.

Bruce: okay

Clark: They’re convinced you’re a cryptid that’s latched onto my soul, though.

Women have always worked by the way. Women joining the “work force” and “having careers” and “climbing corporate ladders” only in the last 100 years or so does not erase women’s hard work for thousands of years before. Don’t forget farmer’s wives and dairy maids, housekeepers and schoolma’ams, midwives and healers. Women ran farms while their husbands ran off to Congress or to war. Women who were married did not sit around pregnant all the time. They worked and their work matters just as much as any modern woman’s work matters.

modern asoiaf aus are interesting to me bc seeing how they reckon with cersei and jaime’s whole…. thing….. is like a delightful little window into authorial intent and the story they want to write like. ive seen some people who go full hog with it – jaime and cersei have a long term sexual relationship with incest babies and all – and some people dodge it entirely – their sibling relationship is normal, or they’re not siblings at all. I think its kind of a betrayal of the source material though to pretend NOTHING is wrong there, bc like its so essential to both of their characters that they have a weird thing going on with each other that is actively affecting their lives in a major way. I can understand not wanting to write incest but imo the characters dont make sense without SOMETHING. when i wrote that bit i just posted i was trying to figure out where in the middle i wanted to fall, and i landed on a weird unconsumated too-close-for-comfort sibling relationship, which i think is a good middle ground. saw these tags on a fanfic that were like “no incest bc jaime and cersei’s relationship is fucked up enough without it” which i also think is a graceful way to handle the issue

Maybe it's just me but about bullying in teen media. The bullied kid is really often bullied all the time, their life made a hell for all of high school or middle school. It's probably just my school experience speaking but there should be a character that is bullied sure, but like, inconsistantly. Like you are bullied but there are long periods of time when you aren't bullied or mocked.

In elementary school three seperate people use your head as a leaning support and people call you a drawf but you're all friends and the teacher compliments the class for being so friendly and close. You remember how at 10 an older kid was holding your throat and lifting you up and when you told a teacher, she smiled like "well, oh no". Then people mock your tastes but then one or two other people like your music too so the mocking just stops. Then in middle school some kids take your backpack and hide it, throws snowballs at your head and get people to call you names. And then the names stick so much that your elementary school friend calls you that just in passing, not even thinking about.

And it is bullying, you know that but everything takes place in such a long timeframe that you kinda forget it happening. Then at like 16 it all stops and people act like respecting people is the norm and no one is bullied at your school after that. So when people talk about bullying or shit, you say you weren't bullied because now it feels like kids just being assholes. And there definitely were people getting bullied much worse than you so it feels like you can't say anything. Then two hours after you get a flashback to middle school where boys would hold every other girls' hand when learning ballroom dancing except yours because you were the gross one idk.

Probably real fucking specific or something but like a story about bullying where the bullying is different from just dumb jock pushing you against a locker or mean girls isolating you through psychological warfare that teachers just cannot see.
