I won't stop saying it: in fanfic-writing, you make your own rules. Write whatever the fuck you want to write

Sometimes it's that you haven't written that fanfic of that genre yet because you don't have confidence in your writing talents, or you have some learning and improving to do in your writing, or you're afraid of the audience reception.

Sometimes it's also just that the said genre is not for you. Write what you're confident in and what makes you happy. It's okay to leave the rest alone.

Unless you're receiving payment to diversify and to be more creative and to "impress", you have every right to stick to your comfort zone.

Write the same fanfic five times with five different endings. Write one genre of fanfics. Write all genres ever known to man. Write for 75 fandoms. Write for one fandom. Update once a year. Update every hour. Write only 200-chaptered stories. Write only drabbles. Write the tamest stuff. Write the kinkiest stuff(tags exist for a reason). Write different love stories for one character you love. Use the same lines or words.

Do anything and everything as long as you're happy and having fun. If there are too many negative emotions(fear, self-doubt, mental stress, worry, anxiety, overthinking, etc.) attached to your writing, then you're probably taking it too seriously.

Nobody has the right to shake your fanfic-writing peace and make you doubt how great of a writer you are, not even YOURSELF or YOUR READERS. This shit is free and meant to be for fun and relaxation.

Reading my own fanfiction is basically just a rollercoaster of emotional whiplash.

20% of the time: “Hold on. I wrote this? This is fire. This is emotionally devastating in the best way. This scene is dripping with tension. I’m a literary perfectionist. Someone give me a book deal.”

80% of the time: “Straight to jail. Immediate prison. Why is everyone’s breath hitching?. I used the word ‘gaze’ three times in one paragraph like I was possessed. Did I think 'his eyes darkened' was profound? Why is everyone clenching their jaws? Why is someone whispering 'their name like a prayer' again?? No one talks like this. What is this dialogue. Why are there so many weird metaphors and em-dashes…”

A proposal

Sometimes, in fandom, we just want to write id-tastic fic that rolls around in tropes that might be viewed as problematic. But we don’t want to address the problematic side of things in this particular fanwork; we just want to roll around and wallow.

It is considered courteous to give readers a heads-up via use of AO3 tags. I propose a tag that signals that a given fanwork is for rolling around, not giving a measured evaluation of anything. The MCU has carved out a space for this sort of fic with the “HYDRA Trash Party” tag, for which I commend them. Trash Party is a bit too specific to cover all of the ground I’m thinking of here, though; I propose “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.”

For those of you not familiar with Arrested Development, Michael Bluth finds a paper bag in the freezer labeled “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.” He opens the bag, finds a dead dove, and reacts as follows:

The “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” tag would essentially be a “what it says on the tin” metatag, indicating “you see the tropes and concepts tagged here? they are going to appear in this fic. exactly as said. there will not necessarily be any subversion, authorial commentary condemning problematic aspects, or meditation on potential harm. this fic contains dead dove. if you proceed, you should expect to encounter it.”

Loving a not so written for driver is so annoying like, what the fuck do you mean I’m the only one who’s written for Michael Schumacher?!

Not only that, but when I searched for ‘Michael Schumacher smut’, not one, but two of my blogs came up.

A Brocedes timeline in the year 2021....

Yeah probably to nobody‘s interest besides my own....

1997/98 the year it all started, both Baby Lewis and baby Nico were racing in Italian karting. Nico being the Golden boy at the time because of his dad being an F1 world champion.

1999 both were still racing in Italy, battling against each. When Nico‘s dad decided to talk to one of his friends to create an own karting team for his son.... and Lewis.

2000 now teammates, they were racing in one team against each other and became best friends.

2001 they were teammates for one more season ( and with that come more stories about them sharing hotel rooms, wrestling each other and going on holidays)

2002 their ways separated and Lewis went on to race in the UK again.

2003 they were doing different competitions over the season. But at the end of the season both of them reunited at the Macao GP.

2004 they both raced in the Formula 3 Euro Series... in different teams but still and they even shared one podium together:

They also both did the Bahrain Superprix and the Macao GP again. ( in which nico accidentally ruined both of their races)

2007 Lewis followed Nico to F1.

2008 Nico got his first podium in F1 and well he shared the stage with Lewis. Like they did so often as kids.

Also Lewis won his first world title🎉

2010: they were still friends and even went karting before the start of the season together with their old karting team boss.Also Nico moved to the new Mercedes team to race alongside Michael Schumacher.

2012 Nico got his first race win in F1 and shared the podium once again with Lewis.

2013 the Season they reunited as teammates 13 years after the last time. And at first both of them seemed really excited to be reunited once again and spend more time together.

2014 the year the suffering started. And it started off so peacefully as there were some nice moments between them at the start of the season. But then the dynamic changed and their championship battle began. And let‘s be honest we all don’t really know what really happened ( even Toto said something along those lines that he himself does not know the full story what happened between them and why it went that bad)

2015 no friendship here anymore only pain and suffering and a lot of hate. And for the second year in a row Lewis came out on top and won the world championship.

2016 pain and suffering continued and the famous Spanish GP crash happened when they took each other out and with that ruined the whole teams race.

At the end of the year it was Nico who came out on top even though Lewis tried his all to stop it from happening. And after it all Nico announced he was going to retire from the sport.

2017 the First Season in F1 for Lewis without Nico, but like not really because Nico decided that his new job was to be talking about Lewis. With lewis trying his best to ignore him.

2019 Lewis actually acknowledged Nico again but yeah it is not in a good way😂 he decided to share an insta story having a laugh about max verstappen comparing Nico to Villeneuve... so yeah😂

2020 a weird year and it was even weirder because we had an interaction... a socially distanced one but still an interaction.

2021 suprised us all when Netflix surprisingly came through with Brocedes content and brought us this gem:

HEY so i have deep dived into brocedes (going on... 3 days now?) and the one thing im rly struggling to find is an accurate brocedes timeline with links to everything (and i mean EVERYTHING- their promo vids, them eating cereal tgt, lewis on nicos website at 18 etc). i've scrolled through ur acc (its been so helpful!!) but some of the links no longer work i can't pinpoint on certain dates (greek trip?? what year was that?? when did they race each other in italy?) so i js thought id ask if you could help me figure that out lol also i am happy to read any in depth essays of brocedes and their progression as childhood bsfs, to teammates, to rivals, to strangers, that you have on the backburner bc i genuinely am a fan of all things brocedes atp (this is me shamelessly asking for a master post like the one u did w the post 2016 timeline- yes im happy to wait esp since there are sm new things to comment on (SPAIN 2023??? Lewis was born on a council estate in Stevenage and his dad had to work multiple jobs for him to start karting

Honestly I think the difference in their backgrounds is one of the things that pushed them together, they were both isolated from the rest of the kids, but I’m keeping this purely facts rather than speculation.
