Steven Yeun as Ben in Burning – 버닝 (2018)
only-we:
Riverbed. Fine.
He just had to get through this for another hour or two, then they would be back on base and they could all fuck off. Looking first through his binoculars and then scouting a few spots more closely, Jacob was immersed in his work. Though he felt Merwin coming up to him and there were a few moments where Jacob bristled at that – but before he could bark a few insults at the older soldier, Kolchek had actually paid enough mind to get Merwin away.
Jacob wouldn’t thank him for that, not even look at him, but he was grateful for that bit of decency.
“Three shepherds and their flock at the east side of the riverbed. Maybe 300 meters east from our route. Abandoned truck at the westside. No humans there, but fairly close to the riverbed. About a klick from here.”
He passed the intel onto Kolchek while still watching the surroundings through his rifle, checking and re-checking. But all seemed calm else. Jacob hoped it would fucking stay like this.
His only light was Miller – blinking up to his friend, Jacob grabbed his hand to get up again and he immediately threw him a half-annoyed-half-amused look.
“If he really makes me clean the outhouses tomorrow, I’ll fuck him up. I was right. Fucker should be kissing my boots.”, Jacob whispered under his breath to Miller, raising his eyebrows. Little jumped up First Lieutenant would see where that attitude got him. As if he was running the fucking marines.
The ‘nurses station’ earned miller another look – but Jacob’s eyes narrowed more at that.
“What do you mean?”, he asked with a suspicious glint, before shaking his head as they followed down the slope towards the riverbed.
“I’m doin fuckin’ fine, if it wasn’t for headaches surrounding me… don’t dare become one, too.”
Though that would hardly happen. Miller had been his comrade and close friend for years now. A beacon of hope in this squad, really…
The dry land cracked beneath their boots and it seemed laughable to imagine the water that must run here during heavy rainfalls… or in the past. Who knew. Now there wasn’t even enough to properly nurture the brownish sad grass at the edges.
Keeping his eyes up, Jacob really didn’t like the riverbed-option. To be this low in the land felt like being a bunch of sheep circled by invisible eagles and vultures. Though there had been something hidden by the mountains cutting through their route. And now it was just turning the cliffsides – a sudden warm wind picking up. And where formerly had been a cloudy foggy pale sky, there now were thick foggy clouds rolling in. Not those they knew from a storm back home. No, these were a golden brown color, like honey, but in no way sweet. Neither were they as slow as the clouds of a regular storm – a sandstorm came suddenly, and it had no mercy at all.
Miller returned that colourful expression with a wider smile. He had been fast friends with Jacob since they were both sprouts, eventually he was assigned as his spotter and that was the end of that. They had been inseparable since. There hadn’t been a single deployment without them being in each other’s orbit and he discovered he had never been running from quite as much trouble before then.
Honestly, he wouldn’t change that for the world. The man at his side had helped him keep the pieces together whenever part of him felt fractured in the line of service.
“He’s in charge. You have to remember that. If not the outhouses, you have to consider what other punishment is worse.” Miller whispered back, ever the voice of reason. Whether Jacob chose to follow his gentle advice was a wild card. That fire in his eyes burned too brightly to ever be dimmed.
That smile fell crooked in his amusement at his friend’s scrutiny.
“What do I mean? Jacob, you must be the only marine who hasn’t pulled it yet. One of the nice nurses will take you to an air-conditioned room and fuss over you. If you get a mean nurse you walk out with a little ice-treat.” he explained in that same hushed tone. Last thing they needed was for someone like Merwin to catch wind and decide he was trying it out.
Miller didn’t bother to subdue a quiet laugh. He even lifted a hand in mock-surrender and took a step away as though that would calm his friend.
“Fuck!” Kolchek swore, breaking through any of the banter with that sudden reaction. “Mask up and form a chain!” It was the simplest instructions that he could give in that moment of ‘oh shit’. Others in the squad spotted the problem, one that was approaching fast. “No way we’re making a klick before that storm fucks us up! We make a line for that abandoned truck for cover. Keep your hand on the shoulder of the person in front and fucking keep communicating! No one left behind, alright?!”
Despite the sudden charged energy, everyone fell into position easily. The squad had it’s challenges, sure, but at the end of the day they were a well-polished team and each of them had trained for situations like this. For most it was the first time out of a simulation... Jason included. He called the best shots that he could in the window of time they had left before the sand blanketed over them and swallowed them whole.

"I can't stop." — Millie
Can't stop. Well. That was... unfortunate. But Loqi knew why she felt like that. To not give up, that utter need to prove oneself. Even if no one believed in you and even if it sounded fucking insane. Because that was exactly what I sounded like when she laid out the research she had done these past weeks.
A cult in a backwater county. Old family of Jacob – her pseudo brother and unfortunately his brother-in-law. What a tangled up mess. It sounded like a cheap soap-opera. But that was their life now.
Glancing over the notes and papers and photographs she had collected so far, Loqi shrugged his shoulders slightly. This was a weird situation. But also... a little exciting.
“Well, I think that would make a damn great story as your first big publish.”

… and I’ll respond with 3 (or more) interesting plots / relationships / connections I can think of for our muses! There is no pressure for us to write any of them, but it’s a great starting point for you to get a sense of how I think our muses might interact and what sorts of plots I’m most interested in happening between them - so don’t be shy!
for multimuse blogs make sure to specify who you’re looking to plot with
Please like, reblog or follow if you’re interested with interacting with a powerful original character toned down accordingly for your fandoms and worlds. Modern fantasy, nephilim (half-angel, half-demon), twin character (younger brother @stratagemichor) and while she isn’t chronologically locked her default age is 16. The character is solid but the few AUs outside of her original are skeleton ideas. Happy and willing to create and tinker with new AUs as needed to roleplay inside your fandom.

Give it their voice?
Now it was time for Loqi to scrunch his nose up a little. Finally. He had been so agreeable so far. And why wouldn’t he? That all sounded like some giant shit-show and it grated Jacob’s gears. A win-win. But now that she used these words…
“Excuse me, but that sounds as if you want to go there…”
The little questionmark at the end of that statement was implied, but quite visible in his eyes. She aspired to be a journalist and yeah, research and being present was a big part of that. But… Loqi couldn’t help having his doubts there.
“How do you want to get there? It’s a cult. Your notes state them as not the… friendliest to outsiders. And there even are some reports about people going missing you included. If that really has connections to these nutjobs, that might be a little… more than exciting. Did you inform your pseudo-brother about that?”
Millie could only answer with a non-committal “ne” in Korean. Loqi hadn’t learned the language, he wasn’t studying either so the sound was entirely out of place for the situation. In truth she had said yes to his question but he wouldn’t understand it from her lips, rather the way she looked at him, confirming his worst doubts.
She wanted to go there herself. She wanted to travel through Montana to Hope County and talk to the people trapped by the Project at Eden’s Gate.
“I’d drive a company car with others there with me, of course. There’s a deep interest back at the head office for the potential of this story. We’d be the first to break it,” she started to explain. “The only thing we dug up on Joseph Seed was back in Rome, Georgia about a man going missing under mysterious circumstances and the police report suggests it was linked to his preaching. He and John since moved and they’ve managed to keep under the radar.”
There was a long pause then. “I haven’t told Jacob. You can’t go to him with this either!” Millie insisted. “This is something that the world can’t keep ignoring and if Jacob found out about me investigating he’d go berserk.”
She considered him a moment longer. “I know you like to see him riled up, but he could kill the story. I can trust you’re not going to run to him with this?”
