We have two calamansi trees growing on our balcony. This morning as I write they are covered with fragrant white blossoms. The smell of the citrus perfume takes me back to Southern California and my own springtime.
Age has given me some peace and for that I am grateful. But youth gave me crazy love and for that I sometimes long.

In 2010 I moved from Miami Florida to Los Angeles California. It was a great trip. I packed all my stuff in my Honda and took two months off to drive across the country.
I wound up spending most of my time camping out in the mountains of New Mexico. I was traveling by mysef and let me tell you, sleeping alone in the pitch black darkness of the New Mexican wilderness was creepy..
I remember one day I decided to go for a hike. I walked up a mountain trail following a small creek into the wilderness. After I had wandered for a few miles I found, growing by the water, a wild cherry tree covered with cherries. The cherries were ripe and almost black and so sweet.
So I sat down by the creek and made a lunch of wild cherries and cool mountain stream water. In the middle of the wilderness. No one there except for me and God.

During my trip I drew in my moleskine a lot. It was during that trip that I hit upon drawing with red and black sharpies. The above drawing is from my moleskine. I was feeling deep into the colors and imagery of the American Southwest.

I've returned to this motif several times since then. Here is one I did around 2016.

My art, really, arose from my doodlings during class as a boy. I mean seriously, what else are you supposed to do during those lectures. And you have a pen in your hand..
Later I doodled at work. Same game, different decade.
So here are some doodles I made at work. They were all drawn with whatever pen I was using that day on whatever paper I had in front of me.
I might have more lying around. I'll look in the closets..

I had to fall to lose it all

Ok, its done. I added one more layer of lavender just because lavender is lovely.
Even Sean, my nine year old son, and harshest critic, likes it. So.. it's done.

I love finding old drawings. These are a couple of drawings I did almost fifty years ago. I remember drawing them quite clearly. I was living at the time with some friends in an old house in Venice Beach, California. I drew these one day sittling at the kitchen table.
I just took these photos today. The newsprint is about ready to fall apart but the drawings themselves look fresh. I'm amazed that we're all still intact.

Ain't it just like the night to play tricks when you're tryin' to be so quiet.
We're sitting here stranded though we're all doing our best to deny it.

My wife is fixing a big Thanksgiving feast. I can smell the food cooking downstairs.
We live in a small port city and my wife went down to the docks early this morning and picked up an amazing assortment of fresh sea food. Crabs, scallops, muscles, octopus, milk fish, shrimp, along with assorted fresh vegetables. This is going to be a feast.
I was admiring the bounty of sea food with my eight year old son, Sean.
"Daddy?" Sean asked me out of the blue, "Have you ever noticed that 'SHELLFISH' sounds a lot like 'SELFISH'?"
I love it when he says things like that.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone 💓
