For us here in Chicago spring has finally arrived. I know it's almost May but here it seems like we have been cut back to only two seasons, winter and summer with maybe two weeks of fall and spring (if we're lucky). So with hopefully just three or four more days of 30 degree weather left, it's time to break out the camping gear!
Me (Jake) and my girlfriend Allison live in a one bedroom apartment in the city with our cat Turd Ferguson (Turdie for short). Even though there's a park across the street it doesn't fulfill the desire we get to be outside. This is a blog for us to share our outdoor experiences and love of nature. Enjoy!
Forgot to put my rope in the shot but still like the way this came out anyway :)
First official cover for the graphic novel I've been working on with my brother. Hoping to get picked up this spring for publication. Follow us on Facebook @nomadgn
Had to clean the apartment before I found the cord to hook my camera up to my computer but finally have the chance to put up pictures from our fall trip to Door County WI.
Even though it rained for two days straight, still had a blast as always :)
Caught a baby mouse in the apartment today. It was the cutest little thing and I partially wanted to keep it as a pet. Then I remembered that a baby mouse means a mommy and daddy which means more baby mice.
That cuteness quickly faded as I released it into our side yard.
Recently Allison and I watched the classic film Stand By Me. I don't want to ruin the plot for anyone who hasn't seen the movie but at a certain point the narrator says how he and the other boys felt better than they ever had before because "right then we knew exactly who we were and where we were going". Surprisingly it was at this point that I had a small epiphany.
I realized I had never felt this way before.
Never have I had something that consumed my whole life in that way. A goal that made me feel like I knew exactly what I had to do and why I had to do it. It made me a bit depressed but also made me realize that I was missing that one thing in my life.
The biggest question I need to ask myself now is what that one thing might be.
Warrior dash 2013, our second year in a row and it sure wont be our last.
It's been waaaay too long since I've done any rock climbing at all. I really want to go soon but am kinda afraid that my forearms have turned into pudding...... damn it now I want pudding.

Everyone talks about how Millennials already have picked up grandparent hobbies. We knit, garden, whittle, and bake bread. I think this is because we’ve already been through so much in such a short time. We’re exhausted. All we want to do is wrap ourselves in a sweater, sit in the garden, and watch our plants grow.
I live for the outdoors but pound the city pavement. My wife and I wish our cat and dog would get along.
