like i know we all have issues with Celine and for all the things she's done I don't think she choked up when raising Rumi as much as we'd think. If she was she'd still be super overbearing about the things Rumi does and how she deals with issues as a hunter.
I have no doubt she caught onto the Saja boys but she let the girls take care of it. She let them handle it in their own way because the mantle's passed down.
Rumi's a great leader and you can see she's been trained well. I don't think Celine was half as cruel as we might assume, sure she passed on a shit ton of issues but isn't that every girl and her mother?
What are girls if not the image their mother made them in? Celine whether Rumi likes it or not is all she has as a mother and I would like to believe that she does love Rumi. Because she reiterates it very pointedly when Rumi confronts her.
She just doesn't like the demon part, which valid. Celine was trained to believe very specific things, she was tasked with being the best and she had the weight of the world on her shoulders. Rumi is a walking contradiction she probably had no idea how to deal with especially when she was still recovering from the trauma of loosing Miyeong and her other member.
I think Celine does hold a great deal of affection for Rumi. That she wants the best for her and wants to see her happy, she just doesn't know how that might be possible when if people found out Rumi's secret they might just call a witch hunt for her.
That's more than enough reason for her to be anxious for Rumi. Above all that Celine probably is also worried beyond comprehension about Gwi-ma taking ahold of Rumi's soul.
Rumi goes against everything she believes in but she's also a literally child so yeah Celine might have had a very complex take and mixed feelings on raising her. God forbid a woman be a less than perfect mother or maternal figure.
We like excusing men for doing a lot worse so why does Celine get worse treatment that Gwi-ma sometimes. Let the damn woman be flawed and complex.
Like I'm a mama's girl so yeah I might be biased but I do think Celine and Rumi aren't as bad as we assume. That their bond is one that's complex and nuanced to be sure but not one that's lacking in love and mutual care and respect.
Misty is not that much of a psycho, like how do people have zero sympathy for her? Ben LITERALLY admits that she was bullied, that it would have been worse if she was part of the team.
Misty literally only wants to be liked and accepted, things everyone wants. It got to a point where she was so deprived that she fucked up her chance of survival just so she could relish in that feeling, yeah it was bad but did you think about why she did it???
She just wants friends and has to trick people into spending time with her, that is tragic. The reason she's so icky with Walter is because she has a complicated notion of belonging, her whole life Misty has been the one seeking people out and it bugs her when the inverse happens. Nee, how she reacted to Crystal talking to her first.
Speaking from experience that's how socially ostracized people react when someone, without prompting, interacts with them. They wonder who the hell is this weirdo because how bad do they have to be to seek out someone who doesn't fit in and go all in with them.
I was so on board with Misty standing up for herself because yeah, it's about damn time she stopped being a doormat and did her own thing. Two seasons we've seen her do insane ride or die shit and loose the one person who was kind to her, who hung out with her and warmed upto her.
Misty haters don't get that Misty is someone who's gone her entire life thinking no one loved her and that does shit to people's brains. ALSO Misty is cool, she doesn't violently give into her impulses as an adult.
She had one violent fantasy and immediately backtracked and took a mental health day to deal with it. She didn't like Lottie sure but in Natalie's spirit she takes her death seriously. That's what Walter doesn't get about her, Misty takes things very seriously, she's not just doing them for the challenge. It's because she wants to be accepted and since she is not she uses more unsavory methods to get at least one foot in the door.
Misty also reflects and admits her infatuation with Coach was just that. She genuinely cares about him. Samantha acted her heart out in that scene with Ben and it moved me, that's the essence of Misty right there. She's someone who cares deeply even though she comes off as insane and she will do everything in her power to help the people she cares about.
Misty isn't an insane psychopath, she's just someone with a very flawed understanding of social customs and boundaries. She has empathy, she has the ability to care, it's just... as forked as the rest of the Yellowjackets. So no, she's not a deranged psycho your honor, literally she is just a deeply flawed teenage girl/person.
I don't get how people don't even have an ounce of sympathy for her because Misty was also just a teenage girl.
i think both Rumi and Mira are touch starved. I'm sure Mira grew up in a household where touch was extremely rare and she only got it when they were posing or on some very rare occasion whereas Rumi probably got it as a reward when Celine was proud of her and feeling upto touching demon kiddo.
Probably why Zoey is the one reaching out to both of them most of the time. Also explains why Rumi breaks when Zoey denies her after demontrix expose her patterns. Zoey's kind of like the physical bridge between them because Rumi and Mira don't know how to reach out and ask for it and at the same time don't know how to properly initiate any sort of contact.
i choose to believe that the bi flag colour scheme is a conscious choice. they were picking which colour to dye their hair one day and Rumi was just standing there with her lavender hair waiting for them to choose at the hair salon and they had a "are you thinking what I'm thinking moment"
collectively unspoken agreement that since Rumi is their center they can always look like a walking bi flag.
Maybe Zoey didn't want to dye her hair a crazy colour for some reason (like wanting to preserve her hair, it's so shiny I don't blame her and her being the youngest so maybe when they were deciding the colours Zoey was still a minor who needed to finish school) so it just worked more in their favour
Maybe Rumi hasn't realised it yet but Mira and Zoey have orchestrated this as a way to show the word they're fruity af and iconic
it pisses me off because they went almost nowhere with the man with no eyes, who has been an allegory for childhood horrors and what's another horror Tai has as a child? Religious trauma.
There was so much more that could have been explored with her, Akilah,Mari and Lottie but we don't get any of that and it makes me angry.
i sstarted to get more invested in the show because of Tai's adult storyline in season 1 and nothing much happened there. We're not given many explanations or a satisfying conclusion.
And even the whole Melissa fake death seems like a copout to me, it would have worked better with even Travis but nope. He dies and no one really mentions him again save for in a minor explanation scene.
Travis is such an interesting character who went through some of the most horrible things. Like having to eat his brother, not being able to help his dad because he's already dead and be assaulted by the people he lives with. I mean we're getting so much of Jeff so it's not a stretch to ask for the actual dude who was out there with them, someone who wasn't quite part of the group and could add more to the narrative.
It's hard to watch this episode thinking how really yellowjackets writers love to kill women of colour then make another white character more important in the show. They really did it, it is really Melissa and if the show continues Hilary will take a bigger part of it. They really did it.
And fandom mostly doesn't want to discuss show's problem with racism, yeah.
WHAT THE FUCK LOTTIE??????????????? I'M LITERALLY SHAKING, MY WIFE IS DEAD?????? WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK. I NEED TO - I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL.
I've seen quite a bit of discourse over the girls' sexualities and my two cents for Rumi? She's on the ace spectrum if y'all want my two cents.
Rumi doesn't show half as much interest in boys as Mira and Zoey. The only person she has some kind of response to in the male side of things is Jinu and even then there's no proper mention of her being solely interested in his looks. What she's into is the archetype of the male lead. Him appearing from behind his friends looking fresh. Him helping her when she's in trouble.
Rumi doesn't want Jinu because he's a dude she likes him because he helps her, because he's someone who understands her. She literally does a whole song about how she feels that they can help each other be better.
That's what Rumi is into. Emotional connection. Whatever bit she is attracted to his looks doesn't discredit her being very ace-spec coded. Polytrix doesn't discredit that either. Because the girls have such a deep connection with each other.
Rumi's basic need is to be loved, she hardly cares whether it's Jinu or Celine or the girls. She wants all of them to love and accept her. Yeah I clocked how after Jinu pushed her away she immediately went to Celine.
It was because her first choice, the girls, the family she found for herself didn't accept her. That was what part of all of this was about wasn't it? Fixing herself so the girls wouldn't hate her, so they could be the perfect trio together.
Jinu and Rumi sweet as it is isn't my otp for a lot of reasons. But one of the main things is that Jinu was the product of Rumi concealing herself, she only went to him because she had no one else to relate to or felt like that. The girls themselves would have understood, the reason they uphold such strong believes is in huge part thanks to what Rumi preaches. I'm sure if they were given the opportunity to just venture out and understand demons they would have understood Gwi-ma's bs.
Anyways my point it Jinu spent majority of the movie manipulating her and lying to her and I would rather see that man actually do something with himself other than bring down a baddie polycule. (Not Jinu hate he's funny af but I just like my girls better)
Rumi's allowed to just be queer too, just because she likes certain people doesn't mean she immediately needs to be boxed in. She can have liked Jinu and then be into girls romantically, it's all possible.
The funniest thing about Rhaenyra marrying Daemon when the rumours surrounding her are taken into account is that she pulled both of her crushes, the other one being her rumoured lover Laena aka Daemon's ex-wife.
He's so cunty, laughing at Joffrey's sword's name, commenting that Arya is the size of a wet rat and having to be escorted out. No wonder Cersei hates him, he seems so deliciously annoying.
real.
john does something controversial that gets the new avengers bad press (naturally) and the very next day bob steps out in public wearing a “i stand by my canceled wife” t-shirt.
Y'all my granny is so weird. She basically declared to the family that trans rights are valid and no one has the right to deny them the rights everyone else has multiple times, very loudly. 20 minutes later she told me if I don't get my shit together I'll never find a husband and everyone will hate me, thus I shouldn't wear shorts and learn better posture.
The duality of this woman never fails to surprise me. My actual reaction, shown below.
The end justifies the means, but what if there never is an end? All we have is means.
