Mystery of mysteries

Life is so...
Life can best be seen as a river flowing through time.
Haploid diploid haploid diploid.
Entropic eddies swirled by stars.
And we're a piece of it.
Mystery of mysteries.
Don't even ask.
Mitosis - when the nuclear membrane reformed I about cheered.

Did you know that the ovum that went on to become you was quietly resting in your mother's overy when your mother was a fetus inside your grandmothers womb?

If I could only show you my dreams. Listen to me, I dream in deep blue. Deep deep blue.
Visceral, almost violet blue.
And reds.

Leonard Cohen - Mastersong
We have two calamansi trees growing on our balcony. This morning as I write they are covered with fragrant white blossoms. The smell of the citrus perfume takes me back to Southern California and my own springtime.
Age has given me some peace and for that I am grateful. But youth gave me crazy love and for that I sometimes long.

The Band - The Weight

I was fortunate enough to see The Band's farewell concert at the Hollywood Bowl in 1976. My friend's mother was a reporter for the LA Times and she had guest tickets but she couldn't go so she gave the tickets to us. It turned out the tickets were for the VIP section! What a great show. There we were, three crazy young hippies, high on peyote, sitting in front row center seats, along side a bevy of Hollywood dignitaries, digging The Band and all their guest artists.
Fond memory.
What a trip.
E ticket.

Nature & Humanity

In the Philippines, the real law of the land is the law of nature. With no safty net.
In the Philippines, everywhere women are suckling babies. The streets are filled with children laughing and dancing in play. But there are no old people.
Smiles and machetes.
I exist here as if in a dream. As if in a bubble. Looking out but never touching.

1997 was a pivotal year for me.
1997 was the year I handed my resignation letter to my asshole boss.
When I handed it to him you want to know what he did?
He quietly read my letter then he looked up and became furious and screamed,
"Well, in that case YOU'RE FIRED!!!"
I kid you not.
In my life there was a before and there has been an after to that moment.

Akae Beka - The Earth is the Lord
The island we live on has so many waterfalls. This one is near our home. The cold mountain water is a delight to bath in.
I like to stand under the raging falls and scream.
In the evenings we eat Filipino foods. Chicken cooked in coconut milk. Locally grown rice. Fresh fruits.
We have internet connection otherwise it would be easy to forget there is an outside world. I read all the news and I thank God I'm here.
Am I hiding?
You know it.
These are some watercolor paintings I made a few years ago. I was deep into ancient megaliths at the time. And blue.

De Kooning once said, "In order for art to work the finished piece needs to at least look better than the original blank canvas."
I think de Kooning said that.
Maybe I imagined it.
In that case I said it.
I don't know.
